My i-10 returned me 15 KMPL, 95% AC on, 50:50 - City:Highway traffic. Moderate driving 80-90 kmph. BP normal fuel
i10 - kappa sportz- done 1100kms
reported a mileage of 10.83kmpl earlier. today i checked on another tankful. it showed 9.8kmpl
drive is largelywithin city but NOT PEAK HOURS. 100% ac
i think this FE is quite low for a 1.2l
my OHC when it was on stock tyres used to return similar figures. so this is definetly POOR for a "modern" 1.2l engine
lets see how the mileage improves after the 1st service due anytime soon
My 2 months old Hyundai i10 Magna 1.2 Kappa, is starting to disappoint me in terms of FE.
I have just completed about 550 kms on the i10 as I'm a newbie and most of the driving has been in city limits with Air-Con at speed 2.
Last time I tanked her 35L belly up, the oddo was showing 396km, now the oddo shows 544km but the fuel indicator is at the half way mark. That translates to 17.5L for 148 Kms = 8.45 KmpL!!
And BTW, I drive most of the time in 3rd gear at 40-50 kmph. The first service was done at 330 kms or, due to the 'within 2 months' clause.
What can I do to improve my FE?
Please, help me out Team-BHPians, as I have read on this forum that 12-16 KmpL is average for the i10, w/ Air-Con!
For maximum FE you should be in 5th by 50 kmph - the mileage will improve by about 20% as you clock the k.m - I remember my first tank gave me some similar dismal figures ~ 10 kmpl or so - now I'm happily getting 15 odd :)
Also, I think half a tank is more like 15 Litres of fuel (Although this is also guesswork) - so thats 10 Kmpl, seems kind of alright for a brand new (read less than 2500 on the odo) i10.
Just a note:
Using Xtrapremium in i10 and A-Star is giving a slightly better fuel economy. Apart from that engine is feeling more responsive and smoother. Have been using regular fuel till last week.

You're in the wong gear for that speed. Shift to 4th. Above 50 you can shift to 5th. Do this and you will get more FE.

But the manual says that the tank capacity of the i10 is 35L! Or is it read as 30L full tank and 5L reserve?

According to you which which out of BP, HP IndianOil is best for i10 and will there be any decrease in FE and performance if I switch over to Normal Petrol? BTW, now I'm using BP Speed Petrol.
Sankar, since you are from Trivandrum, which are the good (read no adulteration) bunks at either of these places, Peroorkada, Mannanthala, Vellayambalam, Vazhayila, Kesavadasapuram?

Tanks take in more fuel than what is stated in the manual. Fill till auto cuto off and you're good.

I never saw any gains with Speed petrol, Xtrapremium was found to be better. Switch over from Speed to XP and see if there is any difference.

At Vellayambalam you have two civil supplies run petrol bunks, Indian Oil and BP, both are good. On Kowdiar road you have BP bunk. These three are reliable.
There's a BS4 article in this month's Autocar, read it; especially the sub section about BS4 fuels. In Kerala it seems regular petrol is still 88 octane.

I haven't seen any BP bunk on Kowdiar Road yet. Did you mean the Club HP Bunk, on the Kowdiar-Vellayambalam Road?

Don't know how you can miss the BP bunk next to CCD.
Hyundai is advertising 19.81 kmpl ARAI mileage for i10 in the papers. They are not mentioning whether its 1.1 or 1.2 though!

I too saw the ad in the local newspaper this morning!
The best FE that I have ever heard personally for an i10 1.2 was 16.5 Kmpl, from my uncle!! 19.8 must be most probably for 1.1 on the highway!!

19.8 kmpl is for the 1.2 Kappa, for the 1.1 erlx, it is ~17 kmpl.
I read that you are ripping your engine (changing gears at high rpm). By the time I cross 50 kmph in my Xing, I am ready to engage the overdrive (5th) gear. You ought to change the gears in right RPM range. I am sure on the highway you can easily surpass the ARAI figures too :thumbs up, as I normally get ~19 kmpl on the highways (more than ARAI figures).

Me too - the only time i took my i10 on the highway, I got close to 19 kmpl.
P.S - Mine is an AT box.
Yes, my i-10 gives 19 KMPL on highways even if I am above 90-100 km/hr, mostly. But I strictly follow Hyundai's guidelines in their save fuel booklet. I am sure it works.
