Hey paragsachania! This is impressive man, and might I add how well kept your Wagon R is This thread brings back fond memories too. I had a 2002 Wagon R Vxi, which was sold in 2008. I'm sure it would have been up and about and been reliably serving us if we'd decided to keep it to this day. I wish you many more miles with your Tall Boy!
Cheers!

My uncle in my hometown (Belur) with his 9Y11M "old" WagonR that has clocked nearly 230,000 Km on the Odo. He regularly keeps shuttling to Bangalore (220 Km), Hassan (36 Km), Chikmagalur (27 Km), Mangalore (156 Km) and Shimoga (126 Km).

This is WagonR Duo and has faced zero trouble with the car.

Not to forget mentioning the fact that he is in his early 70s (don't go by the pic) and one of the first drivers in our family, an extremely safe one at that watching whom most others including self have learnt to drive carefully.

I am more than sure that in coming months, this will overtake my WagonR easily.

re: My Maruti Wagon-R F10D: 16 years, 258,000 kms, makes way for the Baleno!

Business as usual is normal for the tallboy.

It hit the 250,000 Km milestone on last Saturday and I couldn't click at the right moment because I never realised

Apart from the usual, last month wifey complained of grinding noise intermittently and disproportionate to engine RPMs or vehicle speed.

Found out the issue with the cooling fan that was the culprit which was noisy at second speed (higher).

Took it to my FNG after confirming the part availability and upon removing it we found the fan unit had a play and small marks on the shroud.

Replaced the fan and everything is back to normal. This was the stock fan that had done duty for 250K Km.

Few images of the Fan and Shroud assembly.

Hey,
Had a quick question. Does the FNG you visited cater to all brands or is it only Maruti? Also you have an amazing set of cars, both are reliable and robust.
Cheers

This thread has not been updated since July 2019. By now the car must have crossed 2.75 Lakh KMs? May be very few Wagon Rs have touched such a high mileage.

Would be really fun and intuitive to read a detailed update on this soon. Many of us learnt driving on the Wagon and quite a few regret selling it for a better bigger car.

Sorry, I missed this entirely. The FNG is multi-brand and hence caters to all manufacturers.

Honesty, it runs strictly 18 Km per day on an average as my better half drives to work. Apart from this, local runs to the mall or groceries.

Captured this image this morning after reading your post:

And of course, the usual pose with its companion who's almost at 1.9L Km now.

There is nothing specific in terms of update. There is nothing that I expect to fail anywhere soon. The punny Torque at low end of the F10D engine still brings a smile each time I take him out for a spin. The size and practicality is another aspect that you can squeeze it in the tightest spots and park it too.

The new K12 WagonR is a good spiritual successor to the old F10D. Didn't quite like the last K10 generation though.

The K12 still lacks the low end punch. A simple ramp test where you almost come to dead stop to zero and then move again while remaining in 2nd gear will prove it. We did it recently.

However, the K12 returns max bang for bucks compared to the lousy K10 which feels so dead at low speeds.

re: My Maruti Wagon-R F10D: 16 years, 258,000 kms, makes way for the Baleno!

Usual runs continue as I am using both the cars regularly. Although the lock down has resulted in very limited usage, the Tallboy surpassed the 255,000Km mark few days before.

My Maruti Wagon-R F10D: 16 years, 258,000 kms, makes way for the Baleno!-img_20200529_110715.jpg
Nothing much to update. The car underwent a periodic service 2 weeks before lockdown.

This time, I requested for checking and adjusting tappet valve clearance since it was quite some time I had got this done. Also, on idle I could hear that distinct clatter due to excessive clearance. The job was done and boy-oh-boy.... The difference after that with the initial pick up changed remarkably and idle sounded even more smoother.

The way F10D takes on my apartment ramp in 2nd Gear always brings a smile on my face. There is a friend's K10 WagonR too but it is impossible to get this out of the basement in 2nd gear unless you slip and clutch heavily. So love the low end grunt of this beautiful engine. This one shall remain a keeper!

Also realised, in the month of March this year, the WagonR completed 14 years of fuss-free ownership. Thanks to lockdown that I never realised this despite of renewing the insurance in Feb.

Wonderful !!!

Looks like your Tallboy is headed to the Suzuki Hall of Fame !!!

After I set the tappet clearances on my Padmini long back in 2000, I could feel the huge difference in power and a kmpl drop in FE ( I was able to take off faster than a Zen); so, with Tallboy tappets adjusted, I can imagine the grin on your face.

Thank you vigsom.

Your reference to Padmini reminds me to post about a short drive the Tallboy had a privilege to be part of with a pair of Padminis belonging to funkykar and arun1100 three weeks before

re: My Maruti Wagon-R F10D: 16 years, 258,000 kms, makes way for the Baleno!

Hey man,
Hope your WagonR is chugging along just fine. Your thread has been of great help for me. I managed to go through the whole thread of yours right from the start and it was insightful.

I'm glad to announce that I'm now an owner of a 2005 WagonR LXI. This car was bought to replace my 8-year old Nano. Many may find this move stupid, but for me the WagonR, despite the age feels like an upgrade from my Nano. It's a perfect city car IMO and city runs have been easy for me in this car. The WagonR has almost twice as much the displacement and power as my Nano and the brakes are a lot better; proper lateral upgrade in every other department than my outgoing car.

I'd picked the car from BHPian bhuvan_prasad almost a month ago. The car is pretty much sorted mechanically save for the rear wheel bearings which are on its way out. Will keep pinging you once in a while for any help that I might need with the car in the near future

Regards,
Varun

We formally inducted Parags Waggy as a classic car . Its close to obtaining its first Fitness certificate. It surely will have a great following in future as a classic/vintage car.

Hi Parag,

Recently, while changing the spark plugs on my Swift Dzire 2008 model, which has done 36000 kms till date I noticed that there was oil on one of the spark plug thread, (first one from the passenger side) the ceramic part was completely dry and there was no oil on the plug boot as well, I also inspected the plug well and it was bone dry as well.

The first thing which occurred to me was the tappet cover gasket and the spark plug gasket, but then I thought that if the oil is leaking from spark plug gasket then it should leave traces on rubber boot and spark plug well, which were absolutely dry in my case. Is it the gasket or something else??

Thanks

Congratulations on this practical pick Varun! A well maintained F10D will not let you down with its bare mimimal mechanicals and will keep chugging like there is no tomorrow. You will also begin to love its low end response and appreciate how it is immensely helpful for those runs within the city for your daily errands.

Glad to be helpful for any such queries and wish you a nigglefree ownership!!

And who else but someone who can give a fitting reply for anything related to fitness (certificate) for cars. Damn, I can't believe I will be doing this to one of my vehicles next year, something that you continue to do almost every 2-3 months!!! And yes, Waggy will be part of these classic drives although I really want to take it on the highway since it has been really long too!

Not wanting to look at the extremes like weak compression or beyond, I would start inspecting the valve cover gasket first. You could however, try swapping the plug with one in another cylinder and check after few days too. That for sure will indicate if it is weaker compression in one of the cylinders.
