It hasn't been done yet. Spoke to customer engineer from TML on my last CEP. I had already dropped an email before- so, engineer was aware of my case. He admitted that it is an issue with "most" VX units. He has referred this to design center and will call me back when he gets an update from them. Its been about a week or so... I am waiting for him to come back.

Just back after getting the IRVM replaced. First impressions-

1. New IRVM is about 1 cm bigger in w x h.
2. LCD panel is also bigger than the old one.
3. LCD takes about a couple of seconds to light up after engaging reverse gear. Previous one was instant. Looks like DSP chip and bigger LCD takes more time?
4. No hissing on any FM 93.5, 94.3 etc .

Attaching few pics below. It was a 15 minute job to put new one. Looks like new Safaris should already be having this bigger IRVM, according to the installer.

Cheers,
-BJ

Got my IRVM changed yesterday. The hissing has dissapeared, but unlucky me the LCD screen is the same size as the one I already had.

Thorns and foliage jutting from plantations on the road dividers have inflicted few hairline injuries on her skin. Looks like fast lane driving is injurious to the pretty skin of my truck :(

Btw, on my last trip out of town, she reached top speed of 156 km/h on expressway. There was still some juice left and had I continued with the pedal, she would have scaled the documented max 160 km/h too

Tata motors insurance (TMI)

First insurance renewal is due in about 10 days time. I have received a letter (pic attached) from "Tata Motors Insurance". They have tie-ups with United India, National Insurance, Royal Sundaram and ICICI Lombard. Per the letter they are offering 2 years complimentary gold club membership. No price/commercial terms are mentioned in the letter and I am advised to contact my dealer.

Anyone has any idea/experience with TMI. Is it worth pursuing?

15-Feb-2010 completed 1 year .

Current Odo: ~8410 kms.
Last service done: 8377 kms.
Last service bill: Rs. -111/- (they refunded me cash). Geo Tata

Pressing issues: none

Niggles:

1. Pilot door switch does not work, intermittently. Will be replaced. not in stock.

2. A squeaky plastic rattle from rear LHS seat/door, inside cabin, on humps and bad roads. Exact source unknown. TASS is unable to fix this somehow. Looks like it needs a DIY session.

That's a nice pic! Did you go with TATA insurance or some other?

thanks unni. I continued with my last insurer. TMI guys called me a day after I had already paid the renewal premium.

However, I had a chat with my dealer regarding this. Per her, it is a new initiative from Tata and she didn't know enough finer details. She sought more time to get the details and hinted that if I go for TMI, the renewal premium would probably be more than what I am getting from existing insurer. Hence, continued with the existing one.

Btw, I did negotiate extra 500/- (I think 2%) discount for Anti theft device fitted (OEM) with Safari VX. It was not considered in the previous year's insurance premium.

Looks like I am going through some Vahan Yog (bad period with vehicles). First, the safari in the middle of last month got nose fractured.

My Tata Safari 4x4. EDIT: Sold after 11 years-19022010.jpg

and now, yesterday, WagonR had its tail light broken.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1769446-post17.html

None of these were my mistakes .

The chrome garnish 0n lower part of the bumper (above sump guard) costs 3200/- while whole bumper costs ~4300/- (+ painting extra). I was thinking about bullbar/nudge guards too- but don't quite like the looks. I am in a dilemma now what to do?

Current status: just got the LHS fog light set properly and (DIY) m-seal + brush touchup on the fracture. Looking for ideas.

Yes, this is a Garmin Nuvi 760 (now discontinued), picked up on my last business trip to USA for about $170/-. I am running a 2009 q4 Garmin India City Navigator Map on it. Combination of this map + Wikimapia/google has been working for me perfectly. If some interesting place is not already on the Garmin map, I look that up on wikimapia/google and feed the coordinates into Garmin and hit the road. So far working great.

Meanwhile, removed the Alipne HU and secured the antenna cable better, and connected the iPod cable too. Radio reception has improved. Waiting for my iPod to arrive.
