Looks like a "new" feature then!

Condor, recollect that my brother had done a wiring alteration to get this feature in his Sumo - but then, his vehicle was a early 2000 model or something.

Does this look like http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attach...989-large-.jpg ?

Warranty on mine was refused by BS India citing external damage. However, they measured the depth of crack and found it superficial and advised to continue using it. They have pro-rata warranty policy (4 years) and mine is almost two years old. Didn't have time and energy to pursue further. Using it as a spare now.

Looks like Bridgestone Dueler side wall suffers from this chronic problem?

BJ,

Mine is also superficial and was advised to run along with it after checking the damage depth. Mine is Michelin.

Just need to be careful when going off-road, not that I do too much of it anyway! :(

Some update after the recent trip to Athirapally.

Odo currently sits at ~21500kms.

The recent drive to Athirapally gave the worst mileage of just 12.1kmpl. Maybe it can be attributed to some spirited driving, long stretches of ghat section and most of it done at 2nd or 3rd gear alone. Apart from the Valparai ghat, the 80kms to Athirapally is thru some rough sections.

Even then, the drive back, through Palaghat and CBE also gave just 13.1kmpl. :(

Wanted to do a long trip this weekend, but got cancelled due to all of us catch a cold!

Current odo reading:

Tata Safari GX 4x4 Mineral Red | 98,000 km and counting | EDIT: Sold-imag0200.jpg

Yeah! Missed the 22222 mark by 10kms! The Mysore road traffic kept me busy!

Did a run to Thalassery over Friday and Saturday. Part of the journey was thru very bad roads. People traveling on the sector will know how bad it is. As other vehicles slowed down and took their time to slowly cross the pot holes, I was able to pass over the pot hole itself. Kind of risky, but thankfully nothing happened. And the bad roads were not restricted to just the highway, even the town roads were bad!

Expected good rains during travel, but as luck would have it, rain fell after I reached and before I started back. Absolutely no rain when I was driving!

And, the refueling gave a figure of 12.32kmpl. Low compared to what I am used to. The breakup of the KM's is, of the total ~600kms, ~250kms was within city here, and the rest on bad roads, no roads and ghat roads, also involving heavy acceleration. No use having a SUV and driving like a non-SUV.

I second that . Finally some mileage figures I can take comfort from. Just kidding. I think your patience gave in driving at such sedate pace.

My wifey who occasionally takes the driving seat in a highway always quips that speedo must be faulty when I point to her that she is driving at 100Kmph. She says it feels like it's doing 60Kmph and she is a self acclaimed sedate driver. So I can understand the effect of this addictive torque on the sedate drivers.

Me driving at those sedate speed on highways is due to few factors:
- risks of road surprises and with a larger vehicle risk of more on us. To think of it, I used to drive more crazier when I was with the Alto, even though this vehicle possesses better safety features! Might also be a sign of getting old!
- wonderful mileage!!!!
- Do away with unwanted stress

But on bad roads, I know that one part of the road, the very bad part, will be a no-man's land and it is all for me! And also, maintaining steady speed is not possible, hence drop in KMPL, so why no enjoy the torque!

Got a paid service done today at 23,000 kms.

Changed oil, oil filter, greased all joints, checked and cleaned brakes and also the air filter was cleaned.

Paid all of 2,759Rs. Add a 1,200Rs to it to get the actual bill; had got this amount as discount due to erroneous wheel alignment and balancing they charged me in the last service.

Work done and vehicle delivered in 1.5hrs. And I had said no to the offer to get the vehicle washed.

This is the best option, but do get the underbody washed when you get the time, thats the most unseen and neglected area.
