Sorry i didnt update about the progress following the service.

The last time i had complained about the wind noise issue, they had mentioned it was an issue with the sealant that they had used. Apparently, it wasnt doing its job properly. The solution for this would be to redo the windshield job, using new sealant. They agreed to redoing the job, at no expense to me.

My initial impressions after getting back the car indicate the problem has been resolved. Will however still keep my ears tuned for any sounds.

Issue #2 : Apparently a case of some loose connection, which was rectified.

Issue #3 : Seems to be fine now, the noise with the fan switched on has also decreased.

Issue #4: ORVM replaced, with old parts returned.

Benny, I feel that the bills are being inflated.

* Wash fluid pouch ? What is this ?
* Does Mike need 4.6L ? for a 1.3L engine ?
* What is the difference between Element air cleaner & mesh filter ?

* Why should sparkplug check & adjustment be exclusive of service ? If that is the way it is, why are they charging for service ? As it is these scheduled services are pre-defined - and I dont think they really check unless there's something really amiss. Checking spark plugs would be part of these scheduled service checks.

* Brake system bleeding - I feel it's high (even if the charges are par)

* And 275 Rs worth of consumables ??
For what ? Cotton Waste, water, .. ?

Even my truck comes through in about 60% of that, even after a 7.7litre oil change.

Yeah, I agree. This is the kind of bill that most A.S.S make. Only a few customers actually challenge the bill & they will reduce it if you do. I really can't understand 'Check & adjust spark plugs - 61' or the 4.6L oil. My esteem takes 3.5L. And wash fluid pouch is mostly a 3 buck shampoo sachet.

Parwath / John : I had some doubts myself, but decided to ignore them for the time being. Since you guys have also raised this, i shall do a comparo with the old bills which were generated during service at Cauvery Ford. Lemme see if this matches up with that. Shall compare and post my findings here.

As for the quantity of engine oil consumed, i faintly remember it being 4.X litres since the early days. Will however confirm the same.

Autocop goes silent

Yesterday i am out to get some weekly shopping done, and park the car before the supermarket. As usual, use the remote to lock the car, and wait for the beep. No beep, but the signals flash indicating the doors have now been locked. Surprised, i unlock the car using the remote.. again no sound, but the operation is performed.

I now try the panic alarm, but even that doesnt sound! Looks like a case of the wires to the speaker being disconnected. Will need to check that out myself, or else call the Autocop chaps. This would be the second time in close to 3 years that i would require their assistance.

The issue with the Autocop siren not working was diagnised to be a case of cut wiring. I had observed there were a couple of cut wires during my own investigation, but decided to let the specialists take over.

Seems to be a menace thanks to rats. Will need to do something to ward them off. Going by the thread on the same, will try out tobacco sachets.

Thanks for the nice words.

As for the boot release, the thread should be very helpful to you in DIY once you have the required materials sourced. We could certainly meet up when you are in town.

I usually get the alignment and balancing done from the dealer, and the exercise costs me about Rs.900/- including the weights. For a change, i decided to avoid having this done at the dealer, and decided to get this done at Madhu's on Richmond Road.

Called up Nikhil and on Saturday morning was there early to get the work done. In the process got to meet up with Nikhil with whom i have interacted since a long time i have been on the forum but never gotten to meet. Rather than it being just a routine affair where i give in the car and then wait to get it back, i was explained about the proceedings and why, while the work was being carried out.

I was charged Rs.400/- for the alignment and balancing including the weights and the service rendered was really good. I would surely not be getting this done at the dealer's henceforth.

Thanks Nikhil for taking time out to meet up.

A long drive to Kerala is on the cards within the next 2 weeks, and i am really looking forward to it. Looks like the 3rd anniversary of my ownership with the car would be celebrated in Kerala.

Hi Ben,

I followed Mike's story and quite impressed with the details provided by you. I own a Ford Ikon Flair too. I stay on the Old Air port road (to get an idea, Exactly, at the place where your car was hit by an Auto Guy - I read through your posts).

I have a query, My car is due for servicing (ODO - 15K +) and it is out of warranty, What is your recommendation? All these days its been serviced in Lathangi. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I would suggest you stick to dealer for regular service, and do wheel alignment and balancing from a good shop outside.

Jaggu, Thanks for the suggestion. I would do so. However, Honestly, I dont know where is a decent shop in & around Maratha Halli in Bangalore to do a wheel alignment & balancing. Any pointers would definitely help. Also, as my tyres are 15K Kms old, do I need to rotate the tyres?

I goto Madhus at Richmond, maybe others can help with shops near Marthahalli. Yes tire needs rotation every 5-7k kms and ensure you use spare tire also to get the best out of all 5 tires.
