Fiat Petra D ELX : 55,000 km Review

I had got a Fiat Petra D ELX for around 7.2 on road(2004). I wanted to get the Accent CRDI but that had a huge waiting list at that time( 2004) hence i had to opt for the Petra D and no regrets whatsoever. I have clocked 55,000km till date but have not found any maintenance problem in this vehicle.
The 1.9 l engine is great , though i miss the turbo engine in it. The initial
response of the vehicle is ok. Ride Quality and Handling is great! Gearbox is good. I take it on highways once in a week.

I am getting 14km/litre in city driving with A/c and on highways i easily get 17-18km/litre .

Fiat would have sold more nos. of this vehicle if:

* Better After Sales & Service
* Upgraded the Interiors
* Turbo Diesel

Minor Problems I have faced till date :

* Sometimes horn does not work
* Shifting to 5th gear is a problem at time
* Rear seats not very comfy( no thigh support)

Im planning to keep this beauty till next year and exchange it either for the
Fiat Linea D or the New Honda City .

Thats very good car with decent FE, excellant build quality and great ride but I do agree about back seat not comfy.

Enjoy your ride!

Ravi.

Small review, but good points covered! You seem to be getting good FE with it. Are you running stock 55/60w bulbs or 90/100w and above for your headlights? I've seen one Petra with 110/140w and the beam spread on the road was just tooo good!

The reason for your horn not working at times must be because of a loose connect or its time for the horn to get a tune-up.

Ride quality, I agree, another BHPian has 205/50 R15 tyres & alloys and says ride quality and comfort have not reduced too much.

Exchanging this Fiat sedan for a newer Fiat sedan would be just great!
