It's Me and My Honda City i-VTEC - It's Us Against the World! EDIT: Sold!-imag1761.jpg

Venus reached this milestone this evening while returning home. It's time for the 15K service which I am thinking of getting done by end of this month as I am planning to use i10 for rest of the month. Except for the horn problem there is no issue with the car.

Thanks Arup.

The horn is fine as such but sometimes the low tone unit doesn't sound properly and overall tone also keeps on changing every time I press the horn pad.

I guess they will again replace it under warranty like before.

PS - My car is under extended warranty now so I hope they still will replace the horn set.

HI BV,
I feel the pitch changes in my horn right from day one. Most City owners responded to this on my thread that this is in line with some noise pollution rules in Europe (or some place). Did your A.S.S. guy tell you that this is an error, and the same needs to be replaced?

It's not about the pitch change but one complete unit not sounding at all this time.

re: It's Me and My Honda City i-VTEC - It's Us Against the World! EDIT: Sold!

I purchased a new Honda city S-MT in Aug 2012 and ever since the first day am feeling a slight vibration at speeds in excess of 120kmph. The car has done just 7500kms to date Complained to Arya Honda while giving for the first service and they reverted back with .an All Ok. But the problem still persists. Had a 2005 Honda city which I traded in for this and had absolutely no problems with any vibrations even upto 160kmph. A manager at the dealership suggested that I do not compare the cars as the newer one doesn't have some oil suspension that the previous one had. I find it odd that a newer car would have such a problem and don't feel safe taking the car above 100-110kmph.

You need to get you wheels balanced, go to a good reputed tyre shop ( not A.S.S ) and ask him, to do balancing and alignment.

This will solve your problem

I complained on the Honda India helpline and within 12 hours got a call from customer service manager of Arya Honda who wanted to see what the issue was. An hour and 2 return trips on the sealink demonstrating to him the issue all he had to say was that this car is very light weight, it's normal for this model to have vibrations at such high speeds of 120kmph, the model was actually designed for Thailand where there are curvy roads so suspension made hard which is causing the vibrations and these speeds are not attained, steering wheel is in control hence balancing not required, he asked me to change the pump at which I fill air ( I had made sure the tire pressure was 30 rear and 32 for the front wheels on my way to the drive and told him so ).. And bottom line was that it is absolutely normal for this model. This really put me off considering my frequent trips to Pune where I have no confidence in the car going at speeds greater than 100kmph.. Unsatisfied and unconvinced, I asked him to arrange another Honda city to test out if its actually normal behaviour.

Lets see what happens...

Until then a little sad at not making the 'right' choice inspite of the rather thorough research I did thanks to being a bhpian. Checklist for test drives: attain speeds in greater than 100kmph to see the stability and how the car handles (in safe conditions ofcourse)

I was just wondering if you car came with Michelin's or some other tyres. I can say that with the Michelin's the grip levels are good.

The type of the tyres and their condition creates a lot of difference to the car handling characteristics. Soft compound tyres help a lot in grip / handling.

That being said the City is a light car and the dynamics are not as sharp as the European counterparts.

E.g. On palm beach road there is a signal to turn right towards Nerul, when you wait at the signal with all cars passing by creates a whole car to shake.

So my point being since you already checked the balancing and air pressure would suggest check the tyres next.

Cheers
MKP

Steering vibrations at high speeds is typically the symptom of ill balanced tyres. I would suggest you to get it done at the specialised tyre shops than the HASS.

Secondly, I agree the steering is light which doesn't inspire much confidence at high speeds but its only till the time you get used to the steering and its behaviour.

Lastly, if you are still not convinced then you can upsize your tyres to 195/60 to improve the handling.

I regulary touch around 120 easily but not once I got his feeling which you described here.

I have a 2011 SMT. I need some advise from experts
1. Once in a while on the highways i hit 150 kmph. it is only only then , that I feel the car to be unstable ( or say not so confident with the steering) . is this a inherent problem or does it has to do with my stock tyres??
2. i feel the sound insulation is not great. it is like i can hear the sound of gravel on a lonely road when I am at 100 + kmph .
3. How do i set the Trip meter to zero ?

Guys I am at ring road honda for the service of my car. I hand overed my car at 10 am and promised delievery time was 2pm. But the issue is that these guys havent even started the job yet. I am extremely.frustrated at the moment and I am neither getting any satisfactory answer from these people. After raising the issue with a senior supervisor they are now taking the car to workshop and before that it was in their washing area only. Please guide me how to proceed I mean never before i experienced this kind of nonsense from RR honda but this is something which has gone over the top, they are starting the service job when the car should have been delievered!

The problem as you are describing is straighout a tyre balancing issue. Do get it done from a good tyre shop and see if any change is there.

The statement being given by Honda is utter rubbish, Don't go by them.
