Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

Thanks Krish - that helps. My take on the Prestige is - it is the equivalent of the E90 Corporate edition I own now , with about 4 lacs increase over the last 4 years. It did not seem to be as involving as the older E90 based on one test drive but still the best compromise choice for me, all things considered. (confirmation bias :-) )

Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

Ravish I agree the new Prestige is like the corp edition but you may enjoy the I drive, hid headlamps and a few bobs n bits which are add ons vs the more base Corp edition! There is a great deal on X1,s as well and you could get a fully loaded X1 (though 3014 production ) with panoramic sunroof etc for similar money. Only issue is the new model launch is around the corner.
The F30 will not be as engaging as the e90 but it's a more comfy car and slightly better rounded imho. Also most dealers have large number of Sport editions 2014 cars in stock so you may also try for a good deal there.
Good luck !

I am relieved and happy to report that after tweaking the tyre pressures above and below recommended numbers and settling on 245 kPa front and 250 kPa rear , the F30 is not making me miss the E90 anymore. On the E90 210 to 220 at the front and 260 at the rear, used to be optimal for steering and handling.

The steering now feels well weighted, as good as , if not better than the E90 (2011 EPS version) now. I however always drive in sport mode though.

It seems counter intuitive alright - increasing the pressure but I gather from some posts that increasing pressure on run-flats increases effective sidewall stiffness and therefore improves things on steering and handling.

It certainly does not feel dull any more - I was a bit worried for the first few days by the steering even in sport mode. I may be more susceptible to punctures but that is simpler problem than a dull BMW

+1 , Non-quattro will never be better than the rear wheel drive 3-series nor the C-class. If you go for an A4 , only the quattro model is worth it , but then again it's priced way too high .

Can we have a comparison between F30 and 2015 facelifted Q3 with quattro? Does the 320d still hold its edge in terms of driving pleasure when compared to Q3 armed with quattro + DSG + 175bhp ?

In terms of Sheer Driving Pleasure, there is no comparison. The 3 is far better.

Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

akshay, slightly OT question: Is it possible to get a full size spare alloy wheel from BMW instead of the space saver? I hope full sized alloy doesn't eat up entire boot space.

If you pay for it they will provide it. But it certainly will eat up quite a bit of the boot space. Not needed IMO.

Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

Guys! need to help out my friend here in Gurgaon.

He wants to buy a new Audi A4 or a BMW 320d Luxury line. C- class was considered but is expensive at 44 lacs on road.

Audi a4 is offered at 36 (on road) while the 3 series is at about 40 lacs on road.

He is also being offered the old Audi A6 at 43 lacs on road price as the new model is already out.

His budget is around 40 lacs & not willing to budge. I personally have suggested him either to wait for new A4 or buy the C-class.

He is not too interested in the 3-series as his office colleague has bought one and it turned out to be a lemon, spending most of its time in the work shop.

Any pointers would really help him as he is now really confused and confusing me as well.

Thanks

- Rishi

Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

His best bet is an A6 , as he is atleast getting better discounts. he may be able to negotiate and bring the price down further. The discounts on A4 are still a little lower as newer model isnt launched in India.

The second best option is 320D if he does not want A6.

Re: BMW 320d (F30) vs Audi A4

BMW India launches 360o program for the 3,5 and the X3. This offers "assured buyback value after a tenure" which is a bonus on top of already attractive BSI+Secure. With plans like this buyer can look to petrol engines without worrying about diesel's superior resale value. Smart move by BMW.

Quote:
The BMW 3 Series, the BMW 5 Series and the BMW X3 are available now with the new BMW 360º Program in India. The BMW 360º Program enables prospects to select the BMW model of their choice, the tenure of financial contract and the per annum mileage criterion. Besides this, an assured buyback ensuring low down payment, affordable monthly instalments, complimentary service and maintenance for 3 years can be availed. This provides the freedom to upgrade, retain or return the vehicle at the end of the tenure.

The BMW 360º Program is exclusively available at the select BMW dealerships across the country – Delhi (Deutsche Motoren), Mumbai (Infinity Cars and Navnit Motors), Chennai (KUN Exclusive), Hyderabad (KUN Exclusive), Bangalore (Navnit Motors), Gurgaon (Bird Automotive), Ahmedabad (Parsoli Motors), Jaipur (Sanghi Classic), Raipur ( Munich Motors) and Nagpur ( Munich Motors).

Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “A customer’s relationship with us is defined not by purchase alone but by the relations that we are able to maintain after that. Today BMW offers the most desirable portfolio of models across various segments and commands an attractive residual value. With BMW 360º program, our cars are future proof for customers by giving them an assured buyback value. The program is specifically designed to provide exceptional flexibility, affordability and complete peace of mind to our discerning customers.

There is a low mileage 328i that I came across. It is a 2012 (last quarter) registration. I know BMW's have these nomenclature f30, f10, lci etc.

My question is, what model name would this 2012 piece most likely be? And would it be a too outdated in terms of technical features around comfort and ride/handling?
