Re: Toyota Innova 2.5, 35,000 km EDIT - Now updated to 85,000 kms

We are in the lookout for a new driver. A candidate came yesterday morning & I took him for a "test". Within 15 mins of his test, this was the result -

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5, 35,000 km EDIT - Now updated to 85,000 kms

Gave my car for its 90,000 service yesterday. Other issues were:

1) Car was emitting a lot of thick black smoke. although we got the PUC certificate, we wanted to get this rectified.

Madhuban toyota said its a common issue with many innovas. I agree. Its the second time our car is going to the A.S.S. for the same reason.

2) The dent on the front guard. They said they will repair it for 8k. We asked them to proceed but they called later to say it cannot be repaired. (We had purchased this from the same toyota dealer). So it was left at that.

The total bill for servicing & smoke issue was Rs. 13927/-.

Instead of writing everything, I am attaching a scanned copy of the bill -

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5, 35,000 km EDIT - Now updated to 85,000 kms

Went to Carnation & they quoted Rs. 8k to repair the guard that costs 6k!

Went to a local garage to get the guard removed (and replaced by a new one) but the garage owner confidently said he can repair it for 2k.

We gave him a green signal & he indeed did it in 2k & 24 hours. Now the guard looks as new!!!

Imagine, for a job worth 2k, I was about to pay 8k to Carnation or A.S.S.! Carnation guys went to the extent of saying only a "specialist" can do this job since it is fibre & they need to call a "specialist" from DC to do this.... Bah!

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5, 35,000 km EDIT - Now updated to 85,000 kms

My Innova has a starting trouble now. Every time we turn the key, a 'tuck' sounds comes from the bonnet. after 4-5 attempts, sometimes more, the vehicle finally starts. It does not seem to be a battery issue & has something to do with the starter motor.

Sent the car to the A.S.S. today. SA claims the starter motor is indeed problematic & is quoting 8-9k for the job.

These days the innova is burning a big hole in our pocket. time to let it go, i suppose.

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5, 35,000 km EDIT - Now updated to 85,000 kms

Hi Raj:
I was just going through your previous thread. There is an item in the bill that says flatly "Engine black smoke"!! They haven't specified what they did for that. That particular item looked suspicious...

Is that inspection charges for the same?

re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

The bills I have attached in post # 62 is for the same complaint. Look at the second scan to see what they have changed for that. My car was emitting a lot of black smoke. Also, acceleration & refinement had reduced.

So all the issues you have mentioned have been rectified after the service? Any idea what was the reason for all these?

And I think, it's always better to get the work done from some local A$$ after the warranty period. A reasonably good A$$ should take care of all issues. At least that's what I plan to do for my Swift after 80K kms / 4 years.

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

I guess the ECU reprogramming is all what they must have done for the black smoke complaint. The rest must be a rip-off.

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

Starter motor is unavailable with Toyota A.S.S., they have ordered for the part. However, I will get back the car only day after tomorrow. The car cannot be mobilized, so it is basically lying in the A.S.S. now.

The thing is, we dont easily trust any local garages. We are afraid of shoddy work quality & non-genuine spares.

I will click a pic & share, as soon as the car comes from the A.S.S.

I had asked them to do the ECU reprogamming first. It dint help. Then I asked them to clean/change the filters, even that dint help. that is when I gave them the green signal to go ahead with the rest.

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

My Innova is just a few kms short of touching the 1 Lac mark on its odo now. No complaints from the vehicle apart from some rattling, which can be because of our new careless driver & bad roads.

Since this is his birthday month (6th!), his present was - 3M detailing (interior & exterior). Some pics :

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

1,00,000 kms service update :

I was given an appointment of 10:10 am. My driver reached the venue at 9:45 am. There was a big queue of cars outside the A.S.S. gate. He joined the queue but when his turn came at 9:55 am, he was not allowed to go inside. He was told that his timing is 10:10 am and he will have to wait for 15 mins outside.

Later, when the car was inside, the work started on the car at 11:30 am as per my driver. I was sent an SMS that the car would be ready to be picked up at 4:55 pm (!!!).

I spoke to the SE and told him that I want to get wheel balancing and alignment done. He said, since I have aftermarket Yokahama tyres (stock specifications), they cannot do it.

When my driver reached the A.S.S. at 5:30 pm to pick the car, the car was still not ready. I asked my driver to give the phone to the SE. He told me that he called me several times because my car had some other work. I did not receive any call from them. He told me that the steering inner ball joint has some play and the LHS front wheel bearing is making a noise and both these would cost me 8k. But for this, I will have to change the tyres first. WHAT???

I asked him to leave it alone. He also told me that the engine timing belt needs to be changed as it has a minor cut but that can run for another 10k. Also there is a minor coolant leakage from the water pump.

Service bills :

Labour charges -

1,00,000 kms service - Rs. 1084
Engine comp degreasing - Rs. 854
Ventilator foaming and disinfection - Rs. 790

Part Charges -

Fluid washer - Rs. 59 (59 bucks for water? Do they fill it with Bisleri ?!!)
Gasket, oil pan drain - Rs. 35
Oil filter - Rs. 378
Engine oil - Rs. 1828

I am not sure why they did not change the fuel filter.

Total Bill - Rs. 5028/-

Re: Toyota Innova 2.5 EDIT - Now touching a Lakh kms

So in case of toyota, when your tires wear out, you have to get them changed from the dealership?
I think after 40-50K kms everyone would have aftermarket tires.

Atleast that is what is this dealership expects.

The same is true for other manufacturers such as Ford as well.
I will need to recheck how it is for the Scorpio.
