re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

@mayankk---congrats on your 1.6 Duratec. Nice review indeed.

@mitrajdeep---I have no trouble slotting the gear to 3rd from 5th, but I do this rarely.

As regards ABS, it became standard on the SXi from March, 2007 onwards---mine was the first lot. Airbags got plonked in only in 2008, after competition started offering it (SX4)

Why would you want to open the bonnet at a shopping mall security check?

I dont think should downshifting from 5th to 3rd should be an issue. I do it when required on my Ikon, and it should be no different on any car.

Is your car driven by multiple members of the family?

The bonnet check i've seen occassionally, especially when delhi police puts out a red-alert.very rare, though.....

As for the 5th to 3rd shift, well, nope.
It has never happened to me, in any car...might be a good idea to get it checked out.

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

We need to open the bonnet for security check at some malls, though the guards would probably miss a box in there with "bomb" written on it.

benbsb29- no I am the only member of my family who drives it, but sometimes my friends want to drive it and they typically drive cars with indicator switch on the right.

I plan to have the gear issue checked out now, my car has been driven only 5,500 kms, do you think some more kms will sort out the problem ?

seeing the photos of the car and the engine deck, whoever was the previous owner, think they have maintained it quite well.

I am used to opening boots at the mall for my Fiesta but bonnet is the first time I am hearing being opened for inspection. Where's there space to keep anything else? BTW which malls are these?

Some malls do ask for it. For example the City Center Mall at Hyd. When he first asked me, I asked him to open the lever from the left side of the car.

Next time onwards, he never asked me, or any other Ford owner perhaps, due to the extra effort involved.

ok.
so finally got down to the com-paint business.
took about 20 minutes, and although its not as prim as a proper paintshop.......well, anyway that wasn't the objective.
at least its not as screamingly scratched as before...
overall, went well and should hold till i really mess up in GGN and have a scratch SO bad it HAS to go to a professional...
Its bound to happen, knowing gurgaon...

edit:jic, first 3 are before, last 3 are after

Hi mayank,

Thats a neat job done well. Although the scratch on the rear wheel arch is faintly visible I guess the com paint had done its job.

Good luck for driving in Gurgaon and hope you dont end up having any scratch at all.

@ghodlur: Thanks.

Anyway, just got it back from the washers.
car wax, interior shampoo and clean, engine bay clean-up,essential oils check, lights etc, all done.
250 bucks, guy picked the car and gave it back, and as far as i could tell no hanky panky with the petrol.

uploading some pics here.
Ps: sorry about the amateurish blocks in one.It was to hide something ungainly.
I have dogs, and when i saw the pics on the big screen, i realized, "oh ****"

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

yesterday was a day of highs and lows.
Went to Harpreet ford to get the "sports pedals"...(geez, that would give me about 50 MHP right there!!)

anyway, some guy right there asked me how old is the car, glanced in through the windows, and said, "aap mujhe bech do,3-3.5 L tak main de sakta hoon"
(sell it to me. I can give you 3,3.5 Lacs).
I told him to go away, but later couldnt help but smile.

Downer was, my lappy bag's clasp somehow got hooked on the seat , caused a tear.
Now, these are OE ford covers, and ford quotes somewhere around 12-16k(unsure) for new covers.
are these covers(are they covers?) they sell the same as the ones i have?
are they leather?
will they fit the same as the factory ones?
anybody knows????

^^ That's a neat offer you got there Mayank. I mean 3.5 for car bought at 2.6 lakhs is a good offer.Appreciation huh!!!
But how much have you spent on it over and above that 2.6 L. Looks like you are really taking good care of the car.
I know selling the car is out of question for the love that you shower on it and the care that you take to maintain it.
Have fun, you ownership thread is turning out good and to watch out for.

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

I'm sure it was just a blurted figure on his part, but hey,who cares.

and anyway, 2.6 to 3.5?
i havent spent THAT much over and above what i got her for.
If you take away accessories, and/or self inflicted injuries, its much lesser!
so, no word on the seats anybody?

PS:fiesta accessory prices that i could locate online, as well as on some dealer websites, dont go by them.
I think they are old, and will look exorbitant.
A visit to the dealerproved to me that pedals aint for 2200.
just 700 bucks....:O

Best:ford oe alloys(new ones, 5 split spoke), 16k.
gonna get the pedals tomorrow, then seats, then maybe sometime later the wheels.
Current ones are a pain to clean!

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

Wow, are you sure the sports pedals are that cheap? I paid nearly 2700 for them 3 years ago. They were supposedly Italian-made.

Regarding the tear in the seat, I'm sorry to know about it. I'm not sure if the leather vinyl covers Ford sells are the same. They used to cost 11K 3 years ago.

The ones in your car are leather in the center (dotted portion) and vinyl at the sides. You've got the cut on the leather part.

The guy who installed seat covers on my WagonR says he can get the same ones as those on my Fiesta for around 5 K. Therefore if you plan to change, I suggest you explore after-market solutions.
