THANKS ALOT for this info!

A hinge of my Linea's Air Filter Cover needed to be replaced and the F.A.S.S. at Bangalore (KHT Fiat) wanted me to replace the whole assembly for Rs.2000/- + Labour.

With a remap, wouldn't it show when the Diagnostics reader is plugged to OBD Port ? Wouldn't it Void warranty if theres an ECU remap detected?

Also, any specific change you noticed after changing to Synthetic ?
(Mine has done 70k kms in mineral and I plan to stay with mineral unless theres a pronounced difference felt.)

Heres to wishing you a million happy miles ahead.

Re-mapped

The Linea completed 3yrs and clocked a little over 35000kms when the re-map was done.

Got it remapped by Code6 when they visited coimbatore! The remapping experience was very nice. They listened to my requirements patiently and we did various combinations. Finally I was happy with one map and they were'nt too keen and wanted to tweak it further and it was even better.

They had suggested to drive for atleast 300kms and then said we can tweak and improve it further. Happy with the map and waiting for the next tweak to make it even better.

As far as the remap is concerned I believe a minor tweak is required. The drivability has improved a notch better after installing the K&n. Fuel efficiency has remained unchanged after the map.
Hi, was the remap done with the K&N filter installed or with the stock filter? If it was done with the stock air filter then you should immediately inform Code6 about this change. They create the maps based on the stock condition of the car, so the remapped values in the ECU map would best suite the stock air filter. The K&N increases the air flow in the engine cylinder thus changing a lot of things or say values on which ECU actually operates. Revert to the stock filter until you consult this with Code6.

Cheers

Thanks GrammarNazi! Never really bothered on the warranty part. The car is already out of warranty and I did not get the EW as well. I'm using Mobil 3000 synthetic and don't feel any huge difference. But when I used Mobil Delvac1 in my Palio MJD, there was huge difference. So would recommend delvac 1 if you are thinking of fully synthetic.

Thanks for the concerns Amiya. I did discuss with Anoop about this and decided to get back to k&n after his suggestion. But I do need to visit them again for another minor tweak.

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Its almost 43000 on the odo and got the tyres changed. Went in for 195/65 R15 Yoko Earth1.

The tyres were of the 10th week of 2014 batch. More on the tyres after some usage Also got the AC pollen filter replaced with a new wire mesh filter.

The outgoing Michelin PLC had served well for 43k.

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Got the Linea's map updated during my drive to Bangalore on the republic day weekend and had a fabulous drive back home to Coimbatore. Felt as though I was driving a completely different car!
In previous map there was considerable smoke, but now its disappeared and the FE has improved too! The engine is far more silent and feels eased out and relaxed always.

Being weekend there was decent traffic and we didn't push much. Attached are some stats from the drive in the old map and updated one:

Old map, avg speed of 75kmph for 2 hrs delivered 18.2 kmpl

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-1.jpg

Updated map, avg speed 82 for 1 hr delivered 20.3 kmpl

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-2.jpg

Leaving aside the FE, the way in which it picks up speed on 4th and 5th is almost up in-terms with the Palio MJD. All said and done, great work from team code6 and a proper drive is due for me in the Linea post which will share further updates

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Its now 49000 on the odo and I have swapped cars with my dad when the odo was around the 48,100 mark.

I had sold the Palio MJD and got a New Linea which I have swapped with my dad. Now this guy is expected to clock more miles than its done over last 4+ yrs.

Just some figures from the last weekend drive from Coimbatore to Chennai.

This was from Krishnagiri to Ambur

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Hi H14,

I have some doubts about the speaker upgrade for my Linea.

1. Speakers of what power rating should i go for.
2. IIRC the user's manual says the HU has 30W X 4 output, is there any problem if I go for speakers with higher power rating.
3. How much would it cost as installation charges if I have to just install 4 new speakers in the car?

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

It's 11 months since I updated the thread! Last update was on March 23, 2015 with odo at 49,000, today the odo stands at 74,600 kms. Following are the updates over the last 26,000 kms spanning over a mere 11 months

April 2015

Clocked 51,200 kms. Got the Turbo hose and oil separator hose changed at CAI Coimbatore. Both of them developed minor cracks.

May 2015

The car had been munching miles and the odo was nearing the 53k mark. Few stats from the drives done in MAY 2015

Salem to Ulundurpet

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-1.jpg

Overall Trip log for Salem to Chennai

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-2.jpg

May 19, 2015

It was 53,823 on the odo and got the Diesel filter changed. The diesel filter was last changed at around the 30k mark. Got the filter at Dhanam auto stores in Coimbatore for Rs. 1300.

June 2015

It was a little over 56,000 on the odo. Done almost 8k in 3 months
Some figures from the weekend drive to Coimbatore done in June
A personal best of 26.2kmpl in the Karumathambatti to Sankkagiri stretch on NH544.

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-3.jpg

July 2015

This was the time I was on full experimental mode on the re-map! These drives answered the qry that I used to get from many on why I did not go for switchable maps? The simple answer: Why need switchable re-maps when a single map can deliver these?

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-power.jpg

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-mileage.jpg

Apart from these, added another 3k on the odo in less than a month and was planning on the 60k service sooner than planned!

July 15, 2015

60,000 kms service update.

Got the oil change done with Murugan (SMK Automobiles). I purchased the oil filter and Mobil Delvac1 from Dhanam in Coimbatore and got it changed on July 15.

Also changed the brake pads with the mfw pads (non-oe).

Odo at time of service was 59,901.

Oil - 950x4 = 3800
Filter = 385
Drain Plug = 120
Labour for oil change and brake pads change = 600

Total 4905

Diesel filter was changed around the 55k kms mark and so not changed now.
The KN would need a cleaning after few more kms.

Gearbox oil had planned to change at fass sometime in the following weeks as Tutela was unavailable at dhanam.

Timing chain was changed at 30,000 during a recall and hence skipped that as well. Effective due for timing will be at 90k.

Apart from that the other belts were examined and found good to go for some more time.

August 2015

GB oil change
62,300 on the odo and got the gearbox oil changed. Got the Petronas Tutela from RamKay and got it changed with Murugan @ SMK.
Tyres had done 20k and I was super happy with the Earth1. This is how my tyres looked after 20k kms of use

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-12.jpg

September 2015

K&N cleaned
63,188 kms on the odo and got the KN cleaned on Sat 19th Sep.
Another chennai-cbe-chennai drive completed for the month and the odo stood at 63,700 kms.

Alignment & Balancing

It was little over 63,900 on the odo and got the wheels aligned and balanced at MRF Tyredrome. The odo at time of alignment was 63,844. The Yoko Earth1 had been fantastic and have clocked over 20k and from the looks I believe it can go well for over 50k. Only time will tell.

Apart from alignment/balancing, got the headlights aligned and also the car wash done.

October 2015

Cooling Coil Change

It was 64883 on the Odo and had a major A.C. overhaul done.

All of a sudden the a.c. wasn't cooling and got the hissing noise (low gas).

Went to Ambal a.c. works in Coimbatore (my regular place). Did a leak check and the pressure dropped within 15mins and the soap water leak check yielded zero results in the lines.

So the next suspicion was cooling coil or condenser o rings. Being the Pooja holidays, I was asked to leave the car after a couple of days.

Left it for work the following Friday and got back the car the next day. As suspected the cooling coil had to be replaced.

Went in with a non oe make which this guy uses for most of his customers and vouched for its quality. So me too opted for the same.

Now all is well and a.c. is at its best.

The Bill

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-22.jpg

Total damage was 7k for cooling coil, Labour, cleaning of filter, condenser, couple of o rings along with fresh oil for compressor and of course the gas for a.c.

A completely unexpected expense, but happy that it came up when I was in Coimbatore and was able to get it resolved without much trouble.

December 2015

GB oil changed again!
Almost 66,800 on the Odo and got the gearbox oil changed once again.
Thanks to the Chennai floods and some water wading, water entered the gb.
Got it drained and replaced at home.

Visit to a FASS (True Sai) after long time!

The Odo stood at 68,000kms and especially wanted to check condition of the aux belts and on the suspension. The engine guard too needed some corrections thanks to the craters on the poonamalle highway.

Suspension, belts were all well. Brakes cleaned. Clutch due for change but postponed by a month thinking of the rain forecasts in Chennai for last week of Dec.

Additionally got some flashy stuff done too!
Ambience light for the footwell and indicators on the inside of ORVM. Buy 1 meter of led strip and this fass can do the job for you!

Wow! Those are quite a few miles muched within 11 months! & Update felt like a journey in itself! Brilliant!

There is a new design for the timing chain at FASS, & has a life of 90k kms.

From the pics, your ride looks as good as new even before the washing ! Get any polishing done ?

True Sai, heard ALOT of great stuff about this place! Maybe I should actually visit them when I drive down there !

Informative post, as always! Wish you a million happy miles ahead

A round trip to start the year! (Coimbatore-Kotagiri-Ooty-Masinagudi-Ooty-Kotagiri-Coimbatore)

With the odo inching towards the 70k mark, started the year 2016 with a drive to the Nilgiris! Was planning as a solo drive until DRIV3R joined along in his mamba

Started around 9:30 am from Coimbatore. There was hardly any planning except that we start by 9 post breakfast. We did Kotagiri-Ooty-Masinagudi (via Kalhatti) and back in the same route.

Prime focus was to drive uphill from Masinagudi to Ooty to see how the MJD's perform. Last time when I drove on the New Linea, the MJD struggled, but this time around with Cody it was a different ball game! It was very eager and agile even on kalhatti.

The first stop was at Kotagiri GRV bakery for tea and vada. It was not that we needed a break, but could't miss the tea and vada at GRV whenever passing through!

The stats for Mettupalayam (Kotagiri road checkpost) to Kotagiri

It was 70,000 on the odo. Have clocked 23,000 kms in the last 9 months!
It was 35,000 kms with the remap too!
First re-map was at 35k and the updated map was at 46,800 kms.

Time and kms have definitely flown!

The odo had crossed the 71 mark and decided to gift Cody (or rather myself) some goodies for the 5th birthday coming up in Feb 2016!

Hella Black Grille

The red grilles on the linea wasn't sounding good and the electrician confirmed that the points was gone resulting in the odd tone. So got a new set of the black grilles installed. The red will be serviced with new point and would make its way to my dad's Linea.

The black has a sharper tone and sounds marginally muted than the red. Sort of liking the unique tone

Feb 14, 2016

Cody turns 5!

Cody completed 5 yrs as on Feb14 and had a little over 74,000 clocked on the odo.

Insurance was due and renewed from UIIC this time. IDV of 5.22 with 20% ncb, premium worked out to Rs.7257.

That's how she looks after 5yrs

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-28.jpg

Another weekend and another drive to home and back saw some interesting stats!
Avg speed > 75 and still managing FE around 20 is certainly commendable I suppose!

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-30.jpg

Air-filter cover issue:

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-31.jpg

Just a minor niggle that was always expected came up with the air-filter cover. The thread wore out and screws started popping up. This is in-spite of having used some wire sleeves and tightening it. So on my way back to Chennai, stopped over at Marvel FIAT in Erode and thought to change the assembly. The latest ones equipped in 'New' Linea and Evo's have metal sleeves and thereby such issue doesn't happen. The cost of the assembly was Rs.1800, I requested if we can try to fix the existing and they obliged by adding wooden plugs and screwing. Now it snugs up well and can last some-more time before needing a replacement.

Thumbs up to Marvel FIAT Erode

That's a very detailed update on the maintenance part. Car looks as good as new despite 5+ years of ownership.

No Marvel in Erode is competing hard. I'd rate them on par with True Sai. Both of them have been excellent so far. Nowadays there are numerous cars coming to TrueSai from Bangalore and the place is full most of the time and that is when we started exploring other options and found the potential of Marvel!
