Ok, this guy takes his own time to do his work. He's a stickler for quality.
And that's the main reason why my Amby has gone to him. My main two PR contacts (as I'm in Mumbai now) Jaggu and Shubz are also very busy with their work. I'm going to Bangalore next week and surely update here about progress if any.

Dada this is amazing passion and restoration work.

Looking at all the rust around the body it must be so much of painful hard work. Re engineering the car looks like a serious challenge to make her road worthy.

The work force at the garage looks minimal. No wonder it has taken so long.

Just two Q's:

1. What is the likely date of completion?
2. Costs?

Watching this thread.

1. Frankly, I've no clue. After Shubz's visit and Jaggu is going there on Sunday, I'll hopefully have some idea. I'm going to Bangalore next week too. Car went there on 25th of March last year. So much so, I told Gopal (the main guy) that let's have a party on 25th March this year and post that you can continue with your work.

2. This is a sensitive area. Gopal is normally 30-40% more expensive that any regular workshop. I'm ready to pay him that as I want my Amby back the way I had anticipated. He'll do that too and I'm pretty sure about it. I can comfortably say that this will be the one and only Amby in this country with proper stance and presence.
It's a big statement to make I know. But it'll be done.

If can predict right, I'll end up spending close to 3.5 lacs at the end of the day.

Question. Is it worth spending that amount for an Amby which is 52 years old?

Answer. Yes, because it's beyond any logic. I bought the car decades ago with 20 thousand rupees when my income was little more than a 1000/- a month.
Yes, it'll live with me as long as I can. I'll make it happen.

Not very surprising with the time-frame, Any work done with a certain amount of quality and finesse will surely take time, also need to understand that Gopal sir does not work on ONE SINGLE Car at a time. Money being spent..! thats subjective, so lets not speculate and comment.

In any restoration Time is Money.

From whatever updates here in the thread, i would presume September -2012 the car should come out with Flying colors

Oh boy, what an emotional thread and what a fantastic car. Hats off to you for still sticking to it. I always used to wonder whose cars are those that appear at the top of the pages everytime it loads...well came to know one now. And guess what...when I hit the reply button, your very Ambassador appeared

Everything here...the emotions, the car, the effort...simply priceless! Hope she stays forever.

Sir, I met you at Rhyme & Rhythm a few weeks ago when I was getting the ICE done for my Honda City. I hadn't come across this thread then. I wish I get to see your loved car one day.

Re: HM Ambassador - At 45th year. Reincarnation process in progress.

I love ambassadors and specifically got one from the old city in Hyderabad 3 months ago for my wedding. My now wife was furious initially, and then she just liked all the romance. We had some friends from the UK and they were talking about its similarity to the Morris Motors Limited's Morris Oxford! They are a 'beauty' PERIOD.

This is the most emotional thread ever and Sir I hope you get your car done soon! Keep us updated.

Dear Rudra,

That was an awesome writeup, really nostalgic. it bought back memories of the Amby that my grandfather owned, it was a off white mark4, and boy it toured across the country way back in the 1980's without any niggles.
