Re: Chevrolet Cruze:“White Annihilator” has arrived.EDIT: Fitted Race Dynamics Box !!

Topped up fuel last evening and got an exact 13kmpl in city condition with 100% AC

What is most suprising is that this tank saw the most amount of idling with AC on due to hot weather. Stop at a point and keep the car ON with AC switched ON for long periods.

A rough guess would be atleast 1.5 hours of idling in this tankful. So impressed with the FE even more.

Btw, ordered for Cruze body cover from Tradus.com for Rs.580

When I called KUN dealership, they quoted Rs.1900 for the body cover

Update from my side on the AC: The compressor to condensor hose/pipe was replaced, compressor oil plus gas recharged as needed FOC.

AC now cools beautifully and just returned from a 1900 km drive in 40+ weather (Bangalore-Madurai-Kanyakumari-Kovalam-Trivandrum-Kovalam-Madurai-Bangalore).

Only doubt I have is if I set the temperature at say 20 or 21, I can feel/hear a clicking noise when the compressor kicks in periodically. This is something I don't remember before.

I thought the Chevys have the variable type compressor (like an inverter AC) where it never actually goes off, but like a VGT, can modulate the speed infinitely as per the set temperature. But now, I can hear the compressor kick in (very mild click noise/feel)

Can you advise?

I never had this problem. Infact, I never heard a single sound coming from the AC unit till date except for the blower/fan speed if its increased.

I have no idea about the type of compressor unit but, sound that you describe should not be there in any AC in a car as compressor kicking in sound is mostly found in home/industrial AC units.

If this sound persists, do show it to ASC for resolution.

Re: Chevrolet Cruze:“White Annihilator” has arrived.EDIT: Fitted Race Dynamics Box !!

Yesterday was a bit free so decided to spend it constructively by getting the brake calipers painted GERMAN RED

Went to my favorite dent and paint specialist and it took them a whole of 1.5hours to get it done and costed me a grand total of Rs.600

Let the pictures do some talking now

Nicely done. Much needed contrast. How about a silver strip on surrounding the wheel circumference, simulating a deep dish ?

I noticed you're running on Conti's, any improvement in handling? Also I live in hyd too and I'd love to know the detailing/body shops that you would recommend. Think I've seen your cruze now and then :P

Nice, Avinash!

Did they use any special heat-resistant brand of paint? Did they dismantle and remove the callipers or more of a as-is spray/brush-on exercise?

Also, my LT is due for insurance renewal in June. Best quote (so far) is HDFC Ergo at 17k for 10 lakhs IDV with 25% NCB. Must say, the rising insurance premiums are largely offsetting the NCB :-(

What do you think? Lower the IDV to around 9.5 lakhs? Car has run nearly 30k in these 2 years.

Thanks. I was thinking of getting a white strip on the circumference instead of silver and also paint the lettering on the tyre WHITE

Will it look too jazzy?

I changed to Conti's right out of the showroom and have done till now about 39,000kms and if you look at the tyre tread and depth, they are doing still great

The ride and handling has improved by leaps and bounds and there is a lot of silence that you can attribute to these tyres. These are WET conditions kings, hugs the road like a leech during rains.

This was a simple 3M paint I think and no, they did not remove the caliper. Just spray painted it after covering rest of the wheel with a newspaper

Yeah, its shocking that insurance premiums are increasing year on year.

If i recall correctly, I paid Rs.15,000 for a 9.XX lakh IDV...Please search this thread as I posted a picture of the insurance policy copy.

Avi,

Your car is sooooper clean.
I feel the black color is now making the wheels look smaller than it is.

One suggestion for your "Annihilator"
Adding side lip skirt as found on A4 S line. Looks sleek and doesn't impact the GC.

Thanks Prajesh. I like to keep my rides squeaky clean

Yeah, your right in the pictures the wheels look small but, in person the visual appeal in terms of size hasnt changed much

Is such a lip skirt available for the Cruze? Honestly, I like the stock lines of the Cruze. Maybe a spoiler is the only addition I can think of but, even that iam not too keen as of now.

Next step is to get the wheel circumference painted in WHITE to add more contrast to the black wheels

Re: Chevrolet Cruze:“White Annihilator” has arrived.EDIT: Fitted Race Dynamics Box !!

I just renewed the insurance for my Cruze and had to pay a whopping 30977 for 11 lakhs IDV (though I have selected Zero dep policy). Insurance rates have just started going northways now and it pinches. I first thought of reducing the IDV to something lower but then thought it might be a wise investment as my wife is now trying her hand on my car as it an AT.

I am also planning to get the car's brake calipers painted in Red or yellow. I think though I will go with yellow as they will be in contrast to the black colour wheels. Not decided completely as I like the red that I saw on your car and might follow suit. Another thing that i am planning is to get the roof blackend. Does that sound a good idea... not sure how a cruze will look with a black roof.

Yeah silver would also look good. But painting the letters on the tyres will give it a street racer kinda look. unless you want it , i would say lets keep it subtle

Could post frontal view pics of the tires which show the tread depth ?

Iam sorry to say but, you have been taken for a ride. Agree that the taxes on insurance has risen over the last couple of years but, that's a ridiculous high amount you have paid and no one must have paid that amount even when getting the car brand new

During my 2nd year completion, I paid Rs.15,000 for an IDV of 9.50 Lakhs without zero depreciation which in anycase according to me is a waste add-on. Even if you add zero dep, they normally charge 2-3K extra, not more. How old is your car?

Sure, yellow also would look good. What color is your car? Why dont you paint the caliper and then post a picture of your car here? Also, if its a white car then the black roof would look nice. however, in my opinion such contrasts will make the car look smaller.

You can look at Michelin Primacy as an alternate as they are a good balance of comfort and ride/handling.

Yokohomas can also be considered if your looking at only sporty nature of the tyre but, beware they tend to wear out a lot earlier ( 25k kms- 30k kms)
