wanted an Alfa Romeo 156, bought an Eclipse now onto a Honda Accord

I am now located in Dubai and seriously hunting for a pre owned car. What do you guys have to say on an Alfa Romeo 156 2.0,Metallic Grey, 2002, 99000km. asking 16000 AED x 12.39 = 198240INR. The car looks amazing and is owned by a lady.Shall I go for it?? Need quick suggestions.Thx a ton.

That's a real good price but the 156 like most other Alfa's has been known to be a delicate car. Since the one you are looking at has already done a lot of mileage I would advise you to stay away from it for long-term benefits and look at other options.

Alfa Romeo service also has not been appreciated globally due to their poor quality.

That Alfa is roughly going for the price of a Palio in India.Alfa Romeos like all Fiats are great driver's cars and they look much much better than their German counterparts. These cars have character.I think its a good price (in Indian context),even if the engine has done 99000 kms.Just check for the car's history and service records and availability of spares.Nice choice by the way

Engines are strong, it is the electrics that are suspenct. If it is a selespeed then run for your life. Usually, car has teething problems with would have been sorted by now

Son - let me advice you. DONT make the mistake I made.

I bought a brand new Alfa (yes, the 156) as soon as I landed in Dubai and have regretted my decision ever since.

The engine develops leaks. The tiptronic transmission (Selespeed) goes bonkers every now and then - I was stuck without gears on the highway on three occassions and had to pay through my nose for the tow back. The brakes wore out faster than my son's shoes. The electricals are as dependable as the Nigerian Electric Power Authority.

It was fun to drive - when you were able to drive it around. The engine sounds great when its on a song, but this is usually followed by a visit to the garage that spoils the fun.

Why do you think a 2002 Alfa that sold then for about 85k is now on the market for 16k when a Camry that cost 65 K would sell for about 45k after the same timeframe?

NOBODY WANTS IT. Thats why it is so cheap. The lady probably bought it cheap herself - and you will find yourself in a similar predicament when you decide to sell it.

It was, BY FAR (nothing comes even close to it) the worst car ownership experience in my life.

If you want to buy a car, please call 6408540. I made the mistake - I hope you dont make it too.

sounds neat ..how much would you have to pay for a used 2005 brera ?Alfa is been rated 4* (used/new) on Top gear .After having read Steeroids comments am having second thoughts about beauty ..rather have a reliable car than an Italian car.

Mine, Sir Knight. You should be called RashidiaKnight now, since you work for Trading Enterprises.

PS: All that I mentioned happened in winter, when temperatures were between 15 and 20. I got rid of it before the summer as I had no intention of getting stuck with a hot car in hot weather.

well as steer pointed out I am no more searching for the Alfa's, but it was only the e46 325's (çause 330i's are way expensive) when I came acoss this 2000 model Mitsubishi Eclipse black done 50000Miles owned by a friend's friend asking 25k.The only confusion, he said its a 2.8 L V6, but to my knowledge there is no 2.8 for this particular model. The car looks awesome in the dark.
Steer whats your opinion on this??

Time for a treat, Anthony. Name the place - tried calling you before I left for India but it looks like the filipino receptionist at your office does not pass on messages.

Oh, i thought you're here...anyways I tried reaching you many a times before making the decision. However the car is a known one owned by a friend of mine.I am just with the process of Insurance, testing and registring the car in my name. Hoping the whole procedure would be over the coming week.
Whatsz your take on the car??
MAXBHP: Its not the spyder (convertible). Its the normal coupe car.
