+1 to that. I have Corolla H4 at 13 and Etios 2012 at 7.5. Etios bumper is at 2.3 and Corolla at 12K. Similar for other parts. My faux brown cladding on Corolla stereo has given way in some areas and it costs Rs. 13000. Keyless entry with remote another 13-14K. Have not bothered to get both replaced.

What you get in both cars (incl. Etios) is the certainty that there would be no mechanical failures on the road and total trouble free experience.

62,000 Kms update

Running has reduced drastically. The last service was done at 55K kms in 2014! That means in 15 months I had done barely 7,000kms. Thanks to not having a driver and the ease of Uber, the Altis is being used as a spare or standby car.

I wasn't too happy with the service done at Nandi last time around and wanted to go back to Ravindu. Thanks to a kind BHPian who knew the Ravindu guys, I got a call from Mr. Manjunath, the GM of service at Ravindu. He offered to come home, check the car and take it to the workshop for servicing.

Complaints:
1. Clutch shuddering on cold start.
2. Front suspension noise.
3. Sound from the rear brakes.

Most of the complaints were same as last time which meant they came back shortly after the service at Nandi.

I got the car back after 2 days, with all the problems resolved. Manjunath is a proper technical guy who kept me up to date on all the issues and what he did to fix them.

Final bill came to 9K which was not bad. However I was told the clutch would eventually need to be changed by the next service at 70K kms. The front struts were ok but might need to be replaced next service as well.

The car came back totally transformed. Pickup has improved thanks to the clutch setting and throttle body cleaning. The front sound has disappeared completely. Only small negative was the rear brakes have a spring sound which can be heard from outside. This is something new after the rear discs were skimmed on a lathe.

I also finally decided to get the car detailed to give it a refresh since it was nearing 7 years. Called up Nirmal from Keystone and he came home in his mobile detailing van. Thanks to the hard water spots, getting the car cleaned and prepped for detailing took an entire day. The second day was the actual detailing. 2 whole days of detailing for one car. The end result was worth the effort:

I am planning to consider buying a 7 year old Altis run 60,000km for the price of 3.5L. It has been converted to CNG recently and has 70%tyres left. The price looks very good for the car, wanted to with veterans and owners any apparent problem that might come up in an aged Altis?

While I know Toyota brand means reliability, still just confirming from your experience. I'm ready to buy and drive this car for the next 5 years if it gives annual maintenance around 10K. Thanks and keep suggestions coming.

I guess this is a very good price for Altis of 7 years with this mileage. You will not get the same in Bangalore for such price.

I bought a 9 year old Corolla (not Altis) last year and I don't think there is any apparent problems to be specifically looked into. But you should generally get it checked by any FNG for its condition and expected expenditure in the future course.

I am not aware of the likely problems on CNG part, let any owner comment on it.

Isn't 3.5 L a bit too sweet a deal? I would have expected a similar specced Altis to go for something around 5L at least. The older corollas are still holding on their resale values in the used car market. You can possibly get it evaluated at Toyota after sales and also have a detailed look at the service history.

There is no other problem per se with the car as such.

Can someone suggest if buying a CNG used vehicle is fine or I should scout for petrol and fix cng aftermarket. Thanks a ton.

I would strongly advice to buy a only petrol driven vehicle and then go in for CNG conversion. You can never be sure on a CNG fitted vehicle about the quality of fitting, care taken while driving on the alternate fuel and such things.

I recently bought a 2010 Altis petrol and then fitted the CNG. The car performs as desired.

Mine is a 2010 GL model which was at 28k when I bought it on 09.06.2016. The vehicle was kept amazingly well by the first owner and was run on petrol completely.

The final price was 5.9L +3k (changed the key to the flip one) + 25k(Insurance) + 18k(RTO Charges)

I converted it to CNG for roughly 37k. The odo stands at 31.5k and there are no issues as such post conversion to CNG. I got it serviced at 31k and the bill was 6k at the authorized center.

However, there has been one issue faced which might be related to the fuel pump. The car refuses to start intermittently. I have to get it diagnosed and find the source of the same soon!

I am presently driving a Tata Safari Dicor and looking to change to a Sedan. I came across a mint condition 2010 Toyota Corolla Altos 1.8 G petrol which has done just 12000km. Spoke to the owner personally and seems to be a genuine person. Planning to have a look at the service history, an extensive check by the mechanics and a couple of drives. I have few questions.

1. What are the differences in features between a 1.8 G and a 1.8 GL?

2. How much do you think I can shell out for this car if it turns out to be completely genuine?

3. I am actually looking for a Honda civic or a Chevy Cruze LTZ but came across this car. Never had a ride in a corolla before.
All I know is Toyota is known for its reliability and peace of mind ownership experience.

4. Okay lastly I want to ask you if I need to keep any points in mind to check particularly with the car.?

Not sure if this is still relevant, none-the-less:

1. Differences between G and GL: I own a G and IIRC GL had leather seats, xennon head-lamps and few other minor accessories.
2. You can check the used car prices in your region by doing a quick Google search.
3. You have to own a Toyota to feel the peace of mind. Corolla is a very good car which tends to spoil you.
   1. My car is over 6.5 years old, makes a yearly visit to the service center and other than that just runs. Use the pick-n-drop service, so, have not been to the service center in a long-time (other than battery change).
   2. The Corolla suspension is awesome. Now-a-days, I don't even slow down too much over rough roads.
   3. No rattles.
   4. Changed tyres six months back.
   5. Tyre pressure, I used to check bi-weekly in the first year of ownership, after that gave up as it stayed stable and now do that only if the tyre appears visibly deflated or before a road-trip (twice a year).
   6. Changed battery an year back. Toyota folks still tested the battery to ensure that it needs replacement. I was telling them to just go ahead and change.
   7. I wanted to change the car, however, test-drove the new Fortuner and didn't like the suspension. Liked the Camry, which is lovely, but, doesn't feel like an upgrade. Don't want to buy the Germans as they still have niggles.
   8. You will get bored with the car, but, it will still run well.
   9. You may miss some zing which the other two cars have, however, if reliability, comfort etc. are your main criteria, then those two do not even come close to a Corolla.
   10. Many more. Was talking to a senior Toyota person few years back, and he accepted that their Corolla customers are the most satisfied of the lot.
4. You will be able to find a used-card checklist on TBHP forums, please use that.

Just finished the 70K kms service at 68K kms. Sadly running has drastically reduced as the Altis is pretty much being used as a spare car thanks to dad not having a driver and him using Uber and Ola. I pretty much rotate between the Ecosport and Altis only to keep the Altis running.

I didn't have much problems to report. These were the issues that came up from last April:

1. Rear brakes were making a springy sound when pressed firmly.
2. Front suspension was rattling over sharp edges
3. Lumbar support motor wasn't working
4. Front RH headlight cracked due to a small incident

I knew the headlamp assembly wasn't cheap so coordinated with the service GM Manju. I had paid in advance and got the lamp ordered so the car wouldn't be waiting for part to arrive. Car was dropped to Ravindu Toyota Avalhalli branch on Saturday where Manju and Murali took over.

1. Rear brake pads were down to 2mm and would last not more than 2000kms. Got these replaced as I didn't want to wait till they were completely worn out. - Rs.8750!
2. Front suspension has a dust seal on top of the strut that had worn out. This was replaced. - Rs.300 for both sides. This has completely fixed the suspension rattle. I was thinking that suspension arm bushes were the issue and asked to change the bushes but it looks like it was this part that was causing the rattling.
3. Lumbar support wasnt working and the motor was found faulty. This is a 6K+ part!! Opted out for this as the lumbar switch is hardly used and it was stuck at my driving position. Will look for other alternatives.
4. Headlight replaced. Luckily all bulbs were working so only the assembly was replaced. Rs.30,000

Total bill was Rs.46,000 with 30K for headlight replacement, 9K for rear brake pads and 7K for the regular service.

Car feels perfect now and I don't see any visit or work required on the car for 2017 and probably even in 2018 since most PMS work was carried out.

If you guys look at the amount, it's not cheap. I've mentioned it before, parts that need to be changed are not cheap but they don't fail as often. The headlight housing price is atrocious in my book. I see no reason why that is 30 grand!!!

• The rear brake pads are 8K for a set of 4 from Toyota. What is shocking is Bosch sells compatible rear brake pads for the Altis for Rs.1,000!!! http://www.amazon.in/Bosch-F002H2384...=AT95IG9ONZD7S

• Then there's the xenon bulbs. The RHS HID bulb conked off and I got a shock when I found it was Rs.13,000 for just the bulb!

Ordered the exact same bulb from Amazon USA through member normally_crazy for a paltry USD $50 in comparison and did a DIY replacement of the bulb. Not easy and required moderate skill level to remove and fit the new bulb.

• One of the horns was also intermittent. I changed this myself to Hella windtone (Skoda type) horn. The horn didn't really need to be changed, could have tightened the screw and cleaned the contacts. I was just bored of the old sound and wanted to change something.

I keep dabbling with the thought of changing the car cause what we need is a small beater AT hatch rather than a luxury sedan like the corolla. But this car runs fine doesn't really burn a hole in the pocket in maintenance and will fetch very low resale. IT's pointless letting this car got for what it's worth. After checking out the new Honda City for 17 lakhs, you realize the value of the older cars especially ones like the Corolla. I paid 14.8L for this car in 2009 and now a City which felt nowhere close to this car in terms of build quality, fit finish and premium feel is 17+ lakhs. I maybe missing the sunroof and 6 airbags but the Corolla feels solid unlike the other japs and especially the Honda. Only thing I need to get is a good head unit with ipod and bluetooth connectivity and it will match or beat most of today's cars in features as well.

Could the headlight assembly be availble in the after market? I bought a tail light for my Civic from the spares shop for 1850. Same would have cost me min 4k at Honda.

30k for a headlight is insane. Shows Toyota is no better than Honda when it comes to spare parts pricing. Terrible mark up by both Japanese giants.
