Peugeot wanted to produce the sedan version of the 307. Tata felt this was not economically viable so they parted ways

Im deriving 10.5 kmpl on 100% Aircon, which seems like a good mileage for a 1.4 litre petrol car.

Improvisations for 309

It was time to get some mods done for my 309.
First was a complete washing, engine bay oil bath, greasing which was followed by a complete vacuuming and cleaning of interiors.I ripped off the seat covers to reveal the company fitted seat fabric which was now matching the door pads.Dash boards got a nice 3M polish and voila the car was shining.
Decided to do very light decaling like Rally Peugeot and got some racing lines in Blue,Red and White representing the French Flag. The car now surely turns the heads on the road.
Installed new ICE in the 309 and now it rocks too.
Btw I also got the wheels caps painted in white as i didnt like the silver finish.
Next is the quest to hunt for the spares and keep them handy.
For me this is a dream come true car.
C'est La vie..as they say in France !!

Offlate after the servicing,i started to get a sort of creaky noises when im turning the steering wheel. One thing is that the whole dashboard was opened to set right the Air con system.Could this have created some issue on the steering column to produce these noises?

Whoa, what an immaculately maintained 309. Your pictures bring back some memories, Hillram. I remember the buzz this car created in '95. Went to check it out at Bombay Cycle & Motor Co and was impressed by her road manners. Sheer skill over broken roads was unmatched then. The salesman was making potential customers bend over and say "See the ground clearance sir...segment bhest!"

If you are a fan of this car, I must say you are extremely lucky to have gotten such a clean example. She's rare for sure. Congratulations & do drive safe.

I had few experiences which could have ended disasterous if it was not a UNO. The best part was the sweet sound which it make while shutting the boot "cling". I really miss her it was a mistake to give her away which I regret till date.

Even I would love to buy a well kept UNO I may be asking too much preferrably a diesel.

I see you have got a gem of a car Ram you are lucky and so the car. I have to meet you Ram inspite of tight schedule, you have got the OBJECT OF DESIRE, CONSURE OF THE EYES. Etc.
>>> I couldn't agree with you more.
I had a 1998 Uno (petrol) which I simply gave away to my driver, because of difficulty of obtaining spares and good mechanics from the authorised Fiat dealers in Mumbai.

Originally bought by my father (on my strong recommendation), it was driven in Delhi, UP and Maharashtra.

I am still nostalgic about its its terrific acceleration, including in gear acceleration and its great comfort. Even today, my family members recall its space and comfort. The first reaction that I got when I test drove the VW Jetta was how much it reminded them of the Uno, w.r.t comfort, space and solidity.

When I gifted it slightly more than a year ago, it had about 42k on the odo and it was driven immediately afterwards all the way from Mumbai through Nasik and MP to UP. A terrific car and my first love.

I remember going to Atul Auto on the Faridabad Road in New Delhi to get the Uno serviced and saw the late JN Dixit ( ex Foreign Secretary, ex National Security Advisor) drive up in his Peugeot 309 ( don't remember as to whether it was a diesel or not, didn't hear any clatter) for a routine check.

The Peugeot 309 was killed by PAL; ditto the Uno. Great products thoroughly mismanaged by management.

Regards
