51 years to be precious. Car was originally registered in Jamshedpur, Bihar. I got that registration changed in Calcutta sometime during late 80s. Car came to Bangalore in 1991 and I paid LTT, obtained my NOC from Calcutta and got Bangalore registration.

For cars more than 15years you need a fitness certificate right.

Have you done anything on that yet or it has not been 15years since registered here.

Renewed fitness certificate happened four months ago.

I know I have to do that. My car should go for painting and few small works. I thought I'll do it after that.

Amazing how the Amby is able to hold her own in the the company of the expensive E class. The glossy black paint, Alloys that match the grille, chromed door mirrors and the green tinted glass all add to the Amby's character giving her the road presence here to match the modern Benz.
That is certainly one very well maintained Mark II raviShankar - thanks for the pic.

Of course the tall grass the composition of the snap and ambient lighting do their bit to hide the high ground clearence and not so tidy tuck under of the Amby body's lower extremities.

40 years and going strong

Our Amby 1970 is in the process of getting a new paint work. All original - no modification - same engine going strong. Single ownership. My father purchased it. He passed away last year at the age of 91. I am continuing to use the faithful amby. Want to put in an electronic ignition - eureka multi point. Also want to pursue RTO for LPG retrofitment. heard that post 75 vehicles only are approved. Any info on this?

Nice to see you are restoring the car.

I think endorsement is legally not possible for old model cars. When you fit a new engine (along with bill from HM),Your vehicle can be endorsed.

Post some of the pictures of your car.Interior and Exterior.

Great to see a thread of Ambassador lovers. The great car lives on despite all odds.
Here is a 1973 azure blue Ambassador Mark II, with its original paint. The original brown sunmica-aluminium plate dash is a very rare sight these days.

msbalaji nice of you to take up the restoration of your dad's 40 year old car. Wish you all success. As for LPG fitment Maharashtra has more stringent laws. Your state laws will be applicable for the LPG fitment.

@ Rudra Sir,
Car is amazing, hope you would make this thread more interesting with constant updates. Have a friend who has a similar Amby (MYQ-XX) registration model. It was a gift from the Mysore Royal Family (MYQ = Mysore Queen). Will try to post some snaps as they too have maintained it very well and send it over.
Would be keen to stop you over when i see this car the next time. Proud to see such good examples.

re: HM Ambassador - At 45th year. Reincarnation process in progress.

It's nice to finally see someone who's as passionate (or maybe more) about an old Amby as I am.

We've had the car I drive in my family since 1960 and I inherited it in the late 90's. Stuck in a Trekker engine (much to my displeasure but the oldies in the family had too much of a say back then) and then last year, junked it and put in a 1.8 Isuzu.

I completely love what you have done with your car and while I take great pride in mine, it's nowhere close to the work that has gone into yours. Would love to trade notes on how to make mine better, if that's okay with you.

Was a joy going through your thread and would love to see some more pics.

Cheers,

G

PS : This, Sirs, is my pride and joy

I used to love the Mark-3 look. But the first gen grille in your snap makes me drool. Nice.
