20,000 kms is the accepted norm for synthetic oil change but I have my own take and am following my own schedule for different vehicles.

The Blue Streak's engine oil was switched to synthetic at 10K on the odometer and will now be changed at 20K reading. Subsequent change will be at odo reading of 35K and then at every additional 15K kms covered. Do note that this is my own customized engine oil change schedule which is based on my usage for an individual vehicle taking in to account the kms run and the time elapsed between the oil changes & my take on our driving environs.

My Swift also runs on Mobil1 and the MSM has noted this down in their computer. The switch was made at 12000 kms odo reading and the history print out mentions the next change at 30000kms service. So for this one 20K Kms will be the norm between changes.

I know I am countering (well sort of) my own time table for the Cedia but then that is OK. Last week our Aveo's tappet cover packing leaked and oil (Shell Helix in this case) seeped out and covered a lot of stuff in the bay. This oil went in with the odo reading 26000 kms and now with the odometer reading @ 39000 kms the oil is still as good as new in terms of visocsity and the colour is not that bad either. In fact dirty oil means that it is doing what it is meant to do, I will be concerned if the oil were not to change colour after running a few thousand kilometers. The Aveo will be back from the shop later today and then wil get a supplementary feed of the Motul 8100 Xcess (250ml to 500ml). After this booster dose I have no intention of changing the oil in this vehicle till it reaches 56000 kilometers or is sold off which ever comes first. Here I will learn the effects of mixing two different makes and stretching the synthetic beyond the recommended 20K change interval. I already know that mixing will make absolutely no difference even if the oils are different grades.

As for the benefits well there was a sea change in the engine noise and vibrations for all of the vehicles. The engines run quieter and smoother and that is a good enough benefit for me to go for the extra spend.

I was told left front and left rear kits are available.
The price for the front kit is around Rs. 3000.
This includes two pins and a boot. The boot on my left side has got damaged.

I remember GC mentioned something about Axle boots and the quotes from A.S.S. for the same. Why are these rubber parts so expensive at A.S.S.?

Are the caliper pins for the rear different from the front ones?

Get Engine oil, oil filter, air filter and brake/clutch fluid changed. Also, throttle brody cleaning should cost you 3-400 from outside and about 800 from ASC.

When I asked about throttle body cleaning, they said it will be done as part of servicing and the cost of servicing is around Rs. 1000.

He mentioned that there are three scenarios out of which one requires a dashboard to be opened up to clean. The cost without opening the dashboard is Rs. 2500 (he said it includes gas fillup). Opening the dashboard will be more expensive.
But he has to see the car to confirm which scenario this falls under. He does not want to do it from the glove box area.

Get the pins from ASC and similar sized boots from outside, it wont matter if you have the similar size corollas boots or even indica's. it just needs to protect the pin from dust..

i know, damn 6k for 2 boots of one axle, I got them for 1.5k including labour. But the problem with axle is that its a moving part, once the dust makes its way into the boot , 90% your axle will need a rebuit (new cv joints) or change in near future.. I am still a bit afraid, if my axle goes at all, I not paying 45k to ASC to get a new one, I checked and saw a replacement part (rebuit one with 36k miles/3 years warranty) in parts bin for about 11k including tax and shipping from USA. Will get that if I need a replacement in future..

Paying 1500 for a Rs.200 (even if its excellent quality is like ). As I said ealier, get a similar one from outside that can protect the pin from dust..

I think so, the rear ones are smaller than the fronts..

You will be a lucky man if they do it at no additional cost..Just that they should open it and clean it rather then just getting the intake pipe off and cleaning only the throttle valve..

Too expensive, better pay 3.5k to ASC for complete job including new gas. In between, most fillups are just top ups, I have been told that the gas if not leaked doesnt make a difference whether new or old ?

Spoke to the other A.S.S. in Pune - I wanted to find the pricing of spares and labour.
It seems that spares' price has been revised and they are awaiting a new pricelist (everything including air filters are more expensive now). If this is true, then it may be due to the weak rupee.
I will get some update tomorrow when I visit one of the two A.S.S.

Some pricing updates:
1. Price of one fuse is around Rs. 70. I was shown a packet which contained two 10 A fuses. The price was Rs. 130.
I would assume that the average price is Rs. 70 per fuse.
The entire fuse box (which contains all the fuses that are in use is priced at Rs. 69,000). I think this is the price of the entire box located in the engine bay.

2. The caliper pins are different for front and rear. In fact all the four pins (front + rear) are all different. The price varies between Rs. 550 and Rs. 850 (approx.)
3. The cabin ac filter that Khoj mentioned is available for Rs. 2400 - I don't know how Khoj got it for Rs. 2100. @Khoj: Does that A.S.S. bargain?
4. Throttle body cleaning - Rs 3000. I said: no thank you.
5. Service cost is around Rs. 2500. Includes consumables and oil filter + labour. (I need to wait till I get actual bill)
6. The boot for caliper pin (the big boot/ bellow) is Rs. 1750 or so. Very expensive. I don't know how I would be able to source it elsewhere.
7. Heater core cleaning can be done by removing the plastic part below the wipers. The blower will require opening the dashboard.
Core cleaning is around Rs. 500 and blower cleaning is probably Rs. 2000 (I forgot the number).

The price on the box does say 2400/- but my total bill was 2100/- which includes taxes and a 10A fuse billed at Rs. 56/-

I did not ask for any discounts so this must be woven in to their billing s/w.

BTW did you see any 7.5A fuse in that packet or were these available with either of the service centres.

Also when you say the 'other' dealer you mean the one on BOM-BLR highway somewhere near Indira institue of Mgmt/Engg/Pharmacy/What else did we leave out ! lol

The store guy just showed me one packet since I was curious. That packet had only 2 x10 A fuses. I don't think they have a single packet with different ratings. I can check on the 7.5 A fuse when I go to collect my car if you are interested.
The other dealer is Pethkar Motors. They were supposed to revert back to me today with pricing of caliper pins but have not so far. Also they mentioned rates have been changed recently -which is incorrect as per the JW store guy, so I lost confidence in Pethkar. Also, normal service cost was estimated to be Rs. 3000 - Rs. 3500 which is high as per my estimates.

I have a feeling that your service center has lower rates for everything compared to the ones in Pune, considering the fuse is Rs. 56 as against Rs. 70 here in Pune.

Asian Motors is going to docs, I had an argument with the works manager Bhushan when I went to get the clockspring changed. As always I was standing with my car when the work was being carried out and despite the fact that he knows me for over 2.5 years, he still argued with me to go sit in customers lounge (bloody its not customer lounge but driver's lounge). At the end I was forced to end the discussion saying "Ja nahi jaata, jo kar sakta hai kar le.." (I wont go anywhere, do what ever you can do". And mind you when I did this, the workers were qute happy that I did it. May be they are fed up of new management.

The GM has changed 4 times in last 5 months and I personally had a word with the new GM and told him that I wil make sure that I dont visit Asian Motors and nor will the other two cars of the family. Although he said that he doesnt have any problem with me standing next to the car and sounded as if it does matter to him, I still expected a Sorry from Mr. Bhushan. I have already written to the customer care of Mitsubishi and Asian Motors and await their reply.

My Opinion: I know people there and can still get some respect and decent service. However, if you are to go there first time now. AVOID. you will probably regret your decision. Stick to Excel. In addition, they have the same old Motul and may not entertain your request for giving your own engine oil..

Thanks for the heads up but am sorry to learn of your tiff with these guys. Too bad for them they lost a customer for sure.

For the Cedia I will stick with Motul for the time being but will keep an eye out for the manufacturing date.

Khoj, there are two ways to reach excel motors and while both roads are broken, one is considerably shorter and better than the other. I don't quite know how to explain this but I will ask my driver and send you a pm.

Some more updates from today. Got a call from A.S.S saying that they put in caliper pins from their PDI car and checked for the noise - it is still there.
Apparently they have concluded that the carrier needs to be replaced. They have tried putting some packing material and tightening it, but the noise is still there, though it has reduced. I will need to check personally on the noise when I drive the car and see if there is any difference.
The cost of the carrier kit is Rs. 5400 for one side. Two sides will be Rs. 10800.
I was informed this kit includes the caliper pins, boots and other related items.

I need to check other options and then decide.
