Finally the phantom polo comes out in open!Congrats in acquiring this real Hot Hatch!
I guess the only changes to the 1.2 are the spoiler,wider tires.
Looks really handsome,that red polo.

I do not think there is any change in any spec compared to the 1.2 HL. 1.2 Polo HL comes with 185/60R15 tyres anyway. Spoiler is not definitely standard.

The old esteem engine in the swift was known to have poor driveability but it was peppy when revved hard (am trying to recollect, driven one quite a while back)....

I know the Swift that sadnabrina has would be with the old Esteem engine, that's why I asked how the two engines compare as my wife currently drives an Esteem.

Yes, you are correct. I know that the small rear spoiler is indeed standard. What I was talking about is any other spoiler which is exclusive to the 1.6. there are no additional gadgets or features compared to the 1.2 HL.

The swift G13BB and the Eateem engines are the same block with some mods including different size of piston. Performance figures are also different. But both are free revving peppy engines.
I felt more relaxed driving the polo than the swift. Knowing that I have a lot of reserve power was very comforting. The tacho rarely crossed 2500 during city drives and I could potter around in 4th gear at 40 kph with the instant FE displaying amazing 17.5 kmpl.

No centre arm rest. Neither front nor rear.

The dealership experience was good. However the guys were selling their first 1.6 and were not fully aware of the specs and features.
I took rubber floor mats, mudflaps, stainless steel door strip with POLO lettering and the sport seat covers (beige and black) from the dealer. Planning to go for body side moulding and bumper protectors from the market.

There are 2 schools of thought here one of them thinks that stretching the engine to it's limit early on improves its performance and life. The other things opposite. Not sure which one is correct.
My 145 was for a short period and that too did not cross 4500 rpm. Dont think I have stressed the engine much. However the major reason for run-in during older days was the unevenness of the frictional surfaces of the piston/cylinder/gears etc. Now with the current laser based computerised cutting technologies, these concerns are not there. So there is very little chance that you would damage an engine but not running it in.

AFAIK, Even BMWs have running in periods.
Inspite of all the advancements, there is still need for the piston rings to bed-in and the piston-cylinder wall clearances to saturate.
