All inclusive price with free shipping was 27990/-. When checked the recent price for the same unit I was surprised to see a drop in quote.

Even I was not aware of the your drive being recorded until I was reviewing the dash cam videos that evening. I saw this video and didn't remember driving behind the petrol bunk, for I went into the station for a fillup. Took me 2-3 minutes of wondering before it struck me that it was your drive.

Holy cow, this device was priced at 40K when I last checked it. That is quite some drop in price.

When I call my Grand Vitara a badroader, I really wonder how many people truly understand what I mean. Thanks to the dash camera I can actually show it.

This is a very bad stretch of road by sedan standards, see how GV can tackle it while maintaining 40-50kmph speed. Even my wife and kids were in the car and they hardly felt the road.

Meanwhile Sedans had to really crawl in this stretch, see the Honda City at 10:00 video position.

re: The First Grand Vitara Ownership on Team-BHP [100000 KMs & 8 Years]

Hi Guys,
I am planning to pick a used Automatic Grand Vitara in place of my existing 2.0 manual Grand Vitara. I have certain queries regarding the Automatic Grand Vitara.

I want to know what will be the best and worst KMPL one can expect from the Automatic Grand Vitara. What are the advantages of the Automatic Grand Vitara over the 2.0 manual Grand Vitara. So far as my knowledge goes the Automatic Grand Vitara is available only in 2.4L engine and please correct me if I am wrong. What are the additional features available on the Automatic Grand Vitara when compared to 2.0 Manual. What will be the maintenance issues with an Automatic Grand Vitara when compared to a Manual Grand Vitara.

I want an Automatic as I am fed up of changing gears and I would always prefer an Automatic over a Manual. Any suggestions and feedbacks are welcome. Kindly advice and answer my queries.

My two cents( even though I do not have an AT Grand Vitara.):-

I have a Santro AT which has an old tech 4speed with Torque Converter. The torque convertor does mask the lack of power to a certain extent & gives excellent initial pull on kick-down. On highways (with 2 people+luggage) I only needed to time the kickdown properly for easy overtaking. Have given a Skoda Octavia, Scorpios and other vehicles (& my wife) some worrying moments with my moves.
When I was asking around re the Grand Vitara AT I did not get any negative feedback about the gearbox's reliability. Also it is a low tech unit which is well proven & debugged. So I do not think you will have any issues there.

I have found that it is now virtually impossible to get resale 2L-AT models. And there are no 2.4L-ATs coming to the resale market. All the best in your search. You can look at Outlanders also!.

One thing you may want to check is if the AT comes with low range (if it is important for you). Many AT variants of 4X4/AWDs do away with the low range

re: The First Grand Vitara Ownership on Team-BHP [100000 KMs & 8 Years]

The 2.0 liter GV did come with both MT and AT. In fact, I did my test drive of GV in AT version back in 2007. And it does have low range in AT.

AT gearbox shouldn't have any issues. It is quite mature and old technology. The FE will be at least 2Kmpl lower than the manual version from what I recall.

My AT review: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...r-reports.html (Test Drive of Suzuki Grand Vitara on horrible roads and other reports)

If operating the clutch is the only issue you could also look at the following auto clutch:-

And later on upgrade to the 2016 Grand Vitara!

I have a 2.4 AT GV and it's amazing both on road and no roads. Have done all terrains from Himalaya's, Rajasthan desert to Sakleshpur in monsoons. Average is approx 9-10 and depends on driving style. In mountains it drops to 8-8.5. It's a pleasurable drive as it's full time 4 wheel drive (not the All Wheel Drive AWD scam).

It does decently well off road - never had an issue. My other drive is a stock gypsy MG413W - so my driving experience is against a decent benchmark.

The GV comes with 4-3-2-1 gear limiters and 4H Lock and 4L Lock. If you are in 3 on the gear shift it means 3rd is top gear and you step on the gas and shift down to 2nd or 1st gear OR if your speed is slow it will shift down - basically it will never shift into 4th gear. Same with 2 and L (L means 1st). See the drive selector picture for 4H (default) and 4H and 4L in pictures below.

There is a button which increases RPM (refer "POWER" button in picture below) and gives more range within the same gear (gear changes at higher RPM) to give additional power. Never had to use it though. The 2.4 Liter is a huge surprise and never felt it was underpowered.

re: The First Grand Vitara Ownership on Team-BHP [100000 KMs & 8 Years]

Hi Guys,
Thanks everyone for your patient replies and explanations. Yes definitely changing gears and operation of clutch is my concern and hence I want to upgrade to an AT. Well I don't mind sacrificing a couple of kmpl if I can have the ease of driving and the pleasure of still owning a Grand Vitara. Will definitely let you guys know once I find a good used Grand Vitara AT and will also post regarding my experience with the same. Thanks everyone again and more comments, replies and explanations are welcome.

Now Udupi has another Grand Vitara. After watching my Vitara over the last few years, BHPian Sashas (Sachin) decided to buy a pre-owned GV himself. After 3 months of hunt in Mumbai, he finally found a very good 2008 MT model.

2008 is 2.4 or 2.0? 2.4L is rare but imo the perfect motor for the Vitara.

2008 should be a 2.0L; I think the 2.4 L came out only in 2010 or so.

I would suggest to remove those corner strips. Even slightly scratched bumper looks better then wearing those plastic strips.
