That looks like one well maintained car.

The TUD5 is a gem of an engine. It can go miles if taken good care of. All the best mate!

A few interior pics

Now a look into the interiors.
Most of the 309s had cracked/melted dashboards as they couldnt take the Indian heat.Mine was lucky to have survived this slaughter

Speaking of diesel and petrol Peugeots, I remembered a funny story. My uncle buys used cars and never keeps them for over three years. During one such three year period he had a petrol Peugeot.

Then after a while, he put up a classified in the papers and a prospective customer came to see the car. He liked it, paid for it and drove away with it.

After about 20 minutes, he called again. This time, he sounded irate. In fact, he started yelling at my uncle accusing him of selling him a lemon. My uncle had looked after the car well and it had never given him any trouble. This was quite a surprise to him. So, trying to understand what went wrong, he tried to pacify the man and asked him what exactly he had done with the car in the past 20 minutes.

The man said - I have done nothing. I drove the car from your place straight to a petrol pump and filled the tank with diesel and started driving. I stopped at this place, and now the car won't start.

My uncle almost burst out laughing. Poor guy.

This is really a funny incident. So did it cause any damage to the engine?

Its an excellent piece, congratz. Have used one of these when it was launched, it was a friends and indeed a real hoot to drive around. The suspension was one of the best, esp for our Indian conditions.

This was my first car, or rather the older version with a 1.6 GTI 120 bhp engine. The close ration gear box and stiffer suspenion made it the best driving car i ever owned. Apart from iffy plastics and a fan blower diode blowing, it withstood 81000 miles of hard drving. This was in the UK

Seats were too short for me though

It looks as good as new, hillram.

Congratulations on the buy!!

Congrats, Ram. It looks so neat. This reminds me of my college days in Manipal. The 309 was my friend's daily drive to college. He never used to slow down for potholes and humps and the car used to take it with ease, no jump, no thud! The suspension was simply the best.

Some Extra bounties which came with the 309

The owner who maintained this car, needs to be felicitated thoroughly.
When i took then delivery of the car,he put a few things in my hand. These were objets d'art in my opinion
- Owners Hand Book (This was so detailed and explicit that the Star Trek
manual would look puny and send Capt.Kirk back to school )
- Warranty & Maintenance Booklet
- Dealer Network Book
- All the above neatly encased in a Leather Folder with Peugeot logo
embossed on it.
- A Pair of original iginition keys (Silca Brand),Made in Italy.

I couldnt have asked for anything more !!!!

You were lucky with Fiat Delight to get all such documents. Now lucky again with 309.

Wow, what a neat baby you've got your hands on, Ram !
How on earth do you manage aquisitions like this ?

Do tell us about the driving experience, I've always admired the 309 for its ride and roadholding..
