i own a 3 ltr safari.i have a strange feeling that system d is not working for me.earlier when i used to use it i had starting problems in the morning.due to some reason i stopped using it.the engine became more noisy, was not smooth in running and started giving black smoke BUT there was no starting problem.
now i have again switched back to system d.engine runs much smoother now but the starting problem is BACK.i think its bcoz of the system d

Met the BEAST today - no I am not talking about JK here!

Ripped her through some very narrow, twisty, and SANDY interior Cherthala roads!! You should have seen it - there was sand EVERYWHERE!

Amazing vehicle - its like lounging in your favourite sofa - And I absolutely loved the way everyone gave way - felt like royalty!!!

And yes - saw the famous "RED-no-no-NO-its MAROON" mats as well! Went well with the biege interiors I thought!

Odo @ 7250 Kms

Two months and 7250 Kilometers.

Mileage : 10-11.5kmpl .
10 when its just 3rd and 4th gear and when you lead traffic on highway. 11-11.5 in city with AC 100%.

Engine: The krr noise is there from 1800-2100 rpm. Noticed that its only in 3rd and its just for 2000-2100 rpm when in 4th.

Interiors: Because its beige, I am worried and hence its 100% AC full time and hence I guess the interiors are still neat.

Rattle: A bit which I guess is coz I play the music tad loud and it caused some plastic to rattle within the door.

There is a chirpy sound due to either tail gate or co-driver seat when its not used.

Will give it for oil change and to fix the sound later this week.

Oil change @ 7400Kms

Odo @ 7410

Gave my Safari for oil change and to check the engine noise.

I was charged , 2530Rs in total . The split up:

Part no: 254718130115 Assembly Oil Filter: 161.78Rs
Part No: 62120601615 Lamp WSW 12V 5W: 41.78Rs
Part No: OILEMS1000 Diesel Oil CH4 15W 40 EXXON MOBIL SUPER 1000TM, 7.7L: 1270Rs
Part No: BG105 BG Quick Clean Engine Flush , 674Rs (.325L)

The number plate illumination bulb costs just 6rs if you buy from Tata spares shop. I had oen with me but didnt know how to put it. The service guy found that bulb kaput and changed it for me! emm, Impressed.

I drove Safari with a supervisor with me as I wanted the engine noise sorted. He was hearing this for first time in a Safari. He said he has heard similar sound in Dicor Indica/Indigo. Later on service engg or so asked me to bring the Safari next week so that they can swap with another ECU and check, as the Supervisor thinks the sound is louder than normal.

Please keep us updated on the noise front.

Though I am not so sure as to whether a ECU change will do the trick.

There are too many Safaris with the noise.

What is a oen, please ? Is it a type of bulb ?

I think the number plate bulb is a capless bulb.

Hi,

> Part No: BG105 BG Quick Clean Engine Flush , 674Rs (.325L)

I am sure the above was extra.

> Part No: 62120601615 Lamp WSW 12V 5W: 41.78Rs

Which bulb is the above?

I had to change only one rear bulb in my Safari during its life with me.

Rear number plate one. And I wanted them to use the flush. Seems they use it by default these days.

CAn someone comment on the oil used? Part No: OILEMS1000 Diesel Oil CH4 15W 40 EXXON MOBIL SUPER 1000TM, 7.7L: 1270Rs

If you had asked for it, fine. Is it really needed?

They have charged 41 odd for a bulb that costs 6 in tata motor spare part shop?

15w40hp engine oil - hp 5.50 @ 151.88 835.34
279018130106 oil filter indigo 1 @ 149.14

The above was the items put in my Marina in its last service @ 40000kms about 10 days back. Your oil at 165 is just Rs 13 per litre costlier. Plus your oil filter at 161.78Rs is 12.64 more.

What is the oil change interval? Mine had a oil change every 8000kms and a checkup at 4000kms.

Oil used is of correct specification but the flush could have been avoided till 15-20k running.
