Dev,
The dent pic is attached, please see and let me know if its possible with PDR.
Cheers,

This dent can only be reduced with PDR and not removed. You see, there is crease running in the center of the dent which forms a part of the mudguard shape and hence has to be tinkered to bring it back to shape. PDR is ineffective, to a great extent in removing dents on bent/curved sheets of metal.

Thanks Dev. Would you be knowing what type of PDR equipment does this shop have, is it suction pull types where in some glue is pasted and then dent removed using pull ?

Yes, that is the kind of tech most outlets in India have. There is something practised widely in Delhi locally called "sukha denting" in which the tinkerer tries to remove the dent without damaging the paint by using a plastic mallet on the painted end and covering the metal with a piece of thick cloth. There should be people at JC Road, Bangalore who do this too. Do a field survey, you will know.
76000kms Update::
People say, that there are times, when one tends to get bored of the things one has in life. Be it a cell phone, a home, a car, or anything of the sort.
With Hariya, this feeling is a "Yes" and a "No".
Yes, because he continues to be his reliable, simple, down to earth self. Starting at the first crank even after weeks of hibernation, delivering reasonable fuel efficiency. All his electronics (he doesn't have many), switches, lights et al are working like they were, on the day I brought him home. All of this makes it a very boring ownership experience.
And "No" because he continues to excite me, on every drive that we go out on with his performance, ability to make space for himself, that eerily silent cabin at 130kmph and that look in his eyes that tells me not to worry about any road/trail that we need to tread.
However, I feel it is time for him to get a few new things.
1. Tires: The stock BS Duelers have lasted till date and my stepny is now a "tube tire", thanks to nasty rock cut at one of the remote hills of Uttarakhand with 9 people on board. That apart, 2 of his tires regularly lose around 5 PSI per week, in spite of having no punctures or valve leaks.
2. A new set of shock absorbers: This is more of want than need. I ve heard of Bilstein shock absorbers performing much better than the stock units and hence am keen to try them.
Any inputs here from Scorpio owners?
3. A touch screen sound system with BT and a reverse camera: This too, is a mere cosmetic need and I hope, will ease my work on the move, if required. I m no music buff but I feel good listening to good music and am hence thinking of this upgrade.
There is nothing negative to update on this thread. Apart from regular service, a few squeaks from the doors and suspension bush changes (trademark M&M rubber you see:D) during most services, I haven't had a single glitch with him which is probably the reason for me staying away from the "new car" bug, inspite of having opened a few threads and taken inputs.
So in conclusion, he does whatever I expect out of him, and does that exceedingly well.
I know him and his ASC in and out and vice versa, which ensures that my job gets done professionally, punctually and we continue to be happy, munching miles together.
I love him.clap:
Aloha...
I leave you with a recently taken photo of my trustworthy steed, Hariya.
@MODS: Please move this thread to the "Long Term Reviews" section and update the title to: "Happily munching miles at 76k kms."
Note from TBHP Support : Thread moved to the Long Term Ownership Reviews section.
Thanks for the updates, Dev. Good to hear about your happy ownership experience, and wishing you many more happy miles in the future. Keep updating this thread.
Hi Devdath
I follow your notes on your Scorpio and find them interesting as I have a similar one. I too need to change tyres and shocks.
The original Bridgestones H/T have lasted 60K and are on their last legs, I cant decide whether to go for Yoko Geolandar A/T or just replace it with another set of BS H/Ts.
Also, been asking about re shock upgrades without much luck, there appears to be just 2 options circa Rs 1000 stock ones or Rs 10,000 Billsteins. Two ends of the spectrum!
A local mech has suggested converting the rear to twin shocks by welding two shocks together and mounting it on the current mount; sounds straightforward but I am yet to explore the feasibility of that option.
FYI-There is a Rs 50k set of scorpio shocks on the TBHP classifieds and Tien shocks advertised on the redrooster site.
Cheers

Thanks Benny. Yes, the ownership has been completely happy thus far and Hariya is one of those beasts who reminds me of that old Hero Honda ad "Fill it, Shut it, Forget it.":thumbs up

People recommend the Geolanders more than the BS Duelers when it comes to AT performance, however, for pure highway, nothing beats the Duelers.

I would not do things like welding two shock absorbers together, even though the mechanic recommending it might be very experienced for the simple reason that I do not fiddle with factory settings as much as possible.
I had enquired about the "Old Man Emu" suspension yesterday and was told that the dealer would have it in stock by next month. I will wait.
Had been to Goa for the long weekend (15-20th Aug) with my wife. The onward journey via Arsikere, Honnavar and Karwar took us 11hrs including an hour of break at a road side food stall at Arsikere.
We left Bangalore at a leisurely 1500HRS on the 15th of August and reached Panjim at 0400HRS.
Hariya, after his dose of System-D was extremely frugal at 12.25kmpl with highway speeds of around 100-110kmph.
Had a splendid time in Goa and met TBHPian Siddeshb and his family. Did some mild offroading at the Zoo Zoo hill near the Calangute beach with Siddesh and took in some enchanting views.
City economy with System-D at Goa for another full tank was 12.57kmpl.
Refilled at the same HP petrol bunk on the Karwar highway and after some spirited driving from Honnavar to Jog behind an Innova, reached Bangalore in 10 hrs including an hour at Jog and 30 minutes for dinner at Sira. This time the FE was down to 11.97kmpl.
All figures are with the ac on all the time.
Time to change Hariya's shoes now.
Aloha, Dev.
Hariya completed a quick dash to Calcutta and back for the Durga Puja this year.
As usual, he was his glowing, easy self, munching miles at 110kmph and 130kmph at times when I did not bother about his FE.
Completed the trip successfully without a single puncture and further cemented my belief in Hariya's capabilities.
Hi Devdath,
Did Hariya get the differential locks(MLD or something), I read in some other thread that you bought them but yet to fix. I'm also interested in getting them fixed on my Scorp.

They are yet to be fixed since I m neck deep in work these days and my trusted ASC too is undergoing a take over.
Should be done sometime in December.
***Shopping Time***.
All right, its time for me to loosen some purse strings and get Hariya a few things that are due to him for some time now.
1. A set of 4 tires.
Though there were initial recommendations for the Geolanders, off late, there have been a lot of comments about their abysmally weak sidewalls and the resulting pre mature bursts.
I have, accordingly decided to go for Continental Cross Contacts.
Prices however, are on the higher side. I have taken only one quote till date and that is INR 8000.00 per tire. I feel it is at least 1000.00 on the higher side.
I will call up a few more dealers today and see if they can offer me a lower quote.
Any recommendations by B'lore BHPians here?
2. A new battery. 80AH.
The Cummins Shakti VRLA battery, after 3 years of sterling duty, has now begun to show its age. I would have most gladly replaced it with the same battery but Cummins have closed their battery business in India.:Frustrati
So, the infamous battery hunt begins.
Looking forward to recommendations, prices and other tips here from fellow BHPians.
This apart, I intend to take Hariya for the fitment of his long pending MLD that has been lying with me for the past 6 months now. Shall get around to doing it sometime before the 2nd week of December.

A few Scorpio owners that I'd met in my ASCs customer lounge had got MRF Wanderers as stock tyres with their LXs and SLEs. They were quite positive in their feedback w.r.t road noise, wet grip and durability. So, if you're okay with desi brands, this is one that you could consider :)
Cheers,
Vikram

This item was closed on the 28th at Gurgaon where I installed 4 Geolanders AT-S of size 255/65/R16. It was done at the highly recommended Bridgestone outlet "Star Wheels" under the personal supervision of its friendly owner Deepak Kataria and the watchful eye of our veteran Scorpio owner gd_1418.
I took off to Lambagaon, Himachal immediately after the fitment and am currently basking in the sun here.
The tires are very good and offer highly increased levels of grip over the older BS Duelers. Also, the steering has become lighter and taking curves at 90kmph which would result in a squeal from the Duelers is now a very simple affair.
On the negative side, I feel that the road noise has increased slightly and FE is yet to be measured since I had to crawl at 20kmph for around 60km near Ambala due to heavy fog which would have taken its toll on the efficiency and hence it has not yet been measured.
2. A new battery. 80AH.
[/quote]
The Scorpio's famous self healing properties came in to play here. Post one jump start at home, the battery has been performing satisfactorily and hence the purchase has been postponed.
**Next on the list**
1. Install the MLD (Gawddd..when will I do this?)
2. Remove my 50% tints and install transparent tints in their place.
3. A well deserved 3M interior treatment post my return to Bangalore.
At 81k kms, it was time for another cross country run to participate in a family wedding at Himachal Pradesh.
Hariya, as always was more than game to do it.
The route taken was Bangalore-Hyderabad-Nagpur-Lakhnadon-Sagar-Jhansi-Gwalior-Agra-Delhi.
This stretch was done in 32 hours.
A couple of hours were lost since I blew a tire (my mistake in underestimating the size of a stone on the road) at Lakhnadon and have a pic to show the same. I also missed the Yamuna Expressway and took the older road to Agra.
After a day's work at Delhi and changing all four tires to 255/70R16 Geolander AT-S at Batra Tires, owned by a friend, we went on to Lambagaon, Himachal Pradesh for 6 days and came back to Delhi the day before yesterday.
The Geolanders were put to use on all sorts of terrain within 5 days of purchase. Tarmac, ruts, slush, broken roads, water crossings, you name it, and they faced it, with aplomb.
Ride comfort, grip, noise and cornering ability has increased manifold.
Performance:
Hariya's performance has been stellar. I tried to maintain a constant 120kmph on 4 laners and 90kmph on single lane carriageways and Hariya was more than happy to do it. The overall fuel efficiency was 11.3kmpl without System-D which was very satisfying to me.
Overall, I continue to be a delighted, elated, exhilarated friend of Hariya...!!!
