Hi All

My Grand Vitara went to Motorcraft, Sector 140 Noida (New Workshop for Ralleys).
I met Praveen Tyagi, and Rahul Dutt there. My work was handled by Satpal Rana.

I had the following issues which I needed fixed.
1. First and Second gears were really getting hard occasionally.
2. My Grand Vitara has done about 97000 km and it was about time that the clutch be overhauled.
3. The Gear Lever had a lot of play.
4. The Differential Boot (Axel Boot) inner Right side was torn and needed to be replaced.

The following things were discussed and parts ordered
1. The Clutch Plate, Pressure Plate, Clutch Beering with Slave cylender replaced.
2. The Low Gear Syncroniser Rings could be the culprits for the Hard First and Second Gears, so these would be ordered.
3. The Gear Lever and Lower Seet (Item 10 in Invoice) need to be replaced to reduce play.
4. The Differential Boot will be replaced.

Since all these things needed the gear box to be removed, it was thought best to get everything done together.

So the Car was given on Sunday, and I got it back on Tuesday. Everything seems to be fixed, and no issues so far. The First and Second Gears do not get hard, and the Gear Play has gone. The Clutch is butter soft, it was really hard before. In my experience I have seen that whenever a clutch overhaul is done the clutch pedal becomes really light but after about 5,000 kms it tends to get hard again. Lets see how this goes.

It was expensive with total cost over Rs 40,000 , but I thought I will get all this done in one go as I intend to keep the Grand Vitara for at least five years. I do travel to very far off places and did not want to take chances with the clutch.

I am attaching the Invocie. If anybody has any questions please feel free to ask.

I messed up the ordering of Front Drive shaft Differential side boot(RH). RH and LH is not indicated in the Parts ordering system. Now i have 44126-65J00 as a spare with me.

However
44126-65J00 is boot set for Left side
44125-65J00 is boot sed for Right side

Is it correct to conclude that XXXX(Even Number)-XXXXX is LH & XXXX(Odd Number)-XXXXX is RH

Yes, I checked some cases right now, your conclusion looks fine. Holds true in case of suspension too where the option is between LHS and RHS.

Looks beatup. And the number doesn't exist in RTO registry. How could that be?

Thanks guys. No there were absolutely no issues with the GV and most of the way was pretty cakewalk for it. At some stretches I saw Innovas, Safaris struggling but the GV simply ambled over. I think mine being an AT also helped in some cases, though on two occasions, I felt it would have been better had it been a MT.

Excellent pictures @Wanderernomad!

Good to see that the GV performed well. Did you get to use the 4L or 4H was sufficient all the way?

The Vitara was a good car but it was ahead of it's time as far as India is concerned when it was launched. I hope Maruti reintroduces it here again with a new modern petrol/diesel combo and I am sure it will sell like hot cakes and give the Creta a run for it's money.

Had to use 4L just once for a cross axle situation on loose soil on a steep incline where a tavera had broken its tie rods and prevented a full sweep on the bend. Though it could have been done without using 4L but just couldn't resist the urge to try it and also to show off to all the stranded people what GV can do (Obviously they did not know what tricks I was upto inside the cabin). Having an AT also helped as the GV simply rolled forward without going even an inch backward down the slope.

Faced a odd issue today. I have been filling petrol at a particular pump for 15 years without any issues. Today I went and filled my Grand Vitara with Speed at this outlet. Approximately 40 liters filled the tank..

I started the vehicle and moved out. It stalled almost immediately just at the exit. Eventually it turned out to be a case of water in the petrol. Investigations revealed a strong possibility that the pipeline from the underground tank to the dispensing unit has a rupture leading to water being drawn in. The Pump management has agreed to arrange for a mechanic to clean out the tank and fuel system and drain all the fuel and replace with fresh petrol.
I have parked the GV in the petrol pump for the night.

Please help me with the following queries:-

1. If I remember right, from Sudev's posts, there is no direct access to the fuel tank from the rear seat. If so, is it ok to drain out all the petrol from the filler tube using a manual pump?

2. I guess one will have to flush the fuel line leading upto the engine. Will reverse flush from engine to tank do the job?

3. Will injectors have to be cleaned?

4. Will fuel filter have to be replaced?

Please suggest any other points that have to be taken care of.

You will have to take out fuel tank, open the fuel pump and clean it out. Best done on a lift and to access you will have to remove he rear prop shaft, tank cover.

Draining will not work. GV has a saddle tank and both lower parts of tank need to be flushed. No shortcut. Rest no need to do anything else.
