The only other reason I got it back was because of the rare color combo that I have. As per TASS this combo is very rarely taken by people; makes it all the more difficult to be disposed of and easier to be spotted!
So the safest way for me would be to get the spare wheel cover painted mineral red and then be like Happywheels, color matching be damned
We can even accuse each other for flicking.

Saaar,
Congrats on getting back the wheel cover. We had a small scare yesterday when the wheel cover which we had removed for filling up the air was missing for a min or so. The guy was trying to put it back and we were hunting at all places !

I forgot to take the photos of the wiper. Will take it within this weekend and post it here. I remember it was some BA600: 450 per blade. Which is the safari-wiper thread? I couldn't find it anywhere.

The DIY is almost DONE. So Happywheels, you can start taking the order for the locks with your margins built in

Tejas,

There is a PDF in the thread about wipers, from Bosch, saying that for Safari the lenght required is 22" . But there was a post by JK saying that one should by buy 20" for Safari. Confused!

Do check and let me know. Rain guard is not going that great. Something wrong with the way I am applying it.

And heck, no rains right after the day I applied it!!!

Got the roof a/c replaced today under warranty.

They replaced the entire unit. Gas was bleeded and refilled to 900gms.

On testing, the vehicle got cooled very quickly. Need to test once again later in the evening.

As usual, the mechanics made a complete mess of the unit and the work area, but once work was done they called in a 3M guy to clean up the interiors. So all the current and some older dirts were cleared off.

Had asked the SA to check & fill air as I notice one tire has a visible low pressure. They have happily filled it to 35PSI. Will drive and check for the ride comfort and then alter.

And if it was a white cover - absolutely no way to recover.
Yeah, speaks for your taste, Red Mats, red Vehicle, red cover...

Filled HP normal diesel today on the way to lunch and the vehicle gave 12.57 kmpl. This is purely on city driving, with and without A/c; including one visit at TASS where the vehicle was running on idle for over 30 minutes with the a/c on. Not bad IMO.
Apart from this, had a issue of head light not working. Not both, but just the one on the left. Not a problem, but then, when I get home and switch on the headlight to check the issue, it will be working.
Took a good 40 minutes and checked the wiring and the fuse of the lights. They are working as they should, so far. Regardless, have got myself a extra kit of relay wiring and also the stock lights, just in case I face any problem during travel.
The weekend travels, tomorrow and one to Mangalore, are critical and the vehicle should be perfect. Tomorrow traveling with family and next weekend, doing a one-day trip to Mangalore, so I will be starting early and reaching back late - major requirement on headlights.
EDIT: Whats wrong here? The in-forum editor is clubbing my spaced out and formated post to one big paragraph; infact it is insering a single "p"tag to the entire text! Third attempt here to format properly.
EDIT 2: formated the text with my own "p"'s!!!

If in future you wish to replace them with normal bulbs make sure that the cover behind headlights are sealed properly because when the HID is installed they make a big hole in the cover which in case is not properly sealed will lead to dullness in your headlamp fog starts to accumulate on the glass of headlamp. The cover is also not available as a spare part it ships with the whole headlamp assembly.

Bang on Rahul. I have got the hole covered with M Seal even now. And by now its as hard as stone so theres no way any moisture is getting in from there.

Thanks for the pic's, Sid!

As for the HID's, after the trip over the weekend, I think I have found a good solution to my lighting problem : 100/130 Phillips. (Sudev will be cursing me for this!)

Not sure why, but I find these lights to be a big change over the previous 100/130's that I had. Looks like I got the duplicate ones before.

Drove thru rain, ghat and mist and the lights performed beautifully. And I also have found the head light leveler to be a great tool. Till now, did not even have a second look at it!

So, for now, alls good!

So, a 900kms round trip over the weekend. Made the mistake of driving some distance with the windows open and that seems to have been enough for them to start rattling; this is the front passenger side window.

Did Bangalore - Mangalore under 7 hrs. Was able to do this, even with strong mist at the Ghat due to a Innova that I used as a escort. KA-19 vehicle and that guy was driving like a charm, fast but not rash and with proper signaling. Kept 3 vehicle distance and followed his line from Sakleshpur till just before BC Road. Else it would have been a slow and cautioned drive taking more time.

Return journey was more relaxed at keeping speed at 80-100kmph and with good breaks in between. Started back at 5.30pm. Got diverted from a point at BC road, which took us into some off-roading tracks! Reached home at 2am.

Did a Bangalore - Palaghat - Trichy - Bangalore trip over last weekend.

The route taken to Palaghat was thru Bandipur, Gudalur and Nilambur. A beauty of a route! The road was great all the way, except for few patches from Nilambur to Wanoor. After that you hit the NH213, which is one hell of a road!

As for the vehicle, few irritants that are up are:
1. The front two doors have got something loosened up inside. This sound comes when the windows are not fully closed. Guess unrestricted run over bad roads with the windows open took its toll.

2. In similar lines, a metal rattling sound from under the dash! This is very irritating at times.

3. Did a floor cleaning and found out that damping is something that TATA does not know about! No wonder the whole vehicle resonates like a tuning fork at certain RPM's!

4. The gears have become slightly difficult to get engaged. This is true for 1st and reverse.

5. The Alpine audio units now hates all my CD's, infact all CD's. Throws a "Error" all the time. Guess its time to get it replaced under warranty.

6. The back number plate light has a loose contact. Goes into flickers mode once in a while and mostly is seen off!

Now for things that are good:
1. Did a good run in the ghat section, with the family in the middle row, and they were very comfortable.

2. Marriage function, so vehicle was loaded in some trips with 8 adults. The jumper seats are not meant to be sat on; best to fold them and let the people sit on the floor. Even with this, and the a/c running, the vehicle has no loss of power. Pulls really well.

3. A/c is a chiller even in the punishing Trichy sun.

4. Mileage achieved was ~12.5kmpl, which includes the long drive and multiple short shunts. Haven't checked for the mileage achieved for the last leg of the journey between Trichy and Bangalore. I tanked up at Trichy and currently have covered 375kms. Fuel meter is at slightly less than 3/4th. Am going to push it and see if I can do the 400kms run back to Palaghat over the weekend. Fingers crossed!

Other misc information:

Vehicle has done ~18750 kms so far.

The change to 100/130 really boosted confidence in night drives. Am able to drive most of the route just in low beam, since the throw and light is enough. This also gives me enough power to force some smart guys to switch to low beam, since flashing brings up both the beams.

Yet to fix and check the air checkers that I have procured from Pete's recently.

One of the read tires is showing a crack on the side wall. Need to get that sorted out after the Kerala run. Hope the side wall is strong enough not blast when driving!

Another point is that sometimes the engine feels rough, very rough. Not sure if just my imagination.

Yes, its a known factor. The Safari's rear most seat is just an eye wash to obtain the excise duty cut. Nevertheless, good mileage. But have you too seen a drop in mileage recently? I believe I have since the past few tanks using the Euro 4 fuel.

Any pics of your tire cut? How did it happen?
