Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

Thanks jkrishnakj.

Attaching some pics of the tyres, at 121,000kms on the ODO. These are OEM Bridgestone Duelers that came with the Safari on Day 1.
Having not much issues with them at the moment, may stretch for 5-10,000 kms more I think.

Yesterday did a day trip to Bheemeshwari Camp at Cauvery Valley. The roads were really bad with deep potholes for some 20 kms. Safari just handled it very well, with 4 adults on board.
There is an old saying, of the Tata Sierra I think - 'Takes the rough with the smooth!'.
Reminded me of that.

Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

Last week the battery died on me after I used the fans and music for a couple of hours while she was parked.
MyTVS roadside assistance (free with Royal Sundaram insurance) came to the rescue in 30 mins and jump started.

Thinking of checking Amaron battery prices for replacement... OEM has lasted 4 years.

She is at 123,000 on the ODO now.
The rear door has jammed, and one fog lamp isn't working.. May go to KHT to fix these when I get time...

Got new Amaron battery installed for about Rs.5000. The old one was Amaron as well.

The odo is at 126,000kms now and there has been no running for last few months as I am out of town. She is just parked at Hosur.

Fantastic thread Suresh!!! Definitely a confidence Booster for those who love this beast but are wary of the maintenance part.

Looking at how long your tires have last....it seems the life of tires is a function of time and not the odometer

Considering selling my beloved Safari, as I do not expect to be back in Hosur in near future, and she has been idle at Hosur for last 3 months.

Will be hard to let her go, but time has caught up I think. All good things end?

Suresh - lovely thread thus far. I can tell you how hard it is to let go of a safari. Have done it twice over in the past. Good luck. so, what car is in your mind next?

Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

Hi jkrishnakj - still not decided on selling her off, just considering. Given the times, I feel it makes sense to store her if the idle time is just a year or so than sell her off.

I have a friend who also has a safari, and is now taking care of mine by just running the engine now and then. I'm currently abroad on work. It is not clear how long I will be away from Hosur, so taking my time to decide. :-)

Hi Suresh, was reading your thread. I dont really need to tell you that it is amazing as so many have pointed it out over the years.

I currently have a Fiat Linea and was in search of an SUV. Safari has been a boyhood dream like you mentioned in your original post years ago. I was looking for a second hand but it is very difficult to find one with less than 90k on the Odo. Do you think it is wise to go for one?

How did the story end with your truck? Did you sell it off?

Hi verditer, your thread was a very interesting and informative giving a insight into owning a safari. There is not much about the post warranty ownership experience so I assume you sold off bulgy. But can give your 2 cents regarding the wisdom in buying a 2009 -2011 used safari which is the only suv in my budget (4 lakh).

Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

Well the story of my beloved Safari has not ended yet.

She was taken care by my father while I am stuck abroad, until his demise this past March.
Safari did her duties well for me and family during my father’s last days in hospital and the ceremonies thereafter.
It was a very emotional time for me.

I left her with an Uncle now who is enjoying her company now.

Should add, my father changed the tires with a new set of duelers, sometime in 2017.

Life goes on, but I hope to one day soon enough to resume this thread with tales from safari land, may be with a storme, let’s see!!
Until then, the odometer stays in the 150k range....

Condolences on your loss, Suresh. May he rest in peace.

Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

In July and then in October this year, I took her out for multiple Tirunelveli-Chennai-Hosur-Tirunelveli-Trivandrum trips. In July got her serviced at Hosur dealership (True Sai) as well.

Today marks 9 years since I bought her. Last few years have been very low usage except when I visit and take her out for my around Tamilnadu runs.

I still feel the same rush as Day 1, the way she pulls on the endless highways and makes a meal of all those thousands of kilometers without any ado. A Safari is a Safari is a Safari.

Some pictures from the recent runs:

Re: A new beginning - Tata Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR EX QUARTZ BLACK

Completed 10- years, and a little past 150k on the odo; mostly in retirement in Tuticorin district; I added a few thousand kilometers during last 3 weeks of 2020.
Love her for what she is. Old faithful.
