I've identified the weird symbol that blips up on the lcd readout as an electrical glitch, lighting, to be specific. On checking i discovered the left indicator was blinking abnormally fast! Have to go and get that checked

In 2007 there was no Highline, therefore no fully loaded diesel as such, only a 320d. All the features like xenons, sunroof, iDrive etc were introduced in the diesels with the Highline which came later.



It does !! Regular as well as BSI, because that's assigned to your chassis VIN.

Well, there was a very sweet deal that was being offered on a 11k kms done 320D. It kind of swayed me for a while, but I am still going in for a new one. The corp edition makes buying a pre-owned one a tough choice considering the higher interest payments on used car loans.

The deal is in the 19L range (with no insurance)... the seller is upgrading to the 5-series and I have known the car since it was bought. The only trouble is that its a haryana registration, and I am in Delhi. He was being offered 20L by dealers, but he would like to sell to a direct party.

Anyways, the BMW guys are pretty cryptic about the transfer of BSI/Secure. Will quiz them when I see them over the weekend.

BTW, I discovered the lack of rear arm rest in the corp ed which is so silly.

Really. No rear arm rest in the Corp Ed? Whats with the Germans, even the Jetta doesnt have a rear armrest in the Trendline.

Nitronium - Hows your Beemer doing? Assuming you still driving it? Any other major issue you faced?

After going through the whole thread, I got a feeling that either German cars are really very high on maintenance (not a breaking news though) but 30k for a AC knob!

Anyone else faced such problems and such a high maintenance after 3 yrs? I am not sure but doubt that used car came with some changed cheap parts?

We sold her after 6 years of great service.

It's been a while since I've been home so I can't give you any specific details, but to sum it up, the driveline (Engine GB clutch and rear axle) was trouble free till the time we sold her.

The AC knob remained broken till the end, but everything inside remained pristine till the day she left.

We've moved up to the newest 3 series and while its definitely a better place to sit and fancy graphics tell you how efficient (boring) you're being, I miss the kick-in-the-nuts, flaming monkey, hell on a pogo stick acceleration the old 3 offered. The torque characteristics of the new engine are too linear for my liking.

its been 3 yrs since i logged in using my user name and password, but i would definitely go through the content everyday on this site without logging in!! Dint want to spawn another thread so decided to add my queries in this thread. i recently got my dad's car for my personal use its a 3 series BMW 320D 2010 model Clocked close to 32k kms. Now here's my query is it a good idea to have it serviced from a vendor other than BMW considering the high costs? Can i do the wheel rotation and wheel balancing from an outside shop since the costs are high again @bmw? Also does anyone know if the wipers need to be bought from bmw only or are are they available at any other places? please note there is no warranty on the car nor is there any service package.

I know it's not a great idea to open an old thread, but I wanted to get opinions for a used car.
There are two, in fact. There's a BMW from Chennai and one from Mumbai (all from OLX).
2013 BMW X5 xDrive30d which has done 30K kms and a 2013 BMW 640d which has done 6300 kms and Is owned by a claimed 'Australian Consulate' guy. He says that costs have to be paid only for registration. In my opinion, neither of them seem legit. But I wanted to get the opinion of members of Team-BHP. What do you think?

I think it was in the news only recently of these used/new high end car scams owned by 'consulate' chaps. One poor fellow forked out a huge load of money, only to find that the chappie never existed. They are able to even show you the car, test drive and all to lure you in.

Be very careful and insist on all documentation (originals to be shown to compare to the zeroxes) before parting with your money.

Well an e90 is pretty easy on your wallet if serviced other than BMW.
Brake pads (2 times) were changed by myself, Its a DIY job. You dont need assistance from BMW for wear and tear items, except the electronics, which I never faced any problems with.
I had my wheel rotation routine done every 5k-7k kms from any tyre shop.
She was with me for 70k km and did end up replacing the Front shocks, Strut mounts, battery and damping wheel. All CBS were done at BMW.

Thanks for the response so you got the shock ups replaced from Bmw or somewhere else? If from somewhere else can you share the contact details if it is in Mumbai or recommend a dealer?

The struts were done outside but the shocks were at BMW. Actually if you try sourcing parts from a vendor it does delay your repair. Since I had just one ride, time was of priority. Anyways as I mentioned if its not electronics feel free to show it to a known specialist. It works out 60% lesser when done other than bm. I did my brakes for 18k including labour, bm quotes 50k for the same.
Since I am from Chennai I wont be of much help to recommend you.

Need help from fellow 320D owners.

I own a Hyundai Verna Fluidic and the car hasn't given me any problems at all for the last 30 months. Coming from a Middle-Class family, at the time of purchasing the car, I had thought that I'm going to keep it for the next five years. That changed when I saw a thread on Team-BHP where a fellow BHPian was considering buying a used petrol 3 series for about 9L. I suddenly thought that may be even I can own a piece of German Engineering and started searching for a used one myself. I found one for about the same price as mentioned above but then thought better of it as the cost of running the car everyday would have burnt a hole in my pocket. I then stretched my budget to about 13-15 lakhs and started looking for a 320D.

I have found someone who is willing to get rid of his 320D and the asking price is 14L. The car has done about 62500 on the ODO and was purchased in December 2009. Its Black Colour and has a few major Scratches on the front bumper which frankly doesn't bother me (I would have been a lot more concerned had the car undergone a paint job). The owner had bought it brand new and has changed the tyres about 10,000 Kms ago and the Insurance is valid till November 2015. He is willing to take the car back to the dealership with me as I insisted on looking at the service history. I took it for a test drive and the car handles pretty fine. And I forgot to mention that its the top model with Sunroof and stuff.

Now the questions:

For someone coming from a middle-class family, I'm concerned about the cost of maintaining the car. Can someone please tell me what should be my average expenses for an year considering the car will NOT be driven more than 1000 KMS a month ?

Are there any known issues with the car ?

What should be a good price ? I have offered 13 Lakhs and have a feeling that he will say yes after a few days. There are not many takers for used 320D which was purchased before 2012.

This is a decision purely from the heart and not the mind. Do you think its a decision I'll live to regret ?

Do remember there was a facelift in 2010 for the e90 3 series. I sold my KL reg, 70k run 2010 model for 15 lac. I guess he is asking a bit more, though 13 lac seems a competitive buy from your end.
Be prepared for the mainteneance cost. Suggest you get it serviced outside. Parts though expensive when compared to Hyundai, will not burn a whole in your pocket if only the service has to be taken care of. Anything major will be a setback.
Do look into the history of the car service as well as the parts replaced. Also check on insurance ,zero dep. being a must in this segment
On a lighter note, go ahead with the purchase, You wont regret behind the wheel.
