re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

So, had bought this switch, aircraft style flip open and arm.
Am planning to use for something more substatntial later, but currently it ws just lying around, so decided to put it in, and connect it to the band expander discussed earlier.
the and expander draws power from the stereo, and it being constantly on means i can ONLY listen to on odd stations, which doesn't sit well when wifey is with me.
so now, i can turn it on and off with this.
The red arrow is the flip switch in faux CF, the yellow arrow is the switch itself, it has an LED on its tip, which i have not connected right now, cos although it looks real cool, its in the field of view for the driver.
look at the stereo, all frequencies now tunable!!!
yippee!!!!

slight finishing, and cleaning up required.
Note: dont do a DIY on this.
some tools are very "specialist" ones for this.
trust me.

meantime, a nice thread from another forum with a lot of fix-up costs quoted, as well as labor, kind of a ready reckoner:

Great! my car jus turned 5! she will complete 50k before this year end. Have been addicted to the car. Recently, I feel that the AC cooling has come down drastically. The service folks are not too keen on fixing it. Last time around, they said, they tested and the parameters look just fine that we dont have to fix it

3/4th of a ton breached!!

Tanked up Yesterday and saw that the 75k mark had been breached!
Hmmm.
Time to reflect.

But the roads and the traffic of gurgaon have taken their toll.
A couple of scratches(2),a compression on the rear bumper caused the paint to chip on the loading lip,and some suspension issues.

The mountainous nethers of corporate gurgaon messed up the shocks , which were changed for about rs5k, and some damage to the steering rack which apparently could serve out till 100k, but will start making huge amounts of "kad-kad" noises soon on every bump.

Hypochondriac me has already started hearing these at a million watts PMPO, although the occassional passengers say its hardly noticeable.

Ford syas the rack would be for about rs8k.
Some guidance as what additionally should be checked with this are invited.

Got an appointment for next week(wah CXO mr.Ford ki maaya!)

Meantime the car took me to rishikesh and lensdowne, without a falter!

Hi! Mayankk, have you tried changing the stock head light bulbs with a higher wattage bulbs, specially the H1 bulbs that you have for the high beam in the Fiesta.

Have been looking at an upgrade for my Fiesta, however yet to find a suitable solution.

yeah, the high beams are on golden solarzens, 100/90.
relay seperately.
killer in the fog!
H1 is fairly common, no?
where are getting held up?

On an off note, just waiting to take the plunge to get bi projectors in the low beam socket.
been quoted reasonably, but it seems like an extravagance right now, so holding off.

I suggest you get the timing belt checked. And also get your throttle body cleaned, if not already done.

I got Hella 90/100 in H1, however shape of the bulb and size does not allow it enter the slot provided on the reflector. I was not able to get H1 in Osram and Philips with 90/100 ratings.

Where did you get the golden solarzens from?? hearing for the first time.

Hey Mayank,

Finally found your thread about the Fiesta, quite a good read. Now that you've had it for some time, just wanted to check if you've got any work on the following done.

1. Front suspension ( shocks / tie rod ends ) my Fiesta TDCI has started doing some kad kad over rough patches and a strange noise when going over speed brakers some thing like a swoosh kind of a sound.

2. I have a feeling that the timing belt also needs to be checked up . am at 71K kms and somehow the car has a distinct noise from the timing belt compartment.

3. have noticed a sudden shuddering in speeds of 90 - 50 kmph when braking need to get these checked up so planning a day off for my ride.

Do you stay in Lyutens Delhi ?? or just pass by sometimes. PM me a contact.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Crossed 80k day before...
queries:
Suspension, front has been completely changed now.
There was some damage to the tie-rods, and bearings, so i figured lets not couple the old with the new, and changed shocks and arms too.

Timing belt: what are your sysmptoms.
I havent faced any problems, so far...fingers crossed.
or maybe i dont know what to listen for.

Brakes: You seem to have warped discs.
get them skimmed and shoes changed, or sanded at least.
that problem is the exact one I had some 9-10 months ago.
did that, and it has not come back so far, although as per ford guys, discs are in need of being changed.
I figure, 80k, now some things WILL be at the end of their life, no?

I am in pandara, will PM you when you cross 25..you cant receive PM right now, i think

Re: 3/4th of a ton breached!!

Well , the brakes seem to be sorted out , had cleaned the car yesterday , and washed the front with a pressure wash, and then after things dried up a few sudden screeching halts were good enough to smooth things out,

the discs and pads were replaced about 10k kms back, the original ones had lasted about 60k, plus the braking attempts yesterday inspired some confidence and helped me.

Infact come to think of it i think everyone should have some experience with emergency braking methods and understand how the car will behave when you brake suddenly and how to control the car.

Anyways would still need to get the suspension and timing belt checked up.

About the timing belt noise, there is a distinct noise form above the timing belt compartment, last time when i got it checked up the SA very smartly sprayed in a bit of WD40 into the compartment and the noise went away, but was back in a couple of days. seems either the belt itself of some pulley with the timing belt is making that noise.

I stay close by ( in Lyutens ) so will get in touch some time.

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

Got some LED strips over from ebay.
Stick on things, reinforced with Feviqwik.
Lights up the footwells, well, well.
Took care to have the strip out of line-of-sight.
I'd ordered 4, but only used 3 in side the cabin, so put the fourth one in the boot.
Was not necessary, but hey.
Very useful when dropping change/phone/BT HEadset and what not.
I also tried driving with the lights on() but its WAY too distracting!!!

In other news, got the pads changed from outside ford.
Went and bought KBX, SPECIFICALLY for fiesta.
Turned out to be the wrong ones.
HOW???
I thought KBX was a good brand(???)
The ones before these, the "SUpergrip" ones were much better.
These just making clunks as if they were loose.
Diagnosis came through when i realised the sound is gone when i go over bumps while on the brakes.
Ford has changed em, but have also told me that discs will need changing in about 5-10k kms.
ok...

Looks cool indeed! Can you post a pic with the ICE off?

How much did you pay for it, and where did you fix the switch for it?

Also please post the ebay link for it.
