Car seems to look clean and neat. Congrats on the buy.

The dash, I would not say absurd or weird, but is unique and I find it good especially for the front passenger, as they get a lot of space for their legs

I realised this too, very late, when I sat in my friends Alto and found my knees brushing against the dash board, never did this happen in my Ikon.

The Ford Ikon 1.3 Flair was giving a flawless service and has been a loving "child" for me and my wife ever since we purchased our prized possession about 1.3 years back.

However, with the Odo reading 66XXX kms, the need of the hour required certain botox treatment for our baby!!

The front suspension was giving the otherwise pristine ride of the Ford practically goosebumps ...:Frustrati

We had purchased two tyres(Dunlop) but then because of the misaligned shockers, the tyres got worn out pre-maturely.

To be honest, i was aware of the problem but en-route to Indore(A travellogue is due friends!!).

But then had no choice but to return to Aamchi Mumbai to have it attended. By which, the damage was already done.

Well, the suspension overhauling set me back by Rs. 9,400/-. The details of the bill are as below:

Spares Required:

1 Lower Arm Assembly 4700
2 Steering Ball Joint 1760
3 Steering Boot 220
4 Wheel Stud 180
5 W/D 40 Spray 95
6 AP 3 Grease 145

TOTAL PARTS 7100

Labour Charges

1 Suspension Fitment 1250
2 Disk Cleaning+ Misc 650

TOTAL 1900

Wheel Alignment Charges 640
Total Bill Rs. 9,640/-
Amount Paid Rs. 9,400/-

After getting the car back, the Ikon felt planted and the thud sound vanished completely. Straight line driveability was spot on.

The next day, after getting up, saw a flat tyre.

Somethings always crop up when you are time starved and in a way racing against time.

Took the car and Lo and Behold, our good old suspension had eaten into our tyres in such a way that the steel coil re-inforcers started playing hide and seek.

No way we could keep running on the same set of shoes!!

Had a long chat with Wifey....

Mid month and already in red as far as finances gostupid:.

So, is this the right time to incur such an expense??

Finally, both of us took a conscious decision.

What is important and of top most safety needs to be done, no matter what.

04 tyres of MICHELIN CERTIS were welcomed home!!

Though the XM1 is the newer range, I personally liked the CERTIS Tread pattern and the side wall rigidity.

Did not consider the Bridgestones as I never had a strong feeling about this brand and maybe because of the fact that my 03 tyre burst (all rear, luckily) happened to be Bridgestones!!:Shockked:

The Yokohamas looked very Good but then the price kept me away.

Also. Certis appeared to be absolutely noiseless on the roads.

Price per tyre--- Rs. 3,500/- for 175/70/R13 (Stock size for the Ikon) against the MRP of Rs. 4090/-.

I specifically did not want to upgrade and wanted to keep the size as recommended by the manufacturer.

The joy of driving the Ikon is its driveability and did not want to spoil it at any point of time.

I have hackled Free Wheel Balancing and 01 Free Wheel Alignment from the dealer.

So, my 66XXX kms Ikon is all set to step into its second life phase!!!!
