someone tell me the route from Hyd to Pune.

Seriously, the Safari is actually easier to drive in most traffic situations compared to a regular hatch or sedan. let me give an example.

last week, my wife took the truck out alone for the first time and was a bit apprehensive, since she is used to driving an accent or a baleno.

when she came back home after a 55 km round trip, I was quite curious to know her experience. she said that the safari was amazing to drive. within the first few KMs, she realised that she had to honk lesser than normal, and indicabs and autos were simply moving over without her even asking for wayclap:. the only trouble she had was with the clutch being a bit harder compared to her other cars, but she got used to that within the first couple of kms.

Deadly combination!

To those who know the Pune-Mumbai route, consider the following benchmark. The sharp right-angle turn at the end of the Expressway towards Pune can be taken at ~100 kmph in my Santro, even while overtaking another vehicle. Also consider the Santro's lane-cutting abilities and ability to make the tightest of overtakes, both at high speeds. I have done the 174 kms from Hadapsar, Pune to Sion Hospital, Mumbai, via Katraj, in a personal best time of 2 hrs, 5 mins (avg. speed ~84 kmph).

If anybody still wants to take me on in a Safari, he is welcome to Pune.

Did almost the same distance in 150min two weeks back sitting on a sofa :p

:Shockked: Go a bit easy on the pedal mate! After all its a Santro... I drive one too, and I dont attempt high-speed lane changes and fast turns. Perhaps better tyres help here. I am on stock tyres. 120-130 on straights is ok, but cornering at 100+ is a little scary.

This is on stock-size (155/70-13) Turanza ER-60 tyres, inflated to 36 psi (set cold, at about 8-00 AM). And I do have 5J alloy wheels which give the car a wider track, by almost 2 inches, due to low offset. With stock S322 tubed tyres and steel rims, there was a lot of squealing even at ~80 kmph on the same turn. Now there is no tyre squeal, but I still don't want to take it above 80 because I want to preserve my suspension and steering components. I also use Speed 97, which, in my view, marginally improves the pickup.

Potenza may be OK for your modded Xing, but mine is an unmodded old Santro (1-lt). The 175 mm width plus grippy nature of Potenza will reduce top speed and pickup in my car, although the grip will be awesome (in dry conditions at least). I don't want to lose too much at the top end.

Thanks for your concern. I don't want to hijack jkdas's thread, but here are some brief tips, if you want better highway performance from your Santro.

Pay a *lot* of attention to your tyres/wheels (alignment/balancing). Tyre pressures to be set *accurately* and when tyres are cold; for better high-speed performance and tyre life, overinflate tyres (by upto ~5 psi) if your roads are good enough. Your steel rims should be in good condition with no bends. I personally recommend that you go for high-quality stock-size tubeless tyres and if you can afford it, 5J alloys (with correct specs). This combination will give you great handling, at the cost of some ride comfort, and you will soon lose your squeamishness about cornering. Although for better suspension/steering/tyre life as well as safety, it is better that you don't corner too hard.

Apart from this, use some premium petrol like Speed and regularly service your car at an authorized workshop, especially if you plan to do a lot of highway driving. Sticking to the recommended maintenance schedule will keep your car reliable and ever so eager to be pushed on the highway.

Tell me about it. Now I end up driving my wife's santro (hate it) more often than the dicor.. She takes it everywhere.. She even prefers it over the santro as no one makes way for a santro like what they do when a Safari is approaching.
She also feels much safer in the safari..

Guys! Always remember that whatever you all try, no car in the world will be able to beat a Santro. Especially in handling while on stock size tires.
This has been repeatedly debated here and was always proved SUCCESSFULLY by our very own Santro specialist of the forum. So, guys! Please chill and let's help Jk pimp up his ride.

Otherwise, I too will be soon forced to buy/hire a Safari and go to Pune for the RUN OVER ceremony.

Tyre upgraded planned soon JK? My brother put on Michelin Synchrones and is mighty might impressed with them. My $0.2.

And wider alloys (5J), which you left out. If you have wider rims on the same tyres, you get a wider contact patch (=better grip+better braking), but less sidewall deformation as compared to wider tyres. So your handling improves, but ride comfort comes down. Read about it, e.g. in the carbibles website.
And it has been repeatedly documented in this forum by yourself that you are a Hyundai-hater.
Why this irrational hatred for such a fine car? And why this impotent rage? Do come over to Pune. I will respectfully make way for your Safari, by moving well ahead of it and disappearing out of your sight. To keep it a fair contest, I will give you a 10-minute start in a Pune-Mumbai run.

All that rks mentioned in the beginning of this 'debate' was that Santro would be much easier to maneouvre in traffic than a Safari. And look at where this statement has led to.

To give all of you your due, one should may be buy both a Safari (for highways) and a Santro (for city).
