I did a detailed study of the Service Manual.

For the Front Lower Arm Suzuki recommends changing only 1 bushing. There are 2 more joints & I guess if they are damaged one is expected to change the whole arm. These are marked as 1 & 2 in the image below:


I am getting spare bushes, on Ebay, for position 1. Nothing is available for position 2.


Similarly, for the Rear Upper Arm, Suzuki expects you to change the full arm if the marked joint is damaged.

Now coming to the parts which I have marked as ***. Kindly note that they have part number as XXXXX-78XXX whereas most of the other parts have XXXXX-65/66XXX

65/66 stands for 2.0L, 78 is the code for 2.4L.

Now the parts catalogue says you to get the part 45201-78K00, 45202-78K00 and 42412-78K00 when I have selected 2.0L Vitara. Probably the "-65" parts have been discontinued, but request you to kindly check for these parts which were originally installed in Vitara 2.0. You can get the 65 ones if they are lying at their warehouse. If you don't get them, then only order 78 ones.

For 45201-78K00, try to place order for 45201-65J00 which costs 5800.
For 45202-78K00, try to place order for 45201-65J00 which costs 5800.
For 42412-78K00, try to place order for 42412-65J00/42412-65J02 which costs Rs.120

Hi Shashi, Would you also be able to look up the part and price for the exhaust mount for a GV 2.4. Mine looks slightly twisted so the exhaust is touching the bumper a little bit.

Serial Number 17 and 18. 17 costs Rs. 228 whereas 18 costs Rs. 480. Kindly check 19 and 20 too, they can also be the culprit.

Got a pair of Roots Vibrosonic horns for the GV.I wanted to install Roots Megasonic horns but found them to be too heavy.

I ruled out the Bosch Symphony , Denso Powertone , Denso Compact powertone , Hella Redgrilles as I personally felt the tone of these horns synced better with sedans and hatchbacks.

I took over an hour to figure out where to install the Vibrosonics and was clear that I wouldn't want them too close to the a.c. condenser like how most horns are fixed.In the unlikely event of a minor frontal impact , I didn't want the horns to be damaging any critical or expensive components of the car.

Eventually I decided to weld clamps onto the front impact bar and install the horns on these clamps.That way , the horns would fire front , and they wouldn't eat significantly into the gap between the bumper and the a.c. condenser.

The impact bar was removed , clamps welded and bar re-installed.

The total cost was INR 1350 for the horns , 150 for welding , and 800 for parts (clamps , relay , wiring , fuse holder and fuse ) and installation .

The wiring for this pair of horns is independent of the stock wiring and has a 20A Hyundai relay and ,
a Roots ceramic fuse holder + 20A fuse.

I am reliving the Vibrosonic experience after 13 years ( I had them on my Esteem ).

I was curious to see how often does Maruti import parts for the Grand Vitara.

Something I noticed though. If you search for a specific part number on Zauba, you can see its declared price per unit. For example, for LEFT (not RHS) Front Control Arm, part no 45202-78K00, the price per unit is about Rs 4500-4700.



If you add the import taxes and duties for the applicable HS code on Cybex, the total amount is about Rs. 1330.

So 4700+1330 ~ Rs. 6000. But Maruti sells this part for about Rs. 9500.

Are they seriously making almost 35% on each part? (minus shipping)

Importing Suzuki parts from Amazon US (or something similar) might just turn out significantly cheaper then, wouldn't it?

The bush marked 1 is generally the first casualty.If you remove the left wheel or right wheel , you will typically see the rubber in part1 tearing away.

It is possible to change all three if you get the parts.A good machinist will be able to have them in place.

From whatever little I know about these spares business, VAT and other taxes are calculated above the amount which you said. MRP includes everything. If 100 rupees is the amount of the spare, here is the profit breakdown

If bought directly from MGP store
1. MSIL's profit- Rs. 12/-
2. MGP dealer's share-Rs.13/-

If you buy a spare from the MASS, the breakup becomes like this
1. MSIL's - Rs. 12/-
2. MGP dealer- Rs. 8
3. MASS- Rs. 5/-

Also the declared amount on Zauba doesn't always reflect the true cost.

The two parts marked 1 & 2 are not available at MASS. So it would be a total arm change.

Got my vehicle serviced. All suspension bolts were oiled and torqued down.
Now the suspension has quietened down. The SA reported that all bushings are in good shape.
There is only one rattling when going over sharp ruts or rumble strips. I suspect the rear shock absorbers now as one of them is showing a minor leak.

Will go in for the OME setup as my springs have sagged a lot.

On 22nd. 3 of us took our Grand Vitaras on the Slope of Hell Trail.

"thewhiteknight", "sanjusahu" & yours truly participated. Some photos of the same:-



From right to left it is "whiteknight" (with OME lifts), "sanjusahu" (with a sagged rear suspension) & yours truly (with a sagged front and moderately sagged rear).



We did not do the final climb to the view point. The ladies vetoed that as they did not want any further scratches to their Soutens' paintwork. So we had a little picnic and spent some time driving each other's cars and discussing points re repairs and upgrades.


The vehicles did the climb easily. It was 4H almost all the way. At a couple of spots we had to stop to allow oncoming Sumos to pass. A couple of turns were tricky as there were loose rocks and mud. In such situations we shifted to 4HL or 4LL depending in the surface. There was some wheel spin in some patches but nothing that could not be controlled. "sanjusahu" had his first taste of 4HL & 4LL driving and is now hooked to the experience.

I averaged 11.1kmpl on a 305km trip today on NH4 in my GV AT. The trip included some mad traffic between Sriperumbudur and Chennai City in both the onward and return runs. I held the speed at 80kmph and there was very little braking. Where there were situations that needed slowing down (like 2 trucks in adjacent lanes), I planned the speed reduction such that I never dropped below 50kmph, and thus seldom to no. 3 gear.

My AT rarely goes on long highway runs. On trails and hill roads I get around 8 kmpl.

On a recent run to Wai I got 12 on the highway patch. Similarly on a small run to Kamshet, on the old NH4 I got closer to 12.5. But these are not full tank to full tank readings. I basically reset the dash indicator and corrected for its reporting error.

80 kmph is indeed the sweet spot for getting good mileage.
