@HW, why don't you just tape and blind out that switch with a good quality tape/sticker and put a warning sign in a language of your choice "XX DANGER: 440volts-The car will explode if this switch is tampered". Guess this is what I would have done, no tampering with wiring

In the city, getting 11.5-12 kmpl.

On highways - driven like a sedan - ~17kmpl; driven like a SUV ~13kmpl. (with a/c)

The mileage figures are excellent. BHPian 'kaviprem' has a Safari 4x4 purchased from Concorde Motors. He is also getting 16-17KMPL on highways. That is a pretty good mileage for the 4x4 BULL(2.2L). My Vista TDi (1.4L), gives me 12.5KMPL in City & 17.5KMPL on highways. I have told my friend about these figures and said to go for Safari 4x2 instead of Scorpio mHawk, as the mileage is comparably good. Is it really necessary to go for a 4x4 instead of 4x2? Any advantages? The 4x4 carries approximately 75Kg extra weight due to the differential.

Any suggestions or opinion from you?

The 75kg extra due to the extra differential on a 4x4 does not seems to bother the 2.2 much. Infact, my 4x4 gives better mileage than most 4x2. So, weight is not a factor to be worried about in this 2 tonner.

As to the question of 4x4 or not, depends on how you plan to use it. I do beach drives and also mild off-roading, hence the wanted purchase of a 4x4. If you do not see much of yourself doing this, then 4x4 will not make sense. And do note that, even a 4x2 is very capable - just check ADC travelogues!

Sorry for bumping in here but the mileage is not vastly different between the two. I have extracted 15.05kmpl from Hariya and 14.5+ consistently with sedate driving.
The MHawk should give similar FE figures to the Safari, in similar usage conditions.
Just that while owners like me and HW drive sedately, most others rip these trucks around and end up getting lower FE figures.

Well - I dont know if I [kaviprem] mentioned about 16-17 KMPL on highway. However its definitely possible because while I drive @ the range 120 - 140, I get 14 KMPL. I am pretty sure, I would save some money on Diesel if I drive b/w 100 - 120

Even in the city drive, I maintain my beast in power-band of 2.0K - 2.6K RPM and I get close to 10. If I drive like HW around 1.5K - 2.0K, I think, I should be able to get 11+. Again, my stretch of Home-Office is one of the pathetic roads in Bangalore [OMR - Whitefield road].
What I heard from my colleague is that 2X2 [he has one] and 4X4 differ by ~1 KMPL though the 4X4 is driven in 2H mode. I think, it could be true.

Kavi: Cross 100kmph / ~2000 rpm, and the mileage is a goner.

And yes, most of my driving is not thru thick traffic.

On the same lines, I tried the HW way of driving from Cochin to Bangy. I got an EF of 15kmpl for the first time (With AC on) and took an hr and a half more to reach than the other way (bangy to cochin). Driving at 100kmph really kept me very cool all throughout and had I drove the car for longer hrs (4 hrs at a stretch). The car behaves well, braking becomes easier and there are only positives apart from the FE (I was stunned at 15kmpl obviously)!

@HW and Dev:

I AM STILL ALIVE. I am actually glad to be as I was stuck in the middle of a landslide recently for 8 days. Will update separately later!

HW: Are the chaps in Concorde Mysore road good? I just wanted to try them as I have been getting some issues wrt the hardening of clutch etc. May be it is time for me to update my thread which has been lying dormant for a long time now.

And as for the Concord road guys, yes they are. For the hardening of clutch, if the bleeding route didn't work, ask them to check the sensors.

Let me know when you are going down there.

And as for the driving; yes, those speeds are best for FE, no need to brake hard, allows enough time to predict the traffic ahead and modulate accordingly, you get less tensed and best of all, you enjoy the drive!

Vehicle has crossed 27,000kms as of today and is on its way from Palaghat to Madurai as of now.

It was parked within the compound wall of a apartment complex in Palaghat and someone decided to lighten the load on the vehicle - 2 hub caps lost. Fortunately, it seems nothing else is missing.

When I was, another issue noticed was that 4L was not engaging; only 4H. Not sure what the issue is. Will check it when I back.

I was just wondering how you can have the patience to extract 15-17 kpl from the Safari. I never could, its injustice to the Safari. See all those Safari ads, flying in the fores et al..
