Cedia Horn Switch Problem

Raja

Same problem has happened in my Cedia as well today. Horn was blaring for 15 minutes in office car park today! I removed the horn fuse.

I am going to India garage tomorrow, but they told me entire airbag assembly needs to be changed which costs 45k !!

So much for a horn switch . I dont really use horn that much. I am not very happy with external switch.

I am told another Cedia in bangalore had same problem and it is rare. Every car with airbags has similar mechanism - switch integrated in airbag assembly.

Anyone has feedback on last point?

Regards

But yesterday, I got a peculiar trouble in my car. Strange as it can be..!!!
Parked outside the Pizza Carner, Evening 7 pm. Engine switched off and all doors locked.
15 minutes later, the car horn goes BLARING at full throttle, NON-STOP and the indicators Blinking. My Cedia doesn't come with a anti-theft system nor even an audio feedback for the door-locks.
Came running, opened the door, started, stopped the engine, opened and closed all doors and the boot... It just wouldn't stop BLARING....
Finally pressed the Horn switch at the center of the steering wheel and it stopped.
Now relief yet. 3 minutes later it went again. FULL BLAST...
Man, no mechanics nearby, finally I could only stop it by doing the inevitable... Opened the bonnet and snapped the wires that connected the Hooters and it went silent.
This morning reported to Maya Motors and they are taken by surprise. They never had such a complaint before. They are picking up the car this afternoon to do a check on it.

Folks, Did anyone had such experience before..????
(Mods, pls move to more apt thread if you consider it suitable... Thanks).

Oh.this is scary.
Is your car out of warranty? Did the India garage see your car yet?
Why don't you call up HM directly and discuss the matter with them.
Please keep us updated about the developments.

Looks like I'm safe, car apparently comes with 24 months warranty. I am just 8 days short!

But I really apreciate my WagonR. 7 year 1 month, 65000 kms, just 1 flat tyre in 7 yrs (Tyres replaced at 55k kms), 1 wiper clamp failure which got repaired. Not even battery changed till date!

@megger: get the airbag changed mate..good that u still had 8 days for the warrenty to expire.. I know we normally dont need extended warrenty.. but if you want you can still opt for the third year warrenty for Rs.12,500

You don't need to change the airbag with the horn switch. They just don't wish to tinker with it. You can open up the steering and separate the airbag and replace just the steering wheel (or the horn pad, if you get it as a spare part). However, handle it like how you would handle a bomb. It actually is one.

Funny problem this. Thankfully I've not faced it in 30000km, 2.5 years. I hope your car gets rectified soon.

Dont know what to say.. but I guess the problem with your airbag is just one off case.... otherwise.. its a damn reliable car.. Last time I went to Asian Motors, they had a silver cedia with CNG up and was running as a taxi.. yes a taxi and had clocked more than 1.2 lac kms without any problem.. so I hope you and me wont have problems with our cedias in future...wish u all the best

That's scary,
the problem doesn't seem to be one off, as discussed in this thread, this has happened to three cedias.
I've taken extended warranty, I wonder if such things are covered !

BTW, where's the horn fuse? or one should just disconnect the battery?

Little off topic...
A friend of mine was telling me about some pearl plan from Tata AIG,
by paying little extra on top of regular insurance premium, they consider 0% depreciation on the parts replaced.
need to confirm this, and also need to check if things like airbag replacement is considered under such plans.

Took car to India Garage today. They are raising request for part replacement.

The airbag assembly costs Rs. 61k+ and not Rs. 45k !!

Fortunately the car was still under warranty (till 26th of this month!). I promptly bought extended warranty fr 7.5k today. If it is product quality issue, then extended warranty is the ransom I'll have to pay every year.

Horn fuse is in the top right quadrant in bonnet, the horn sign is clearly marked in schematic on fuse panel.

Regards

I think extended warranty can be bought only once (i.e for 3rd year)
or can you extend it every year?

61k for the assembly.. I am certainly going for the third year warrenty..I was under an impression that it costs 12.5k... just spoke to some 1 in asian motors and they told me that its for 7.5k and 12.5k is for pajero..

Plus.. you cannot extend it further.. its just till 3 years..
