It's also a matter of spending a few hundreds instead of a few thousands if you take my way

Depends on what needs to be repaired. In my case, the shaft was losing play. Mechanic tells me had I brought it immediately, he would have repaired it in 200 bucks.

A big dig in the pocket I know and the other thing is part availability. Mechanic is on a hunting spree and lets hope he gives me some positive news today.

Yes, the fan is about Rs 8000 here in Bombay. Some parts are still expensive. It was available till last month at the dealership here. The Tata-Fiat dealership here doens't have spare parts problems as far as I've seen.

I just finished talking to my mechanic. He claims that fan motor alone can be worked upon. A few members in PUG have also claimed the same. There is no update on cost though.

Will keep posted.

Alright! Here's the update

The fan motor was the main culprit. But it did not die alone. It took along the fan and most of its assembly with it. Don't ask me how but the complete assembly was worked upon. I should thank my stars that there was a scrap Sienna weekend lying around from which we took the parts. Only the fan motor was brought new. Yes it was indeed Ford Ikon 1.6's motor and it costed 2K. Lohith, are you listening?

Pic 1 - This whole set was replaced
Pic 2 - Crack in one of the components of the assembly
Pic 3 - More cracks, although invisible
Pic 4 - Heat coil sensor was also replaced

Thanks and will surely update. There's another motor of Korean make which is also equally good. I forgot the name.

As I said in the previous post, it was not as simple as just the fan motor. So folks, request you to show it to the mechanic ASAP if you encounter strange noise in the fan assembly or if the temperature needle goes beyond the half way mark. Its very difficult to predict what the motor takes along with it during its last stages.

The total damage for the fan assembly was 4K including the motor. I was lucky enough to find a lying Sienna around from where we could procure the parts.

Also got the servicing done. Regular oil and filter change, fluid top ups and the washing stuff. This was about 2K including labour. The car now rides like a charm. Makes you forget the cost damage done earlier. Precisely why one never gets tired of it . Just Beautiful!

@Jayanth,

Where did you get all these work done? My Fan motor Assembly is also making some noise when I keep the speed above 2 mark, when I showed it to the mechanic, he said not to worry!!! just wanted to know if I can get a quick check up done

Ravi,

Where else? Our friend Venkatesh

What exactly is the sound like? Is it uneven metal interface kind or just a loud noise? If it is a loud noise akin to the normal fan noise, no issue, it sometimes happens.

The uneven noise could be because of a simple issue like a lose bearing or as complex as my issue. Bearing issue can be solved in a few hundred bucks where as an issue like mine would take anything beyond the stated costs below PROVIDED the parts are available.

@ Ravi - are you talking about the in-cabin fan? didn't get when you mentioned that the fan assembly makes sound if you keep the speed above 2 mark? do you mean above 2k rpm?

I think he means the speed level of the fan. 1, 2 levels are fine but 3 and 4 are creating the noise.

Right Ravi?

Yes sir, you got it.

@planet_Rocker,
It does make some kinda metallic sound if I keep the fan speed above 2, I did ask the electrician from Venkatesh's Garage and he said not to worry and live with it!! since to replace this will cost me 7K
