Well, you could have gone for the 14" Alloys alongwith the 14" tyres now.

Alloys like Aura are quite strong and tough & made for Indian conditions, the probability for a bent alloy is very low compared to steel rims.

Agree with you on both. As I said, it was hardly a good idea financially to change tyres through half their life. Adding alloys would have made it financially unviable at this stage.

Even the "low" probability of a bent alloy scares me because of the rarity of 98 PCD alloy wheels. I guess I will simply put in 15" Linea alloys the next time around like Ravveendra.

Sorry for saying that I "knew" him without having spoken to him / PMed him about it.

Internet friendship may not be a valid form of acquaintance for Star Wheels. And yes, I would have got the free alignment / balancing for new tyres anyways, so no name dropping for free service.

But GD sir is quite famous for the Scorpio with fog lamps on top. .

Don't worry. He will not mind if you slip him some of his favorite liquids.

OT: Have we met at any of the meets ?

Yokohama A-drives 185/70/R13 on stock rims 5 nos. @ Rs 3,000 per tyre
Buyback price for 4 used tyres: Rs 500 per tyre
Buyback price for unused spare: Rs 1,800
Alignment and Balancing free at Star Wheels, Sec 14, Gurgaon. (Sorry, GD sir, for me telling those chaps that I knew you!)

Results:
a. Finally the engine is louder than the tyres at any speeds above 40 kph
b. The already good ride has improved even further
c. Cornering is much better
d. Confidence at triple digit speeds is way better.

I guess the decider was when I read kpzen doing 200 kph on his Getz with Yokohama A-drives. That's when I decided they would be "safe" comfort tyres.
@architect
Any specific reason for going with Yokohoma.
I read many recommendations in the forum for Michelin XM1 185/R13
I had enquired about michelin and it's roughly 3700 per tyre

What is the average no. of kms that a set of tyres on a Palio would last? In the Palio user manual the recommended tyre rotation method is to interchange front left with rear left and front right with rear right preserving the direction of rotation. Is it that the spare wheel should spend its lifetime without regular duty on the road?

Tyres should last for at least 40K.
Ideally all 5 tyres should be used equally.

We haven't met, unless you were there at a meet at Polka (Kailash Colony Market) in May 2008.

Michelin XM1+ was preferred, but its not available for 13" rims, only XM1 is available. Yokohamas were better VFM at Rs 3,000/-

Unless you plan to trade your tyres halfway, where you will get nearly full value for the unused spare, like I did.

@architect
i recently enquired about aura alloys for R14
I got best price of around 20K for 5.
Model no: H21455
I really like E01455 but doesn't look like it's available...with palio options are less
Not sure whether it's the best price in delhi

Also plan to upgrade to Michelin XM1+ Tyres at 3750 each
Still making up my mind for expense of around 39K or just upgrade my tyres to michelin XM1 185/70 R13 costing around 3800 each

Btw how many times did you encounter a flat tyre in around 20K of your driving.
I had 2 flat tyres in the last 1500 Km.
Overall i had 4 times in 27.3K

You can look at Yokohama A-drives which is for about 3000 bucks each. Will reduce you budget by 4-5 k.

0 punctures. but I have driven my Pulsar for nearly 40 k kilometres in 4 years without any punctures either, so (touch wood) maybe I am luckier than you.

@architect
So i finally upgraded to Michelin 185/70 R13 at 3600 each
Exchanged 4 running tyres in all for 1200 and the spare tyre for 1800
so spent 15000 bucks in all
No alloys due to recession

Low Fuel Indicator Fuel reserve

Hi Palio MJD owners,

Once the Low Fuel Indicator goes on what is the reserve fuel left in the tank.

When low on Diesel during long drive it can calculate the range to nearest Fuel Pump,life saver depending on your mileage as well.

When I fill just after the yellow light going on, I manage to fill in 38-40 litres out of a full tank of 47 litres. So you should have 7-8 litres left (minimum). However I almost never let the tank reduce to less than half (reason: to avoid air pockets later).

This is what I do when I drive, no slowdown on bad patches. Due to that I had to change, front both lower arm, bal joint and shock absorber within 45K kms. But all these cost me only 16,000/-. There are total 3 incident where everybody else was driving at the speed of 20-30 KMPH on bad patch and I overtook them at the speed 60-70KMPH, I enjoy doing it
