Hyundai Getz Prime 1.3 GLS - 50km report

Hi All

Apologies for this short term report in the "Long Term Ownership" Thread. I certainly plan to make it a Long term report going forward

After much much vaccilation, recorded here in my introduction post I have finally settled for a Getz Prime GLS (1.3).

Some pix here:

Some highlights:
  • Art leather seats from the dealer - look and feel close enough to the real one and suits me since I consciously prefer not to use leather.
    • Further - helps clean up faster with a three-year old who is quite consistent at throwing up in every long drive
  • Got Pioneer mp3 system installed by the dealer to avoid warranty voiding issues by installing outside
Got both these at cost price and Rs.1000 discount from the dealer
  • Autocop remote locking installed
  • 3M underside coating done
  • Teflon coating done
  • Floor mats
All three provided complimentary by the dealer
The dealer was Trident Hyundai at Indiranagar (Bangalore). I got EXCELLENT service from them, even regarding an issue not related to my purchase where they helped me out (more on this later).
I took possession of the car on Wednesday morning - due to some auspicious date requirements. However, they could not fit the seat covers by then. So after the mandatory temple visit I dropped it back with them.
They installed the license plates and seat covers and delivered it home for me later that day. Really good service.
Overall - they made the purchase process quite a pleasant experience.

I took Insurance from my financing company - HDFC - which reduced my EMI a little more.

The car itself:
  • Liked the colour - my wife's selection. Don't see too much of it around.
  • The interiors are very neat - not very cheap looking as was made out in a number of posts. It certainly feels quite nice.. (Or maybe that's just because its my new car)
  • Seats are very comfortable - tilt steering, left foot rest and hand rest make even city driving VERY comfortable.
  • Legendary space in back seat and boot - one of the prime deciding factors (apart from quick availability) - in my purchase
  • Awesome gearshift (as mentioned by others in earlier posts) - something even an automobile-ignoramus like me can appreciate
  • Lot of storage all around - very thoughtfully kept pockets
  • Power steering is not bad - i felt it could be a wee bit softer but the feedback is good
  • External noise levels very low when windows are put up - couple of times ended up trying to start ignition even when car was already running - almost totally noiseless engne.
I was concerned about pickup, etc.
My first drive was on Old Madras Road - at 9:30 am.
Hardly went past 2nd/3rd gear most times. Had to take a U Turn - found a small gap between two buses after a long wait and slammed the accelerator on first gear.
The car came alive and zipped (three adults + baggage) off with ample power and enough space/time to spare. Also, the small turning radius showed itself to be very useful at this time.

Overall, it is like a big car inside packaged in a small car body

Still done only 50km - itching to take her out.

Wll update wth more details going forward.

Thanks for all the advise I've got reading various discussions - truly an enlightening experience being a member of this forum.

Cheers

Ravi

Got the price from your other thread. I had paid 6.1 lakhs for GLX version when the car was launched.
Its a great car for city traffic and has enough power, superb ride and handling for highway.

Thanks Akshay - You are right. But I had no choice at that turning else i'd have been waiting for ages...
But I usually don't do wild acceleration.

Price:
Car OTR - 5.64 Lakhs (GLS - 1.3)
Music System (Pioneer) + Art leather seat covers - Rs.17,000

I sticked to user manual recommendation, under 95kmpl for the first 1300 km. I had to cross 140 during the Team BHP meet...-:(
Getting mileage of 11 in city with AC ON 50% of the time..The AC is very good.
13 in highway with very rash driving(Mostly 3rd) ..

You'll Getz used to it - this is standard Hyundai India treatment.

Actually they are much better than any other car in that pricepoint. However people back home seem to prefer Maruti's low-spec plastics for some strange reason, hence the perception about the Getz plastics.
