Guys,

Work done presently on the SS80 gearbox, replaced all oil seals, a good thorough wash and a diesel flush, now the gearbox seems to look almost new from the inside. But its actually not easy fitting a SS80 gearbox onto the SB308's. Lots of thread tapping to be done to do the fitting. Well almost after 24 hrs of extensive research over the 2 gearboxes we've found that the SS80 gear box is way tooo much different from the SB308's gearbox. I wanted it since i loved the way my friends SS80 gearbox behaved when i drove it.

The top gear is different and the gear ratio's are just a wee bit different, This might be the first time anyone's trying this combo, hope it comes out clean.

But the older gearbox also is been taken care of, all new bearings gone into it, will keep it as a back up for future useage. The 5-speed gearbox is now going back to scrap yard from where it came from, since it does not fit into my 1997 M-800.

MODS : Is it possible to merge the above link thread with this present thread.
It would be apt for the long term ownership. Please.

OK guys,

Finally done.

Now the 1997 M-800 has a Japanese SS80 closed ration gear box. Tooo tough to fit it on this car, there's sea change in the gearbox design in India. Phew....

But somehow we managed and now the M-800 is running like a mad monkey.

I'am happy presently.

Long time since i updated this thread.

After the goof-up with Bimal -Whitefield Bangalore, my car developed cracks on the top and few bubbles on the sides, including a few dents on the body.

Now the car has gone to Mysore- to a dear friend of Mine, who owns an Authorsed Service Centre running for TATA's - SUSON AUTO He has the Best facility (Paint Booth)

So in simple words, the car is undergoing a Full fledged restoration again

And i hope this time, i will be able to get it back to Originality, one final time.

On why i chose Mysore, inspite of having my set of tinkers and painters.

Well, a long story cut short. 7 restorations in parallel, and no time for my car.

And my friend there is passionate about cars and i am damn well assured of the best quality for my favourite car.

Pavan, I understand your attachment to this car! I have a car like this will never ever sell her. Only mine is a little older than yours

How much is this paint job going to cost you?

Currently the car has clocked 80K kms after the engine overhaul.

FE with FFE is approx 18kmpl in city with A/C and on the recent Bangalore Mysore trip, It seems to have consumed too less fuel maybe i would have got 23 kmpl.

I am not sure regarding the painting charges, Left it to my friend at Mysore.

I could have got it done with my painter here for a cost of 8K, but with so many other projects running around, i cannot block him with my car.

More than the costs, i want to get that exact shade and a clean finish.

Hoping things will turn out well this time.
