Sorry, that was a typo, I meant over 35k. My point was, its only the shockers which are excluded beyond 35k, the rest should be covered under the extended warranty.

I doubt the tie rods are covered!

The running boards are the first to take a hit over serious obstacles.

The left side board was bent out of shape and cracked beneath at Bidadi as the Safari sat royally on a rock. It had to be pushed to the side freeing it from the rock to continue on the trail. c10's friend standing on the board for about 100m later brought it back to shape.

The right side board looks like an appalam (papad for some) after Pearl Valley, Anekal. It was badly damaged until I stood on it and jumped up & down to bring it back to shape. Until I find an alternate solution for the boards, they will remain. Lost both LHS mud flaps during the attempted rescue of sreerajunnithan's MM550.

The unevenly worn out RHS front tyre is now at the LHS rear - this tyre has developed a small crack on the worn out outer tread after Pearl Valley. The front tyre wear is even now after the tie rod was replaced.

Lots of scratches on the sides with all the massaging it has received at Sakleshpura, Ramanagara / Bidadi and Pearl Valley, Anekal. As long as the metal is not exposed, I guess its OK.

44000 km on the clock - no other issues.

45K km service done on Saturday at Prerana OMR Bangalore. Decided to give it there since it was the 45K km service, which usually is nothing more than a general check-up and a good wash. Plus, this place is reasonably close to my workplace.

Clutch pedal was squeaking a little - this was the only complaint. The SA tried hard to get me to agree to fix the broken running boards - I said nothing doing, let them be broken.

Thippagondanahalli on Sunday - what it did to the Safari:

LHS hub caps lost - both front and rear
RHS mudflaps lost - rear, front is hanging on for dear life
Cladding on fenders - ripped out on both sides near the rear of the front wheels
Running boards - RHS was smashed some more, LHS weld was cleanly ripped out at the front, the LHS running board is now a useless appendage
LHS rear window exterior bottom beading - lost

Scratches galore - the gent who washes my vehicles in Chennai was aghast, but being the miracle worker that he is, the vehicle looks super again

If all this was not enough, somebody has stolen the spare wheel's plastic cover in the wee hours of Monday. I reached home at ~1:30 am and the cleaner gent came in at 5:00 am and found the cover missing.

Touching 46000 km on the clock - no other issues.

OMG, after all those "bali" this one is royal "bali". Too bad. I guess this just have a belt sort fo thing to hold on to the wheel right?

In lighter vein, May be someone would have taken it to have a cover for the recent rain?

Or to be used as a coracle in chennai floods

50K service done at 47K on Friday in anticipation of long trip ahead - to honour the warranty and preventive maintenance. Quick drive to Puttaparthi (AP) and back on Saturday (~350 km) - all good.

Took the truck out for a spin & happened to cross 50000 km on the Agra bypass on Saturday.

January 2007 Tata Safari 3.0 DiCOR EX 4x4 Running Report-img_05922.jpg

A wee bit more underthigh support in the front seats would be good.

53.5K on the clock - all good

55K service done last week. One wheel bearing & suspension bushes were changed. Differential & gear oils were changed (due only at 60K but got them changed anyway). Shahnawaz & Vijay told me the LSD was not working at TG Halli - decided to get the oils changed at 55K.

My invoices will be higher than normal owing to preventive maintenance. I would rather pay more and replace something in doubt than be stranded somewhere.

Edit: will post specific details later tonight.

BTW, truck completed 2 years of ownership on Saturday with an odo reading of ~55K. When the Safari was delivered, my Indica read ~75.5K on the odo, it read ~95.5K on Saturday - that's a total of 75000 km in 2 years on 2 Tatas.

A comparison of how the Indica has fared in terms of distance over the years:
1st year ~17.4K
2nd year ~34.5K
3rd year ~57K
4th year ~77.3K
5th year ~85.3K
Indica will complete 6 years on March 29th.

Safari:
1st year ~27K
2nd year ~55K
