How can we check for coolant leakage? On my Getz, when I checked it last, the level was below the marked minimum level.
Got it updated during the last service. Not very sure if its normal or if it was a leak.

Your car looks very well maintained. Agree with you on the power steering, I realize how good the feedback is when I drive the new generation cars.

A very short ownership review of your car would be great, especially any issue you faced until now.

My mom's Getz has run only 55k kms and seen less than 1000 km of highways. (We have an Innova too)

I don't think I have enough experience writing a report cause I've been driving it for only the last 3 years and it goes for service once a year.

The only major work done is heater-core and cross member replacement (both in 2014) as it was rusted. The driver door internal handle had worn out and was also replaced in 2014.

Also, our rear seats don't fold down since 2009. We've never bothered repairing it.

The FE is a consistent 9.5 kmpl in city.

Yours is the prime version right?

Wish you many more mile munching PatienceWins with Getz, arguably, one of the best all rounded hatches of all times

I can really understand what your 'Upgrade Itch' feels like buddy. And, I can also really comprehend the pain to let go of such a lovely car, which I did after many a sleep deprived nights.
It took me so long to decide on the GT that there were only 3 cars left with VW and White shade was not even an option

But in 2 years, competition has really picked up and there are many options available which can offer equal (if not better) VFM.

All the best with your decision and your prospective upgrade.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

Well I'm finally here.. the only reason why I'd joined Team-BHP in the first place, to chronicle my happy ownership of this very special car. Since everyone is reminiscing I shall as well, when I was a student who'd started graduation we didn't have any car as there was not much use for it.. the 800 was sold about a couple of years back, then. As I learnt to drive in the Santro, I wanted the same car as we set out to buy one and there it stood - a second-hand (almost new 3000 km run) Xing XG which we acquired at a bargain and it gave almost 3.5 years of zero-niggle ownership, whilst allowing me to learn the tricks of driving. However after that I'd got a little bored of the car, it was the only car I'd driven but I knew something was missing.. something was not quite there and chief among those was the 1.1 engine which was very responsive and moved off the blocks instantly.. but only until about 30 odd kmph.. after that there had to be substantial effort to work the revs and match gears, also the noise isolation while leagues above the 800, wasn't good enough for my sensitive ears.

Enter the brand new Getz Prime which also was acquired for a song (heavy discounts+added features) and combine that with a value of exactly 80% we got back from the Santro sale and things worked out great. This machine was something else and I knew it instantly.. pin-drop silent engine, best in segment noise isolation for its time and power that almost read your feet input and delivered seamlessly and quickly.. the ideal city car and I'd found it. Almost 9 years on and the car still feels the same, sounds the same and according to the local car-washer who does all the cars in the community, feels like a rock to touch (he has a habit of working the elbow to clean nicely so he knows it all too well), I will not list the other brands he referred to in comparison but yeah I guess all us owners know that he isn't lying, is he?

Its easy to rubbish off a brand just because of its country of origin but inside I know all too well that Hyundai is more than that. I agree that they've diluted ever so slightly these days but I hope that they realise their folly soon and get back to making cars people can fall in love with again.

Had to drive to Mysore for official reasons recently (just before the troubles hit the city), all I can say is oh-my-god.. the car performed flawlessly. This was my first out of city drive, ever and the longest I'd done in a day. The car felt effortless.. keep a light tap on the accelerator pedal and keep the revs in tune and all I'd to do was push slightly and the car responded with a deep whine and pushed the pace incredibly well. I always kept it to moderate, controllable speeds though.. just wanted a safe, leisurely drive.

Glad I did it.. almost felt like taking the Shatabdi but this was a revelation. An experience one has to take with this car.

I'm having the itch too, but one thing has to be said.. as a package nothing can come to the levels of Getz, space, ease of driving, visibility, reliability and superb ownership experience.

My dilemma continues but maybe by this year I too shall have something "new". Its funny.. so much has changed from the time we barely had a budget to get a car, yet this one thing has been constant all through. Happy that you found your ideal replacement.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

So true about the Getz that it is indeed a gem of a car. Ours is 9.5 years old. Even today, it has rock steady steering, one finger touch smooth gear box, powerful original dual horns and superb overall driving control. I have played with the thought of asking my wife sometime, if we can look at replacing it with a newer hatch (as we need a 2nd smaller car), but she refuses to even look at anything. She is just so used to the Getz's super driving responsiveness. It is our 2nd car now and hence the running is around 140 kms per month.

Each time I take the Getz to the service center (which is approx. once in 8 to 10 months) and I talk about replacing it, the head of the service center (an automobile engineer) tells me that for such short running as a 2nd vehicle, just keep it. He (an automobile engineer, who has been with Hyundai for last 10+ years) once told me that, the current I20 (which is the closest comparison to the Getz) build quality does not come anywhere close to the Getzs'. His exact words, "the Getz was actually made for European markets, but for some reason, Hyundai at that time just decided to let the Getz be sold to Indian customers for sometime". So, keep it is what his advise has been.

The only reason we may at some point trade it, is for spares which may soon start becoming hard to find. But otherwise, I agree that the Getz is one of the best made cars even by current standards.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

@PatienceWins which Hyundai service centre are you using to service your car? My 06 Getz is getting progressively worse with each service I get done from trident Sarjapur. Which is closest to my place. I am now considering FNG , though I have to find one first.
One suggestion I got was Bay6 Motorworks , do you have any experience with them.

I am using Advaith in Bellandur, Outer Ring Road. I find them better than Trident, indira Nagar - which I was using long back. I have not used any garages, no idea about Bay6.

It might help if you tell me why the Getz is getting progressively worse? I know the car inside out and I've shielded mine from the harmful hands of "Hyundai" authorised personnel so far, maybe I can help in determining what has to be done.

Also it'll be useful to frankly talk with the "advisors" before giving the car to them, I'm pretty explicit in telling them that their mechanics have next to no skill and I'm on the edge as far as using their station goes, once they know that I take a microscope to find out their errors and know more than a thing or two about mechanics they change their stance and do as told. There were a couple of occasions where I really flew off the handle on them, I told them with all the training and service experience they don't know 1/100th of what I do about mechanicals (either that or they specialize in pushing for unnecessary repairs and incomplete repairs). They won't win with me, ever.

Try Advaith as PatienceWins suggested.. ask the help desk at any of their service centers for the most experienced advisor and bitch about Trident to him, he'll get an ego boost and hopefully try to fix what "others" couldn't.

Car updates from my end :

- Brutal acceleration, dunno where it came from but I feel the engine is actually improving with age in terms of refinement and torque. I pushed the car in deep bends & curves (very high median, no intersections, not much traffic, 100% safe conditions) at 50- 60 -70 -80 kmph.. keeps on gripping and snapping back into position just the way I want it WHAT A CAR.

- A Civic driver decides to get restless in 100% gridlock and in a bid to go ahead pushes into my car in the rear, I got out and let loose my anger on him for his bad driving (as is evident in 99.99% of Indian drivers). Damage? His bumper got loose and was hanging, mine had a few scuffs and paint transfer from his car. Wiped it off and went on my way. WHAT A CAR.

- The Yoko's have been awesome tyres, lets in good feedback into the steering system and yet protects from the jerks and shakes in rough roads. Has gotten a bit harder after 10k kms but I'm loving it more. It took me a long time to finalize the brand at the store and I was literally scolding the storekeeper jokingly that this brand better not mess with the handling of the car, he patiently guaranteed improvement and improvement, it is.

- Not a single rattle, the chassis was made to handle equally well the 1.1 (petrol Epsilon), 1.3 (petrol Alpha), 1.4 (petrol Gamma), 1.5 (diesel Gamma), 1.6 (petrol Alpha) and 2.0 (petrol Gamma from Tiburon)... the MOST versatile chassis in the known history of Hyundai. WHAT A CAR.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

Many thanks for your response @dark.night

I couldn't agree more that Getz is a fantastic car , that's why I haven't upgraded it .
My situation is that car is giving me ~12 kmpl in city and 16-18 in highway .
And my requirement is better Performance, lower noise and not high mileage as my running is quite low

The engine has become very harsh and noisy over the last two services.

When the car was new I could cruise at 130 in supreme comfort and luxury
It is so noisy (engine) and rough that now going anything over 75 makes it unpleasant in the car.

Also I just noticed that car idle has increased from 700 to 1100 rpm. Is that something to be concerned about ?

I don't know how to fix these and as I mentioned earlier taking to Trident guys has made it progressively worse with each service.

Have decided to visit Advaith as suggested, though I keeping my expectations from that very low .

BTW is it possible that I can contact you directly through a private message or something.

I think your wonderful car is in the wrong hands. My mom's Getz gets serviced at a Bosch Authorized workshop (Sri Sai Automotives) near my house and I'm happy with the work done.

I live in Arekere though, so I don't think the location is very useful to you.

I can say that the Getz has solid build quality. The manager at my Bosch FNG told me that the Getz and the '08-'14 i20 have the best quality with high quality parts because they were made for export markets and Hyundai wasn't too bothered about domestic sales. He tells me that the Elite i20 is not as solid as the aforementioned cars as it is not exported to Europe.

I am getting fleeced by Hyundai guys. Charging so much for shoddy work they do for me.

Thank you so much for recommending this FNG. It's only showing 10km from my place .So this is what I am going to try next
Would you recommend any Hyundai specialist or should I directly approach the manager there. .

I really don't approach any Hyundai specialist, but the manager there. His name is Parikshith.

If you still want ASS, I would recommend Advaith Hyundai, Hulimavu. https://www.google.co.in/maps/place/...04!4d77.596545

I've got two services done there and like the place. Pradeep was my SA there. You can reach him on nine nine seven two zero four five nine eight five.

They are slightly expensive compared to the FNG though.

Hope this helps.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

Over last five years things have become exorbitant at ASS.
I got all four shocks changed and it costed me 8k including labor five years back
Now the same thing will cost me more than 20k !!
