Re: Scarlet Beast - Hyundai Elantra CRDi 72000. EDIT: Pete's Tuning Box Added

Does the placement of Hella lamps obstruct the flow of air to the radiator. Sorry if I sound paranoid. This is one reason why I am holding off the thought on adding Hellas. The stock light (though 2 pairs of head lights with 100 W each) illumination is bad, but the Fog lamp light spread is another story. Good to see your car in great condition. I went for the stock replacement of my tyres, but yeah 205/60 or 215/55 will give you better grip. I am struck for another 20000 Kms on the stock before I switch to a better tyres.

I get it , but the 215 width needs 6J width alloys. But the stock is 5.5J, is it recommeded to fit it. I read in another forum , that this size will touch the fender as the sidewall will bulge due to lesser width of the alloys.

Slightly blocks the air. But I drive mainly on the highways and mostly involve night journey, so i had to fit in the hellas for vision safety.

I too am running on 205/60 Conti CPC-2 for the last 10k KMS or so. The ride is good on dry conditions and pretty good on wet surfaces. But am not sure whether CPC-2 are still available as there were some stock issues with them.

Well. In our forum , there are mixed reviews on the CPC2, some feel that the sidewall is soft and prone to damage on Indian roads. Guess , choices are few for me - PP2 - if available or GIII or Apollo Accelere(last option). Yoko Advans are not available with the dealer here. Would be helpful if tyre gurus recommend something for me.

Re: Scarlet Beast - Hyundai Elantra CRDi 72000. EDIT: Pete's Tuning Box Added

Am in the same spot right now with my Elantra (GLS Petrol). Carhas done 74K Km and The rear Tires are worn out and need a change. And Front tires have some life left so can go for another 4-5K KM.

However, I am also inclined towards having 215/55 R15 instead of stock and will change all 4, if I get a decent deal. However, I have not been able to find out this size in the well known brands.. Don't want to spend a fortune on Tires.. have to be around 5K per Tire..

Could you guys suggest which brand has this size and if this is good for 5.5 J rims as mentioned by undead also in the previous post...

What about 195/65 R15 or 205/60 R15

195/60 - 117 (Stock)
195/65 - 126.75 (Alternative 2)
205/60 - 123 (Alternative 1)
215/55 - 118.25 (Preferred)

Undead -> Where did you get that Horizontal grill ? I have the one with vertical lines, and want to change that to the one similar to yours ? where can I find that ?

Cheers..

Since, the front tyres have about 5000kms of life left, i just bought a pair of BS RE88 - Used tires for Rs.1350(pair). After 5000 kms , i am planning to shift to 205/60R15 for slight increase in GC.

Horizontal Grill came with 1st Gen models in 2004. After 2005 , they changed to chrome grill. I like that vertical grill and wanted to change to it , but it will block my clamp fitting of auxillary lights.

Re: Scarlet Beast - Hyundai Elantra CRDi 72000. EDIT: Pete's Tuning Box Added

Still torn between the choice for tyre. 195/60R15 and 205/60R15 does not seem to be the most standard size around. Most of the manufactures have 195/65R15 and 205/65R15. :(... Found the following quotes so far from some dealers...

195/60R15
Goodyear - Assurance - 4800
Bridgestone - MY01 - 4900
MRF - ZV2K - 4300
Yoko - V550 - 4850

205/60R15
Apollo - Acelere - 4750
Yoko - V550 - 5850

do the above price look ok ??

How is Apollo Acelere 205/60R15 ? the price is much lower than Yoko. And I am inclined towards putting 205/60R15. Yoko is getting little out of budget as I will have to change all 5 in the single go :( ..

True. Not many options in 205/60. I mailed michelin for 205/60 PP2 , they said stock will be available according to the dealer only. Bridgestone GIII,michelin xm1+,primacy LC also avail in that size

I will check on these too...Will call some dealers today.. but as I will have to change all 5, so it will be a big blow on the pocket.. looking for the reasonable priced ones... aAny feedback on Apollo ?

Re: Scarlet Beast - Hyundai Elantra CRDi 72000. EDIT: Pete's Tuning Box Added

Finally I got the new shoes for my Elantra. I chose Yokohama V550 after reading a lot of reviews on Team-bhp.

Replaced Bridgestone MY01 195/60 R15 with Yoko V550 205/60 R15. 5 tires costed me 30K at 6K per tyre. 4 of these have manufacturing stamp of Feb 2011 and the 5th one is Dec 2010. I thought 2 months will not make any difference in that. All the tires say 'Made in Japan'. Do Yoko import all the tires from Japan only ?

Driving impression: Driven only 30KM after the replacement and that too in busy roads so not much of difference felt so far. A long drive on weekend is much needed now. I was scared to take the car on long drive particulary in night due to the old tires. However I have a lot of confidence in the car now with the new set of shoes. The previous set got punctured twice in last 2 weeks.

With the tires being little larger, it is filling the arches very nicely and the car is looking much better. There is no sign of these touching the body anywhere even on full turn of wheel.

Will post the Before/After pics later. need to transfer from camera to laptop.

Ah.. The review at the right time. I was planning for same. Do tell me whether you find any difference in the Ground Clearance if you happen to cross any usual speed breakers. 6000 per tire? Man that is costly than Michelin LC. Anything spl on this tire? Or tire prices have shoot up ?

The change in GC is very small around 6mm, so did not find any noticeable difference.. I was lucky enough to never scrap the under body even with the previous size with the speed breakers on my usual way of travel. but yes technically the GC has increased..

However there is a noticeable difference in the handling of the car... not sure if this is the effect of tires or just psychological the steering feels softer (even though I have gone wider) and the car has become very responsive to throttle ..

Last time I checked with the dealer in Pune he quoted me 5850 per tyre (~3 weeks back) however when I went to get these, he told me that Yoko has increased the price recently and now he can not give me for anything less that 6K per tyre.. he did not charge anything extra for the wheel balancing, valves, fitting etc..

the dealer was insisting on getting the Nitrogen also, however I resisted that for now as I wanted to know how much of the difference to the handling etc the tires alone make.. may go for nitrogen in future.. need to read a lot about that on Team-bhp forums )

Also I am very bad at bargaining so i may have paid a 100-200 bucks or so extra that other people may get waived off....

I did not check the Michelin so can not comment on the price.. I found very good reviews of DB V550 series tires on team-bhp and some more websites hence decided for these.. Apollo Acelere is one other option that I checked in this size and that was around 4850/- per tire..

Not sure how will 205/65 R15 will go with Elantra.. as I can see there is still a lot of space in the body to take on extra 6mm of 65 profile.. 205/65 is more commonly available with other tire manufactures.. 205/60 is not..however the OD change is more than the recommended 2-3% deviation from standard size.. but I faintly remember seeing one on service station in Hyderabad last year with 205/65 on stock rims..

Just fitted the Bridgestone RE88 for the front and keeping the Primacy LC in the rear till it wears off completely. Paid Rs.4850 per tire.

Seats have gone bad in terms of cushioning. So changed the fabric and added cushions with it. Work was done at Koyas, coimbatore. Members of tamilnadu must be well known of Koyas. Work was completed in a day.

Cost. Rs.14000.
Full fabric stitching with door pads and arm rest.

81000 kms

Both the Elantra and Getz havent been running much at all for the past 3 to 4 months. Had to start and run the vehicle idle for few mins every sunday. Due to the recent Motocross run i had with the Elantra , decided to service the vehicle.

Rodent problems were making me sick . Several wires have been damaged by the rodents and this was rectified in this service. A/c filter were filled with Poo and made a/c smell highly outrageous. Had to change the a/c filter as it was biten too. Front brake pads changed.

Apart from regular service , other items were

A/c filter Rs. 2099.30
Brake pad kit Rs .3355.81
Radiator Hose - Rs.307.91

Total bill including labour, VAT , ST came to Rs.12952

Just a pic from the motocross. Came 5th. Got a trophy.
