2001 Hyundai Santro LS

One of the first cars that was Iv used was a white fiat which was then replaced by a white zen which was again replaced by a silver Hyundai Santro. I initially wanted a Matiz but my mother finally decided to get a Santro. I wasnt too pleased about this but was excited that we were getting a new car. Over the years Iv started to like the Santro more and more. Now without getting more scenti Id like to start a long term ownership report for her. I have a file which has her entire service history in it which Ill use to update this ownership report.

We decide to get the car ICEd. Install a Nakamichi TD350z Cassette player and 4" JBLs in the dash and 6x9 JBLs on the rear parcel tray. We probably shouldv gone for the CD player but with our huge cassette collection, the cassette player seemed to be a better buy.Sounds great but the panel doesnt work in the morning. We take it back to the dealer and get a new panel.

We decide to take her on her first long distance trip outside Mumbai. We go to Mahabaleshwar and then to Pune. The petrol filled in Mahabaleshwar was adultrated and this causes the fuel pump to fail. A quick call to Kothari Hyundai and they send their team over to replace the fuel pump under warranty even though it wasnt a manufacturing defect. Great Service!!

The muffler gives way and has to be replaced. A new muffler costs Rs 850 + Rs 400 to replace it. I believe this is a common problem with the Santro.

Our car gets rear ended, nothing major but we have to replace the entire tale gate as Hyundai wont repair it. Insurance takes care of it. Besides it isnt all that expensive. The entire rear tailgate is for INR 5800+ labour

This is our last service with Jayabharat Hyundai. They replaced our battery which was in good condition and original left ORVM with an old battery and duplicate ORVM.

After our car stalls a few times we decide to get the battery checked. The mechanic at the Exide showroom shows us the date on the battery which shows that is a lot older than the car. Its clear that someoen at Jayabharat Hyundai has changed our battery. A new battery for Rs. 3000 goes in and we are off.

Time to change the tyres. The stock bridgestones did their job for around 50,000 kms and 4 years and its time to change. Goodyear GT-3s go onto the car. 4 tyres for Rs. 7800

Sometime around October 2004 we need the car in Delhi. Not wanting to drive the car down ourselves we arrange for a truck to transport the car. The car reaches properly but when we bring it back in March 2005 there is a cut in the rear bumper and a scratch on the roof. Nothing major though.

The repaired muffler on our Santro gives way and is replaced at Arush's workshop. He predicts that the clutch is going to give way after x kms and when we finally replace the clutch we find that his prediction was pretty accurate.
