Hi AEN,
Ahhh... yes, the brake booster upgrade. There was an earlier upgrade as well for the 2009 Fortuners. I was told they did that free of cost and replaced some of the brake components - discs and some tubes or some such thing I was told. That I was also told Toyota did it free of cost. But the later upgrade of the brake booster was at cost around 6K as mentioned by you. So that sentence of your stating that you got it done FOC threw me off track.

And I guess the brake shoes could be wearing out faster as possibly in the initial days after the booster upgradation you were applying the same force on the pedal as before - till you got used to it ? I realised that all that was required after the new booster come in on Admiral was a gentle feather touch on the pedal where earlier you required a little bit more of persuasion. It took me some time to get used to it.
Incidentally - when (at what KM reading) did you change the brake pads first and any change after that ?

Hi Guderians,
I changed the brake pads at 60K. So now they are about 10k old. I got both the brake upgrades done. The first one of changing the discs and so on was free and I paid for the next one.

I can't think of any other difference with Fortuner as far as Ergonomics is concern.

I know something about the economics though !
The Fortuner has a seatbelt height adjuster which is absent in the BMW F10 models.
Had read it in the official review can't find it now.

Re: Fleet Admiral Togo Heihachiro - Toyota Fortuner. Life Sails On...

Greetings Admiral!
My Fortuner is slated for the 10k kms service this week.
I wanted to ask about the propeller shaft greasing.
I had read somewhere that it is supposed to be done every 10k kms and is a part of routine service.
Also is it recommended to change the engine oil to synthetic?
The thing is service personnel here do not have much of an idea, they say it is not necessary.
Your valuable inputs on the same?

Thanks

Hi ishlinea,
Yes the prop shaft needs to be greased every 10K KMs. Read the early pages of this thread and you'll find quite a few posts dedicated to the same.
About the oil - I have so far stuck to only Toyota recommended oil.
Aloha !

Guderian Sir!!
Trust everything is alright at the Western Front and all matters (trivial and vital) related to the temporary rough weather are sorted out. A hiatus of this magnitude is definitely a cause for worry for we viewers / admirers of Togo channel.
How is the sailing with Admiral san?

Regards,

Samish

His motto was "Live to Drive", and he did exact justice to both the car and his writings.

RIP Guderian.

You will be surely missed..
