Yotesh,

What OBDII scanner do you use ?
Also, share the phone software used for the same.

BTW, where in Ludhiana do you live? I go down there about once in 1-2 months on work. Maybe we could meet up.
Hey, Sorry for late reply.
Yes, sometimes the car is driven sometimes around by the driver and a few family members. Though after the Turbo incident, I religiously practice the idling rule, and even instructed everyone to do the same.
I live in Kitchlu Nagar, Ludhiana. You can definitely pm me anytime you're here.

I used this ELM327 bluetooth scanner I sourced cheaply from ebay.com
There is this OBD Car Doctor, and also Torque applications available on the Play Store. Most of the times they could just give you the Error Code, and a quick Google search would reveal the real cause.

Just wanted to know if you have replaced the clutch and timing belt (scheduled at 80k). Do keep us updated.

Hi there. The car is at 95K kms currently, another few months to go for the 5 digit mark. The clutch is running fine. Perhaps the longevity comes from the fact that I'm the solo driver. Will get a check up done once I cross the 1L mark.

AFAIK, the Verna comes with a timing chain, not belt. Generally you don't need to change it over the life of the engine.

It comes with a Timing belt which is recommended to be replaced at 60,000 km (Not 80k as written in my previous post). My reference is the Hyundai service manual and quick reference guide.

While Added Flavor gets his own reference, here's a reference from Kpzen's own thread about timing chain replacement. Different car, same engine.

Jokes apart, yes I know the Verna Service manual talks about replacing the timing belt replacement. Even I was foxed some years back when I enquired with HASS. But apparently whoever wrote the manual borrowed some ideas from the Accent CRDI's manual - a car which actually had a timing belt. The Verna CRDI very much uses a timing chain.

Take a look at the engine's workshop manual to decide for yourself, whether it has a timing belt or chain - or even two:
http://www.matrix-autoclub.ru/file/EMA.pdf

The 3-cylinder CRDi engine did indeed have a timing belt.

Verna CRDi has timing chain.
My car's old timing chain is lying somewhere at home, will try to find it.

Re: My Predator - Ebony Black Hyundai Verna CRDI SX ABS - Update at 5.5 years, 88,000

Mr. predator is busy with his ICE setup. Timing chain? who cares
Coming back to the topic, Verna diesel has *timing chain* which is scheduled for a replacement @ 80K kms. However, we can continue without replacing till the engine starts making some odd noises. It will easily go more than 1.2 lakh (that's what my mechanic says)

OTOH, mine is 2009 make with 84k. The clutch is stock and i think will last long, there is some hardness developed in the recent times and it judders a bit after some 100 kms drive.

It has been confirmed from multiple sources already that it's a Timing chain. But anyway, here you go! This is from the QRG

Lots of wrong info there. (Don't follow everything, read around for facts)
CRDi comes with synthetic Transaxle oil which doesn't need replacement at 30k kms.

Lets get a few things straight, little boy. I do not appreciate random comments like the one above. If you followed my thread from the start, you would have seen that the mechanical maintenance on my car verges on fanatic. Good driving practices ensure few things go wrong, and the absolutely essential replacements are done ahead of their time, at the first sign of trouble.

As for the timing chain issue, I have already clarified to the enquirer in my previous post. If I really didn't care, I wouldn't have done an enquiry with HASS now, would I? If you still think ICE is all I care about, come to Delhi and drive Predator (with the stereo off!) to see for yourself.

So please just stick to the topic. Your inputs are welcome, sarcasm is not.

Cool it sir!

Now what is the odometer reading buddy? I am waiting for the magical figure mark picture to be seen on the thread and title. I am hooked onto the thread even more.

As a preventive maintenance why not change the timing chain at the 1 lakh service even if it is good?

Anurag.

I'm sorry Anurag, but isn't this a bit of ridiculous advice? Something that will last the life of an engine should be changed as a preventive maintenance measure just because some misinformed members think and write so? Predatorwheelz, his ASS and his FNG are all supposed to be less knowledgeable than Google specialists on Team-BHP?
