re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

I intend to keep the car for long as Toyotas last quite long. Not sure on the cost of shafts. The costing should be shared by fellow corolla users

There are other cars too which will last as long as a Toyota. BHPian Parag has a 200k + run Wagon R. There are swift's on the forum which have pushed 150K+. Key point is which car would cost lesser to maintain since you are on a tight budget. The car you are looking at already has a drive shaft and clutch issue. Look up this site http://www.toyotapartsconnect.in/ and find out the cost of the various spares etc and then make a decision. A larger vehicle would also guzzle more fuel.

Good Luck.

re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

Just for the benefit of readers , I am in touch with owners of both my Corollas and they haven't reported any issues in either of them.

Both the cars are at almost 90000kms now.

The white one suffered a minor bash and needed a grille replacement - easily available in Chennai for approx. 3 grand.

I helped a friend buy a 83000km done 2007H2 for under 3 lacs ;and he is head over heels in love with the car.

Air and oil filters are available dirt cheap - by Purolator.

Brake pads are reasonably priced compared to competition.

Suspension parts are also reasonably priced.

I never had to attend to the AC of my white stallion and I believe that is partially due to a cabin air filter which prevents dust build up on the evaporator coil.

The car barely needs attention on other parts unless the car has been abused.

The old Corolla is indeed one horse that just goes on and on ; and is a km/liter champion too.

MODS: Just for the benefit of readers who search the forum for Corolla , could you change the title of the thread to "Corolla AT and MT"

Dont worry ! THe cars will keep running for long. Cost of spares should not be much of a concern considering what the car is worth. I would have taken a Corolla AT but for the compelling point about keeping the size small (when I got our A-Star AT recently).

Re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

Update on both the oldies for the benefit of Corolla owners

Both the cars continue to soldier on at over 90000kms

The white needs its first suspension fix at 92000kms - some noise noticed on the front left side. It looks like a strut kit issue.

At 92000kms , the Michelin Primacy LCs just have about 5000km life left. There are also minor cracks on the tread plus a minor cut on the sidewall of one of the tyres.

These tyres were changed around the 50000km mark in 2011 , before I acquired the car ; so that translates into >45000km on Primacy LCs.

Managed a pic of the white - so here are the blue and the white showcased together.

Re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

^^ A brief maintenance update on the above post ; for the white Corolla MT at 92000kms

1.Front struts replacement - Monroe - Rs.5500
(Old coil springs were used )

2.Yokohama Earth1 tyres - stock size - set of 4 for Rs.21000

3.Windscreen polish - Rs.1200 ; this car still sports the original windscreen of 2005 vintage

4.Right rear window mechanism and central lock motor mechanism service

Even my Corolla 2006 is running on Earth 1 stock size and have completed 11k KMs and good set of tires for the price.

What exactly is this? Will this clear the swirl marks and scratches on the windscreen.

^^^ Yes , this is to remove minor scratches , wiper marks and swirls from the windscreen.

I got this done on my blue Corolla in Gujarat and based on the results , got the job done on the white car and my Grand Vitara in Chennai.

Hi vigsom, is there a good way to tell the pre 2005 and post 2005 cars apart visually. To me they look pretty much the same though post 2005 seems like the cars to get.

This is my Corolla 2006. I guess in earlier version there was a different design of the grill. But not sure from the which year they started with this grill. Another information, the grill on 2006 car was the last to be used in the Corolla, then Altis came up.

Let me help you out here.

Pre face lift vs facelift

1. Orange circular turn signals in the tail lamp cluster vs rectangular transparent a turn signals in the "LED" tail lam cluster.

2. Vertical slats on the grill vs the horizontal slats.

3. 5 spoke alloys vs 10 spoke alloys

This is what I can remember now.

Just wanted to check which facelift you are comparing with.

I just checked, 2004 Corolla has vertical slats and 2005 to 2007 Corolla has horizontal slats on the grill.

The Corolla received a mild facelift in 2005. The 3 mentioned changes had happened then in addition to the suspension.

Ok. Thanks. Then I guess your second point should have been the other way round. Isn't it?

Post#110 of this thread shows both the cars that I have owned - a 2003 AT and a facelifted 2005MT.

In addition to what Asit has mentioned , the LED taillights , front bumper airpath plus the foglights design are also the visual plus technical changes in the facelift.

Inside the car , the facelift has a six MP3 changer , and the H5 has autoheadlights , steering mounted controls , lumbar support for the driver ,and dark walnut wood finish .
