In the times of Recession it is always good to extend the duration of running a car by a couple of years. The money saved now will fetch better returns tomorrow.

Hi manson,
Any updates? Did you go in for a new Scorp or a verna? Or better still, put 25000 more km on the current one?

Spot on bud, I almost did put another 25,000 kms over another year, but those were on new Scorpio SLE I purchased in May last year.
Lookup the following thread for a few details for some opening moves of the new Scorpio. Its a pity that I haven't found time to keep updating that thread after the last post, will get around doing that over the weekend.

Shishir, the 1.5L update would come around only sometime in 2014, but I'll try and keep updating the new thread as and when time permits.

manson,
Hey Manson,

I have a similar aged scorpio - black DX bought in Oct 2004. Its only done about 43,000 kms so far (more of a city commute car). I love its ride and respect on the unruly roads.

Question for you: last two services in Bangalore, have cost me roughly 10K each. What were the usual costs of service that you remember, at around the 45 K marks?

@Driver2000, nice to know this ! I have a 2004 Dec Scorpio DX, acquired last year with around 78 k on the Odo. I am very happy with my purchase so far.

My servicing bills are usually around 8.5 k. I had to recently replace the clutch plates for 10.5 k. I service my vehicle at Sireesh, Marathahalli.

Even though the ASC guys recommend servicing every 5k kms, I have decided to do the servicing once in 10k kms, thanks to the reminder from fellow BHPian Raj 5004 that the manuals indicate servicing once in 10k kms only

The 5k service is actually a checkup to check if everything is ok. It is there in my owner's manual.

But yes, since it is only a general check up, there is no harm in ignoring it if dont sense anything wrong with the vehicle.
