Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() So, finally hit the 1Lac mark on the Agra expressway. Next week, the car goes for a full rub-a-dub-dub... ![]() I went off to agra over a weekend, and I knew this was a high speed highway, so i changed the oil, filter, cleaned the filter, balanced tyres etc. Now, in all the time I have owned the car, there has been bad shuddering from between 110-120. I got the usual suspects checked out, and had plans to get the suspension overhauled finally at the 1Lac mark. But just for the heck of it, i roamed around in sector 16, noida, looking for the most expensive looking tyre store. I asked and asked, and finally zeroed in on a store which was offering alignment/balancing at 600 bucks. I looked at the machinery, and it was all mechanized. So, popped the car over, and sat down for a cup of coffee. some time later, the guy comes in and says, "your steering wobbles? and do you have offset to the left on the steering wheel when going straight?" And I fell to my knees with tears in my eyes, and gladness in my heart, and bowed to him, and said, "Prabhu!!!" Figuratively. ![]() He had a scan sheet, and it showed some minutes of alignment being out. Also, he knocked off all the weights that were installed by about 10 shops, and put in new ones. And then I couldnt wait. Happy to report, the wobbles is gone. and the car could easily hit about ,lets just say, 1.5 times more before I decided it was enough. I just had to know.I am not a fan of high speeds, except on tracks, but I just had to know. You know? In other news, the continental ecosport3 are fantastic boots. The projectors KILLED, absolutely DESTROYED the darkness and desolation of the Agra E-way. Starter motor was giving me slight trouble, so got that checked. ASC asked for 1 day, and about 4-5 k. FNG said 1 hour and 1400 rupees. Since it was a standalone part, and he couldnt mess anything else up, got it done, and he did a fantastic job.He did say, "will you keep following me?". told him, well, yeah.what else?". "sir, have some tea, na.".nope. Took out the starter, opened it up, located a sprocket which was slightly worn, changed it, and off.Nice. So, all in all, milestone achieved with a lot of smiles being put on my face. Last edited by mayankk : 24th January 2013 at 19:26. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() @Mayankk, Congrats on crossing the 1L magical figure on the odo. You have a way of writing man, must appreciate that. BTW could not understand by your statement that you went about looking for the most expensive tyre store in Noida and then the WA/WB costed 600 bucks which is inexpensive. ![]() |

My last tyre guy, at sham tyres, he charged about half of this, as well as other stores in palika. I didnt know this was cheap. (well, for a reason, then, aint it? ![]() 600 plus some odd amount for weights he put in.If its low, then ok, since he did do good work.

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, the good die young. No, nothing happened to the car. After the constant disappointment with Harpreet Ford, I shifted to NCR. All was well until one day I had the "we need to talk" call. They shut down, and have gone to VW. So I had to get my one lac service at Noida Ford. They kept the car for two days, which I thought was to be expected. Drove home and the next morning, the idle was quite erratic. So I came over today, and they said there's some oil leftover in the space where the plugs sit. One hour to get an SA, one hour sitting, and then I asked the adviser, who told me the cars in the shop. So I went out for a smoke an hour later and saw that the car is parked outside. Not even in the premises. So they've now started work after I created some noise. But hell, this is worse than Harpreet!! Now I think I'll try riddhi, or.. shudder..... Harpreet. Man, not only are they making a good car a problem to maintain, they're also making me seriously reconsider if the next one should be the Eco or not. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Flash Update. Blew the head gasket as the coupler to the fan conked out. The good part of this was I found a good mechanic, one who listens, and is reasonable in costs, and when the head opened, clean up of 1L km worth of deposits happened. And it was a LOT! And I received, as a gift, an XAV64BT, which I plonked in place of the AVH3200. Only differences being this one tunes all frequencies, and has bluetooth. So both are singing/dancing, this one just does it more. ![]() Got this through Snapdeal, for 21k, and installation was included free at carnation noida. Good deal, i feel. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() So the front left headlamp went a little "curious george" on me sometime back, and decided to inspect the rear of the DTC in front a bit too closely. As expected, a red-eye resulted. ![]() It was again a call to Raj the mechanic, and he managed to source refurbished headlamps for 3500 bucks a pair. Minor scuffs, and thankfully clear, unlike the stock ones which had turned yellowish. It took him about 2 months to get them. Why? Recall I had painted the shrouds black, ala, the 1.4 model? Well, he had been looking for the same, and had passed over some regular full chrome ones! Oh well. So, one saturday spent in replacing the headlamps, which basically meant a full projector install. Man, I just love these units I got from DX. Its a breeze to install them. No cutting, no fiddling, Just screw them in nicely and bit of loctite, and youre done. Also read up and experimented with 1. Soldering Iron 2. Uninsulated LED strip 3. Pieces of acrylic from an archies photo frame I used the hot air gun to shape the acrylic into the correct shape to sit around one quadrant of the low beam. Sanded it fully except for the rear where the LEDs were to be fixed. Mounted the LEDs with pieces of Mseal about 2 mm across, and for grip I marked a grove in the Acrylic. The LED strip was a metre long with nicely marked points where it could be cut, and you just have to solder on wires to get the proper length. Minimum was 3 LEDs. One instruction about sanding, though. If you plan to work with acrylic, sand it before you heat and curve it. Reasons oughta be clear. I actually was planning on getting some edge lighting going on, but there was hardly any space to do it. So now I have the leds inside the headlamps for the parking lamps, and the 2 low beams, and 4 FANTASTIC high beams. Good fun. hard work, but good fun. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Every time the car went for a wash, it came with a malfunctioning ballast. The front right ballast is placed bang in the path of water. This was my 3rd ballast. The last change around, there was major mismatch in the quality of the ballasts. One HID was giving out pure white, and one was yellow. So i thought, hell, lets just change it to regular halogens. Now, these are the bulbs, some proprietary format, and it not H-anything!! ![]() ![]() So I made a mold with mseal from the base, picked out the bulb from an H1 unit, and stuck it in the mold. Perfect fit!! Consistent beam, and the yellow is just perfect for visibility. Here are some pics in the garage, and in absolute pitch black darkness. Low beam: ![]() ![]() And this is the highbeam. All bulbs are yellow. So its basically 4 H1 bulbs, 2 of them in projectors. Killer!! ![]() Last edited by mayankk : 21st June 2013 at 17:49. |

| ![]() My Fiesta 1.6 sxi is due for its next service. It completes 7 year soon( but I want the service to be done early as it is monsoon time). As my experiences with Ford *SS is mixed, I am out here to find out if you know of any *SS for Ford in Bangalore, who will allow you to be next to the car when they go about changing the oil, fluids etc? I have lost faith in most of the *SS in Bangalore so far. Further, if there is no *SS ready for this, what are the other options? I have heard good things about Sejal motors. Any other recommendation? -tortoise |

![]() But I don't think there would be any authorised service centers who will allow you to accompany the car as such. Do a search for Ford Bangalore, maybe something will pop up.

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Shorty Update. I recently picked up a 2k5 Tucson and have been running it in for the past few months. I picked it up for the wife, so had to see that all was well before passing it on. The fiesta, meantime, was being used quite sporadically, since no-one else apart from me drives it. Thats mostly becasue she INVARIABLY breaks down when someone else takes it out. Got a mind of its own, she does. So anyhoo, The tucson is on duty at proper quarters now, and last week onwards, I shifted back to the old girl. Although the Tucson is a different beast, with tremendous torque, and the turbo, and stature, The second I slotted the fiesta at the tollgates into 1st, and pulled till 4k, I realized how much I missed. The toll road, and the barapullah road were taken in the top half of the rev ,and the smile, range. ![]() Still such a hoot!! I missed the flat corners, the rev range where you can hit the power peak, and still go on for another 2k revs. I suppose this felt even more drastic owing to the fact the change itself was so drastic, since the switch was not only in the ngine, but the body type as well. Welcome back. Now Im planning to go in for an FFE in this. I saw a brilliant exhaust on wheeler dealers, a vortex type. Lets see if i can get it in cheap. Otherwise, Automech delhi have quoted 14k(Full system). Is that alright? |
