My Mountain Green Safari 2.2 EX 4X2

It’s been a month and 1500 kms with the beast and what a time it’s been.

Had gone with a friend to check out the newly launched 2.2, sat inside the car and just fell in love with it.

Was a little hesitant with the size of the beast (keeping in mind Delhi’s parking problems) but the lust of the beast soon overtook practicality and decided to buy it. Went for a test drive with my family the following week and the look on my face made it clear to all that I had to buy the car.

Started calling up dealers to get the best deal – but got pretty much the same response – no discount, no one had the color in stock and would take 15 days to get it. In the meanwhile saw all the speculation on Team bhp as to what’s things wrong with the 2.2 – from blown gaskets to faulty power steering assemblies. Also read the horror stories of Tata Motor dealers and the comparison of the 3.0 to the 2.2 – started wondering if I made the right decision.

Kept my fingers crossed and went ahead and took delivery a month back. Was a pleasant experience and the dealer was quite good. Drove the car out of the showroom and hit a massive 2 km jam. Used to driving the NHC, I was apprehensive about maneuvering the beast in this traffic. After 5 mins I realized people call this the ‘truck’ but it drives like a baby. With a commanding view all around and the massive road presence traffic jams are not so bad and much better to manage in this beast. Also the drivability of the 2.2 is amazing. Haven’t driven the 3.0 but read a lot about it, the new Safari is definitely a step forward for TML.

I had just started to move and realized the speedo wasn’t working. Cursed the dealer managed to get out of the traffic took a U Turn and drove back ready to kick his #$%. He apologized and said that the cable must have come off while fixing the gear lock. Quickly slid under it and fixed it in a jiffy. Wonder why they disconnected it especially when all TD’s were being given in a Black VX) This can’t be a TD vehicle or could it? – Well I’d rather not know.

This is turning out to be a long post… More Later.

Hi, Nice pics. Enjoy the beast. It sure has super road presence and how about the FE and other performance parameters. Do update. Will follow this thread closely.

Hopefully they havent used this for TD - Demo/TD Safari 2.2's are separate & marked.

Its raining 2.2s in here. Congrats on the purchase! Do keep us updated and let us know if any of those 'speculations' are even remotely right.

I got an update from my dealer when I was in Cochin - they've delivered over 45 so far and are yet to face a single issue even though they had been sent a retrofit pack at launch. Very different from the 3.0, he says - with the 3.0 there were a series of minor issues that required retrofits within days of launch, but this one seems to be holding up well.

Beautiful color. Think abt how the Savannah backdrop would look against this car. Its during times like this I wish I was rich rather than good looking.

I like the colour! Very much gels with the beast's character.
Full marks on your selection.

Thanks

Thanks all for the kind words.

BUSA - No money left for alloys. Was planning to buy the LX stretched my budget to the EX.

First on the list is to update the ICE - some JBL speakers, a good amp, bass tube the works. The ICE sucks.

The only things I could afford:

3M sun film
Art Leather seat covers
Phillips Crystal Vision Lamps
Bosch horn (similar to the the Octi's horn)
Silicon Reverse Camera (a big help)

I have booked a Cycus Grey EX 4*2. Agreed to my better half's selection of colour as a give in since she was not very hot for such a big beast.
I should be getting the vehicle by Saturday - 8.12.07 unless the dealer delays the registration (Saturday and Sunday are holidays for RTO).

On the subject of use as TD vehicles I too have a niggling suspicion. I have therefore been following up closely with the dealer and keeping tabs since the vehicle arrived at the dealer.
