yes the car is a beauty, really lucky tht she is mine. the car has done around 53k,its running on bridgestone potenza er60's 195/60/14 . its giving me an avg of 12 with mixed driving i.e sedate and occational red lining lol: cant resist an empty SAFE stretch . neways wat is the ideling rpm for a vtec coz i feel mine idels low .

Hi Karthik,

If you notice your tacho carefully, there is a broader white mark just above the mark which shows "0" rpm.

The broader mark indicates 500rpm.

A stock vtec should Idle between 800-1000 rpm. This might just drop down to 700rpm's max. But no matter what it will never die down even if it idles at 500rpm.

Early morning or cold starts the engine will revv upto 1000~1200 rpm and start dropping and settle down to around that 800rpm mark.

You have a good car there! Its in a immaculate condition! Enjoy life beyond 7000rpm!:D

Cheers
Shrey

PS: @riju: Yes this is the car I was talking about!

Wicked car! Is very clean for a '01 Vtec. Congratulations and drive safe. If you do want to mod her, I highly recommend a set of Greddy headers. They are expensive (17K) but well worth the price.

well guys i got my front windsheild buffed . now its as good as new . still has a few scratches here and there but my night time visibility has vastly improved .changed wiper blades to bosch and they rock !

Welcome to Vtec gang, try to get the Greddy headers as mentioned by GTO they are awesome. So guys any plans of Bangalore Vtec meet? If so please add me...

Hey speedfreak.. that's a very well maintained car.
Has the car been repainted ?

I got the wind shield buffed at a workshop near the jaynagar bus terminal. its near the maruti service station, costed me 1.5k and glass looks like new

Another one goes down at the altar of VTEC. Congrats Karthik enjoy the car, will try to meet up when I'm in Bangalore next.

P.S. Try getting a spin in Wolf's VTEC now. You'll then be tempted beyond reason to mod yours. :D

Neat. Really neat looking car.
It is always such a nice feeling to see a car kept so well even after like 6-7 years.

Even I have heard that wolf does the gear shift very well, have sent a PM on when I can meet him, just waiting for his reply.. I think we all need to get-together to know about each others VTEC's.

Hi Vinay,

yeah bro! you need to see it in person to beleive it. He shifts like we probably would shift if we had a paddle shifter.

Have been trying to ape him from a long time..:Frustrati just doesnt happen! looks like he was born to do those shiftslol:

Cheers

guys any precautions when cleaning the engine bay with pressure wash ? do i have to cover the ecu ? btw where is the ecu ?

shrey-dude car idleing hovers around 700 and 800. any ways i know vetc's cam has 2 lobes. soo say if i rev up to 6 in second the high profile cam works. soo how long will it take to revert back to the normal cam ? i was wondering in the city conditions in order to get max mileage i have to keep the revs to 4 max. any higher will shift to the high lift cam .

Hi Karthik,

like you mentioned, our vtec has a single cam with 2 diffrent profile lobes. This vtec lobe is activated by oil pressure when your revvs go past 4200rpm. There is a solenoid which detects the oil pressure and hence the lobe is engaged. It does not take time to switch to vtec and come back to the lower profile.

Yes, for optimum economy stay below 4k and for even better do shifts at around 2.5k to 3k.

Anyway, on the highway in 5th gear at 4000rpm you will be doing 140kmph..so you have speed with economy.

Here is a link showing you how the vtec works

YouTube - How VTEC works

the red lobes are the ones that are engaged till 4k and the blue is the one that is engaged the moment you revv past 4.2k.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Shrey

PS: why shift at 6k, when you can go all the way to 7.1 or 7.4 in some cases. Bro enjoy life at 7000+rpm. Not many stock cars in india can do that:D
