Really? I've never really been a fan of the (now last-gen) C class Merc, so I don't really know much about the ride on the car, but the 320D has a better ride, despite it's fairly stiff suspension? Wow...I guess that's an area that MBIL need to address on the new C then...

Hi V10 can we have a long term review from you? How's the performance of the car? As per reviews here the turbo lag was a bit of a problem.

amazing performance for a 2 litre deisel powered car!!.... yes there is a bit of turbo lag like the superb but in sports mode it is reduced marginally ...
the other day in sports mode off, ESP off managed 9.8 seconds on bad roads...

but keeping this descent performance in mind its mileage is the major positive factor.... manage about 13-14 kmpl when i dont drive like a moron or the car is with the driver....

Spotted silver Passat on road here in Bangalore. It made its presence felt and I could see people turning their heads. Overall it seems to be a good package but I believe somebody rightly pointed out the pricing factor.

Anything above 20 lacs in India must give that snob value. Not too sure if Passat would generate that. Mindsets are such that people wouldn't mind stretching their budgets and going for entry level Audis, Mercs & BMWs. Also, in some or the way VW in India would compete with its cousin Skoda and Passat is around Superb price range.

i think you are absolutely right, chat. i think VW has made a little bit of a 'boo-boo' when i comes to pricing of the passat or of the superb- they are squarely in each others' territory, and it would definitely lead to cannibalisation. personally, i would have the passat at that price... i dont understand why the superb is still around, especially when they have the laura for a little less money and now the passat for the same money- why not phase it out completely and concentrate on building the VW brand at that price range? skoda is already established as a brand which provides good value for money- NOT SNOB VALUE, so as you rightly pointed out, they should concentrate on building that snob value for VW. this might also help sales of the forthcoming jetta!

The engine specs mention that it's a 2.0TDI engine with 140bhp. Indian car magazines claim it as a pump duese engine. Other places on the net say that the passat is sold internationally with a new Common rail injection engine.

So have they got the old engine for india with PD or is the indian one also common rail but wrongly stated by the car mags.

It is a common rail. The 1.9 is the PD engine. the common rails are going to be big trouble later on as they are not so reliable, built to high tolerances and too much electronics

Hey V10, could you give some details on the maintenance costs of the passat? How much does the service cost? Also is your colour Mocca Antracite with the dark beige interiors. Would love to see some interior pics as well as rear seat pics.

At 24 lacs its a sure hit!
Power/weight ratio I'm guessing.
Is the VW a 4 or 6 pot engine?

Must be a good car- Robert Frost drove one :-) or was that the Audi?
