Hi All,

My last post was regarding My Indigo SX which has completed 18000 KM.However i couldnt share with you the joy having a new member(actually bought by my dad) in our stable. We took delivery of Verna in last March (the colour is sequein red if i am not wrong).
Wanted to share with you the impressions i have about the car

Looks.

Reminds slightly of Subaru, the front grille.I personally liked the unique styling but needs to spruced up a little bit with alloys etc. Please advice me on the same.

Interior
Not that Great. But much better than Accent. The seats are very hard and the plastics used is just ok.However the plain styling of the dash board and the controls are simple and good. You can rate the interiors as above average but not excellent.Space is good inside but the driving position i am not happy abou.Would have preffered height adjustable seats.I am 5 9.So the seating comfort is nowhere near indigo sx where you feel seated in SUV and also you can walk in and out of the car.For Verna a slight crawling is needed to get in.

Suspension and Brakes.

Here i need real advise from all of you.the suspension is not bad but unfortunately cannot match the power of the car.The car sways a lot when aceelerated and that affects the drivers confidence. But at the same time going over potholes and and broken roads the suspension is boon as nothing much is felt inside and the car glides smoothly.Yes the vehicle sways a lot but you can easily ferry accros almost no roads and the suspension doesnt protest. The ground clerance is also very good(my experience from cohin mangalore drive where road has become hell after the recent rains.).The steering is not that great and feels lifeless and wibrates a lot and make noises too on bad roads.

The brakes are not confident inspiring and unfortunately i don have the ABS version. The tyrs have been upgraded but the alloys are not added.

Please advise me on this. i want to add alloys and tyres that will offer excellent handling and braking to the vehicle as these two are of major concern now. Also suspension,is it possible for some mods done to this so that handling improves.

Engine.

Very powerful but not city friendly.will take alot of time to get used to.But silent quick. But any time i prefer engine with less power but more driver friendly.I think Fiesta scores here.Mileage i get average of 19km/ltr with AC and above 120kmph.This is the thing that really shows the efficiency of the engine.

Service is provided by KTC hyundai thrichur and the sales guys are real morons who doesnt know ABC about cars. The only term they know is BHP 110.:) and believes thats all we need.one idiot tried comparing the safety features with MERC!!.They are trying to fool the ordinary citizens with their stupid knowledge.Thank god i am part of t bhp,i gave him enough that the guy just left the scene.

Over all verdict(personal opinion:) )

really good car but wrongly positioned by hyundai regarding pricing and options.Engine is real gem but nothing matches up to that.Need to evolve a lot.

Areas of concern.

Handling and brakes.

Seating position.

Poor lights

Slightly notchy gears,but improving.

Price(due to lack of of many necessary comforts)

I personally prefer using the indigo usually because of the solid feeling the car gives while cruising at high speeds say 130, and good brakes and excellent seating comfort

Nice writeup, shebin.

Quite an accurate summary, and matches what I've heard/read - the handling isn't quite to the level of the engine.

Now thats something many on the forum have mentioned, specially the seating comfort.

As about the suspension on the Verna, again quite spot-on.

Good write-up shebin.
You've rightly mentioned that the car does not inspire confidence to the driver. Sadly, Hyundai thought that plonking a powerful/ F.E. engine was all they needed to do. Omitting ABS as a standard feature is not cutting corners, it's biting a whole bit off! This is exactly what Fiesta's advertising right now, on the basis of the recent review in an Auto mag(forgot the name). The 1.6TDCi from Fiesta if launched, priced right, is going to swallow up Verna for sure!

Hmmm..... Ford 1.6 if priced right will rock the market. But i wont even consider ford as an option just because the company loot their customers in name of ***,which again is hopeless. At least hyundai *** is ok and Ford diesels in my experience (ikon and escort) are not that great.Anyway i just cant digest the fact that the ford people believe in looting their customers so i prefer to keep away from them.

Verna i m sure will evolve as a great car since hyundai is more receptive to feed backs. The issues i am facing now however is becoming less day by day as i am getting used to the car.
But anyway it will have its own fan following who are power hungry :)

Hows the seating comfort in the rear on long drives.
Whats your car's present tyre make/profile?

The same will be true for Verna CRDI too, a slight decrease in price and it can become a hot cake.

Das, the rear set comfort is quite good, much better than any other car in the class(except the indigo in my experience).but on uneven roads again the car shakes a lot that affects the rear passengers. But space and egronmics are good.

The tyre im having now is MRF and is one size bigger than the stock.Sorry i don remember the actual numbers.

Verna can really become a hot cake, provided the hyundai people understand the market much better. If they think we can be made buy anything in the name of BHP,i really ptiy them coz the product will sink in the market.

Anyways as i mentioned earlier the car easily glides over bad roads due to the high Ground clearence and potholes and road cracks are never a problem with her.But the car rocks a lot on uneven surface.

Hmmm.... Quite a nice write up of your Verna experience. You're correct in many aspects of the car.

If you want to experience a boat on land, take it to above 140kmh and That's it. A full fledged boat and you can sail as you don't want it.

The rear seat comfort wasn't that great for long journeys too. I prefer Accent's rear seats compared to Verna. It also feels a bit tighter too.
If Indigo's rear seats are better than Verna, it is high time Hyundai do something about this car.

Hyundai was good in customer reaction etc... But lately, it really feels they're falling down the stairs now.

Again and again, it feels that BVR Subbu's absence is making It's presence felt in Hyundai. Sign of something bad it is.

Quite spot on review sherbin, good one. I did a TD on the first day of its release in Hyderabad. Just before that, I was totally sold on viva crdi but wanted to take a look at verna before taking the plunge. I was first to do the TD with Talwar and did a 35km speed and gutter:p run before i made up my mind of not investing over a lakh more ( than viva) for just the additional horses and a boat like suspension and didnt quite like the rear seat comfort and driving position is also not too exciting.

As a matter of fact, even viva crdi has some gliding feeling ( i think in most hyundais this problem is there ) but at over 150kmph, till this speed, its rock solid. I am currently on stock tyres which i feel is inadequate for high speed cruising and plan to change them to 15" when i touch 30K kms. Rear seat comfort is also quite good. Plus, i was saving a lakh and I still think Viva CRDI looks way way better than verna for sure.

Zak, Accent's rear seats better than Verna's?
I havent sat in a Verna, but the Accent has a really low seating, and makes you struggle to perch yourself on it. If the Verna's seating is worse than this, i think something's not right.

Rear seat comfort i dont think accent is better.Based on the opinion of my family members(usually i occuppy front) verna is better.

The problem that they need to address immediately is regarding the suspension and brakes. Now it has settled down a bit and is better, but more firmness is desirable.I wonder if there is any settings that the showroom guys can adjust to overcome this issue. Above 140 the hell breaks loose with the suspension.

Guys

A bus crashed on my Verna from rear right door.both were in good speed.Luckily nothing happened, need to spend 45000 for both doors.
I am impressed by the strength of the body.the bus bumper also got bend inside............seems to be better than Maruthis. I am safe:)

Shebin, you meant you need to replace both the doors on the right?
How did the accident happen?

Hi ,

It was a T shaped junction and i was approaching the junction i saw the bus from one side but it was far away but in good speed. So i entered the junction and you know Verna is a rocket. So the bus guy also misjudjed the speed i am doing. But i had crossed the junction much before he expected and he couldn,t time the braking he came and hit my passenger side backdoor, both doors got damaged, but other than that no structural damage. Both the doors and labour comes abt 45000/-

Its very difficult to judje the speed of this car, especially while overtaking you should be able to controll the speeds or else you ll land in the nearby living room especially in narrow kerala roads:)
